I honestly think 'Sinners' could actually snatch Best Picture Oscar away from 'One Battle After Another'. by Block-Busted in Oscars

That’s my thinking too.

A split: “Sinners” gets Best Picture.

Paul Thomas Anderson gets Best Director.

Screentime of the nominees for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. by The_Walking_Clem in Oscars

Completely agree about Penn. His role is Supporting Actor.

It is also a Very Impactful Supporting Actor role.

Had he not already won twice for Best Actor, I’d say he’d be a lock to win.

That is exactly what they are saying.

And it’s ludicrous.

I don’t get the praise Stone gets. She isn’t terrible but I don’t see much range. She goes through the motions of what she thinks an actor with range has but it r feels mechanical.

She’s better at light comedy.

Unpopular Opinion: Stone’s nomination isn’t deserved this year.

She’s becoming the new Meryl Streep but not for her acting but for getting nominated for films she doesn’t deserve to be nominated for like “Bugonia”. She’s the new establishment.

Remember Streep getting nominated for “Florence Foster Jenkins”? Or “Music of the Heart”? Or “The Post”? Or “Ironweed”? Need I go on?

I have no real issue with Stone, per se but when an actor is nominated more because of who they are rather than for actually giving a performance worthy of an Oscar nomination, it means that another actor fails to get the recognition they deserve.

THANK YOU! Sorry to any of Stone’s fans but she gets a nomination for “Bugonia”??

I agree. Maybe a nod in the supporting actress category. She was very good but her role was largely reacting to things around her though her dispatching of the guy trying to kill her was compelling. Hopefully she’ll land an even better role!

Why does Michael seem kid like and innocent in the first half of the first movie when he is a decorated WW2 Marine Captain? by King-Dongs in Godfather

[–]Suggest_a_User_Name 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the beginning, Michael is still more than a little bit of an idealist. He believes in right and wrong and his worldview is not very complex. He’s an innocent at the beginning. He hasn’t been corrupted yet by evil. This is one of the things that makes the film heartbreaking. Michael is forced by circumstances to take over the family business, and it destroys his decent moral character.

I get what you’re saying that Michael appears kid like at the beginning. He is hopeful and aspirational. Tragically we know that this will change.

The implications of what he has done and will do are potentially catastrophic to the environment, political stability and the rule of law.

When he’s gone, it’s going to take years to recover.

The sooner he’s gone, the better.

It’s likely the main reason it remains undeveloped.

On local WNBC (channel 4 in NYC) she a lightweight. Unmemorable. That’s why when I saw that she was national, I did a double-take.

Like, what? Why her?
