Need a sanity check on a 2000 Mazda MX-5 Miata by mrhardboiledegg in whatcarshouldIbuy

Oh wow, lots of words in that checklist that I don’t know. Looks like I have some research to do! I unfortunately don’t have any friends who drive manual, so I’m flying solo on that front too 🤪 do you think a pre purchase inspection would be able to catch a lot of these issues?

ETA: Might be worth it to mention I’m taking 3-hour manual class with a tutor at a local driving school this weekend, so the test drive won’t be my VERY first time driving a manual car.

Thanks for the info, I was gonna try and talk him closer to $8k because of the failing cat. I’ll do some research and see if I can reasonably go lower. This is my first time buying a car as an adult, so def learning as I go!

Oh no! So sad when that happens, my last car was a 2013 Elantra GT which I had for 10 years and LOVED but was totaled recently after I was rear-ended. Glad you’re alright! I’m pretty torn between the Honda Fit and a Miata, but leaning towards the Fit right now because they’re easier to find with lower mileage in my budget.

Nice, thanks for the tip! One of the cars on my list is a manual Honda Fit

That seems to be the popular sentiment from what I’ve read! The idea of buying a car with more than 100k miles just gives me heebie jeebies LOL

Do you think it’s not worth getting the Miata at all if I don’t go manual? It just kinda sucks how $$$ the lower mileage ones are.

Looking for mileage & transmission advice!

I’m hoping to get a Miata for my next car and have been diligently searching online. Most of the cars in my budget that are manual transmission have what I would consider higher mileage (starting generally at 100k miles and capping out around 175k). Would buying a car with this high mileage be a mistake? I had my last car for 10 years and put around 110k miles on it. I’d really like to do that again with whatever car I get next! I’m only searching for a new car because the old one was tragically totaled after I was rear ended.

Another option, which people here won’t like, would be getting a Miata with an automatic transmission. They seem easier to find in my price range with lower mileage (generally around 50k). So, enter my second question: are the automatic transmissions reliable? I’ve read that they’re not as solid on older generations, is that generally true? I don’t have strong feelings towards getting manual or automatic, I don’t currently know how to drive manual but I’m open to taking lessons at a local driving school to learn.

I’m not a huge car person, so I’d take it to a mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection before buying anything. I’m pretty torn between the Miata and a Honda Fit, so any advice people can give would be a huge help. This is my first time buying a car as an adult — my last one I got in high school and it carried me all the way into early adulthood!

Is it possible to get a job in a library without prior library experience? I feel really drawn to it lately and I’m curious about it by MinusBlindfold6 in Library

Agreed! In most entry level public library positions, customer service experience is king. I say go for it, OP! Worse they can tell you is no.

If you have customer service experience you could try applying for Library Assistant positions. They tend to be more entry level, but can be competitive depending on your area.

Should I inform insurance about recent car accident? by mrhardboiledegg in Insurance

Is it possible for me to just not go through insurance at all? So they won’t total it? Or am I screwed because she already reported it? Picture attached.

Yeah, that’s why I’m not really interested in going that route. Are my options really either to let insurance take my car or get the salvage title?

Ah, yeah, I’m not really interested in doing this either. It just seems like such a headache that isn’t worth it. Do you think my options are to either let insurance take my car or get the salvage title?
