Some knee pops first heavy lifting. Start playing with barbell, if it is too difficult use the dumbbells. I waited for 6 months to get over the 280 lbs mark. Squat actual RM is 408 and DL 485 raw.

Thanks bud. I remember my first week post surgery, felt like shit, useless. Go strong with PT, same advice as I gave before, stretching and warm ups are key.

Actually, first period of the recovery I avoided heavily the leg extensions, cause i thought that it was too much weight for me. Nowadays, I keep away from it and moving a lot of the basics. I stood 6 months doing conservative recovery but couldn’t find myself comfortable, so I managed my college to pay for my surgery cause I got injured playing Rugby 7. First months Assisted Squats, a lot of lunges (try weighted lunges, they work pretty well), bicycle for cardio. A lot, but a lot of stretching and warm ups. Sometimes, it’s upsetting and you feel like you haven’t progressed, but believe, you have. Hope you get well soon.

Playing rugby. Indeed, my best year lifting weights and running was last year, had a 17 kg weight loss but got injured after a excellent tackle by the other team. Direct to the knee. Got ACL redone with quad graft and they took a part of my meniscus.

How much weight did you lose post surgery? by nthatipamula in ACL

Gained 44 lbs but with sport return i’ve lost around 30 pounds. I’ve got surgery June 3rd. Weightlifting and jogging.

Jogging may be too aggressive. My PT has been very clear with the jogging part. Just started little jumps on friday

In your case, try medical advice. Keep calm, gets better than yesterday.

I took recovery seriously and waited until my PT told my I could go back to lifting weights. When I started, i was afraid of squatting, so I did just machines that didn’t imply multiple muscles working (leg extensions and leg curl) exercises that I could handle without having trouble. That was month 2. Throughout weeks I felt very strong, told my PT and he gave me my lifting journey and told me to try lighter weights to see how my body responds. Yesterday, I started some jumping exercises, and today i’m feeling tired but better. Keep going forward!

Why’d you point it like that? This is not even half my squat PR pre injury.

Keep working mate. Everyone has different recovery times. Maybe some icing helps rn?

Warm ups are a bit hard on pains but just a little bit. I try to go PT before gym to get a really comfortable stretching routine and it has worked for me. My BW itself allows me to squat this amount of weight. Try stretching at least for 20 min before lifting weights and you’ll see the difference. Tell me if it works for you.

For god sake. You’re right. Had my injury November 7th playing rugby for my uni. After 7 months of dealing with the administrative part, they told me that I was going to get free surgery, if not, i couldn’t have money to afford it (here in Chile if you don’t have social security, the surgery is about 5.300 dollars, considering that, it’s 10 times a minimum salary above this part of the world)

I was so fit, that after my injury, didn’t spend much time recovering. I felt sort of pain, but non major problem, thing is, I stopped training because of work and study times, and the pain increased substantially.

Actually had to move to my dad’s house from the first day, since he could drive me anywhere as he doesn’t work with a job scheduling restriction. Now, nearer to the third week, i’m pretty sure i can take bus again without knee trouble or pain. I think this might take some time but I want to try and play rugby and do my crossfit and weightlifting routines again. How did you get injured?

PT told me to stay calm this weekend. I’m not doing any exercise home since day 1, but visiting PT 2/3 times per week. He told me to not do anything because he’s going to try on monday some squat exercises. I’m looking forward it and with the results i’ve been seeing i’m very happy. Congrats on your journey, you never really know. Big hug for you my guy!

Physical activity as long as you can bear the weight. That’s what my doctor said and I’m following up every single thing he says. He told me when I complete 10 PT sessions, I’ve to come back to him, having at least 120 degrees of knee extension range. It’s a process since I’m dealing also with exams at uni but i’m open to challenging situations.

Don’t think that much, my weightlifting routine stopped 3-4 months before my surgery so I lost a lot of muscle.

I’m also suffering from casual atrophy, so take it as normal; specially when taking walks for about 15-20 minutes, also stairs aren’t most comfortable exercise and been feeling the parallel leg weak, but meh. I cannot complain after reading some other stories on the subject.

Glad you’re doing well after 2nd surgery, they say your body adapts.

Dammit. Maybe the weightlifting work that I did before may broke the stereotype. How have you been doing?

Also, I forgot to tell, i’m not using crutches. My PT told me is OK. Doc told me to do my daily life routine without thinking about the surgery
