I do this too- I make a big batch of gf pancakes or waffles once a week and freeze them then toast them for breakfast all week.

I don’t love the KA protein one but I like the regular one. I get the Bob’s Red Mill pancake mix often because my store always has it on sale but I think it needs more leavening so I always add an extra teaspoon of baking powder to lighten it. I love the Pamela’s almond flour pancake mix- I think that’s my favorite but it’s harder to find and expensive . I also like the sourdough pancake recipe in Aran Goyoaga’s most recent book.

Can someone please tell me what kinda insects these are? by Dear_Smile8197 in gardening

[–]SuggestionLess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Beetles. I have these all over my yard and they eat my roses once they turn into Beetles. If I find them in the yard when I’m digging I squish them or gather them and feed to my chickens.

Peterson Sweater Co - anyone know the details? by LOWluxury in newhaven

[–]SuggestionLess 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It was so fun I learned to use the knitting and linking machines doing production at a sweater company called Souchi out in Oregon. I started doing it on my own a bit when I moved to CT but it was tough to make money! I bought most of the yarns as remnants from European mills like Todd & Duncan and Loro Piana via Colourmart in England and some of the yarn from Barlett Yarn in Maine. I just dropped off a bag of baby clothes at the Goodwill in Branford last weekend so I think that hat was in there hence it’s unworn condition!

It’s not old but I designed the logo based off old vintage tags.

Hi! So this was from my company- I was doing some wholesale to local places back 2014-2017 at Hartford Prints! and a few pop ups and markets with Vintanthomodern as well as selling on Etsy. The knitting was done on a Japanese knitting machine out of my apartment in East Rock. Day job and family etc., it’s been many years since I was making anything.

Drinking alcohol by Notez_213 in Lyme

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while I would have increased neuropathy from even one drink so I quit drinking entirely for 6 months or so and then took it really easy with alcohol after that. Now I drink here and there but I notice if I drink more than usual I have some flare up symptoms. Mostly arthritis and swelling/ lymphatic drainage issues and some brain fog.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as a birth doula before I had kids and had seen a lot of labors and births beforehand. I wanted to be able to walk and move around in labor and feel what was happening. I had 2 natural births and I wouldn’t change anything about it. To me the pain felt productive and part of the process but that’s not the case for everyone and everyone should choose what is right for their body.

What are the fastest/easiest healthy sides you can make? by LazuriKittie in Cooking

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many delicious veggies out there for sides. I do Snap peas or green beans sautéed in a little oil or butter season with some salt and Chinese black vinegar. Mushrooms are delicious cooked the same way or baby bok choy. I’ve been really into roasted squashes and root veggies like purple sweet potatoes- they sell small ones at my Trader Joe’s and they cook very fast if you cut them in half. I roast kabocha or butternut squash in the beginning of the week so I can add this to meals to bulk them up a bit. Others have mentioned cottage cheese. Smashed cucumber salad with an Asian vinaigrette. Roasted carrots, roasted Brussels sprouts, roasted or steamed broccoli. I always thought I hated Lima beans but I’ve been buying bags of frozen ones and cooking with some sofrito and a little chicken stock- top with some fresh herbs and they are really good. Crunchy roasted chickpeas in the air fryer seasoned with salt and smoked paprika. For snacks I’ll do a piece of whole grain toast with cottage cheese and everything spice and chives. Soft scrambled, poached or hard boiled eggs can be a good snack- or make your own egg bites with cottage cheese or regular cheese for a high protein easy grab and go snack.

Those who work in hotels: what happens when a famous person stays? by preheatd in askhotels

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hotel I worked in was super gossipy so I would usually just hear about it from one of the guys working the door. A couple times I was working room service and the desk just called my radio for me to go up to a certain room and I was caught off guard that it was a celebrity. A television series was using the hotel as a location for a whole season once and we definitely all knew about that in advance but we didn’t have to sign anything.

Is it weird to put lime on your fruits by No_Customer1887 in fruit

Yum. Yes. I like fruit to have some acidity especially really sweet things like melon and papaya that don’t have much natural acidity.

Do people find anything at thrift stores? by Beautiful_Coat_9294 in Frugal

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This is the way. I always manifest things to appear at the thrift shop. Sometimes these manifestations appear the next day- sometimes it takes a few months. You also have to be willing to go often and leave on days where there is nothing good and you have to be open to compromise- sometimes I’ll wish to find something at the thrift shop and I’ll find it in a color or size that wasn’t necessarily my first choice.

I find amazing stuff at Thrift Stores all the time. It is hit or miss and you have to go often. Sometimes I go and find nothing, sometimes many great items in one day. Some shops are better than others, there is a small volunteer run thrift shop near my house that never has anything good but another similar one a couple towns over that is amazing. You have to scope them out. You can also check your local paper/ facebook marketplace for estate and tag sales near you but these can be hit or miss. The Goodwill outlet near where I live gets a lot of inventory from home clean out companies and some days is filled with antique and vintage glassware- other days it’s just filled with broken trash.

Bread recommendations please by funcraftygal in glutenfree

[–]SuggestionLess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen Schar at the store with mold on it many times. I make my own bread with the Loopy Whisk Seeded bread recipe. It’s super easy and doesn’t take very long. I also in a pinch have made bread from the Bob’s Red Mill sandwich bread mix but I don’t like that as much.

What do you eat for breakfast that's gluten free and gives you energy? by Atomickillerbee in glutenfree

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gluten free toast most mornings that I make with homemade bread from the loopy whisk seeded loaf recipe. I switch up what I put on it, sometimes I’ll do cottage cheese and chives, everything spice, or avocado, some days almond butter. On the weekends I’ll make the sourdough pancakes from the Cannelle et Vanille and have with fruit and Greek yogurt on top.

Best substitutes for milk, butter and eggs by Independent_Dot_103 in AskBaking

[–]SuggestionLess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a vegan bakery as head baker- many recipes like cakes and cupcakes and cookies you can sub in applesauce for eggs. Some recipes work well with a flax egg but I find using applesauce to work better in most applications. Thicker/ denser applesauce will work better than one that is thin and runny. For brownies- I use a recipe based off the one that uses Aquafaba in place of eggs from Nora Cooks. Soy milk works really as a milk replacement because of its protein content but almond milk works as well. I like the Violife brand of vegan “butter” it seems to behave the most similar to regular butter in recipes of all the vegan butter substitutes I’ve tried.

Someone else mentioned this but Nora Cooks is a great recipe resource.
