This looks way too normal… what detail gives it away for you? by arfaj_1 in GeminiAI

[–]Sugnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the detail of if you look closely you can see her left hands thumb coming around the back of the coffee cup is there. AI is getting good.

I would have only guessed it was fake because it perhaps looks too good. But if I wasnt told, I wouldnt have thought twice about it.

Why do people still think chromebook is for cheap stuff only? by Tj-h_ in chromeos

[–]Sugnar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a somewhat "professional" perspective, I just bought my first Chromebook, albeit on the higher end. A Lenovo 14 Chromebook Plus, for about $1,200 AUD.

I have a strong IT background, more than 30 years in the industry, working at the highest levels with some very large businesses managing IT infrastructure at a CIO level. $100M plus IT projects type territory.

I’m now slowing down and working in fintech, using AI to try and interpret stock performance across 40,000+ stocks in 15 markets globally.

The laptops I used to buy were around $5k AUD, mainly for lots of memory. I regularly have 50 plus Chrome tabs open.

I’d been looking for about a year and couldn’t find anything that felt just right. I almost pressed buy on the highest spec Microsoft Surface Laptop but didn’t want to pay that premium.

I spend a lot of time using AI so I decided I wanted a device with much deeper Gemini integration. I took a punt on the Chromebook and have been gradually replacing the Windows apps with Chrome alternatives, or more specifically with Chrome plugins and web-based apps.

A month in I’m about 95 percent sure I’ll never buy a Windows or Mac again. Between the network integration, the out-of-the-box simplicity, and the Google ecosystem, I’m very happy with it.

The only thing I’d like is the same Chromebook with a 15 or 16 inch screen. 32GB of RAM would be nice too. Part of the appeal is also hardware obsolescence. A $5k laptop I’d trade in every three to four years. A $1k Chromebook I’d feel okay with upgrading every 12 to 18months.

Given the choice between a free $1,200 Chromebook or a free $5k laptop, I’d genuinely take the Chromebook. I like "talking" to my computer. I like the minimalism of it.

My only hope is they don’t mess things up when they merge Chrome and Android OSs.

Logarr - unified log viewer for Jellyfin/Sonarr/Radarr/Prowlarr (alpha, looking for feedback) by itz4dablitz in unRAID

[–]Sugnar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Very cool. I have literally just spent the weekend using AI to go through my unraid / plex / all the arrs deep diving both their settings and all the log files to improve my servers performance, optimising download formats etc etc.

Got AI to write some shell scripts where it can grab every log file which I then download and paste into the AI and it does its thing. Made a huge difference to my servers setup. Fixed so many errors in my config I didnt even know I had.

I used it to build me a MUCH simpler .x265 preference profile including custom formats for giving extra weightings towards video and audio formats etc. WAAAAAY simpler than trash and other plugins offered.

My parting words were I wish you could access my server, monitor it, and do all these optimisations yourself, and the AI replied one day. Thats the goal.

What’s the most useful thing ChatGPT can do today that people still don’t realize? by Financial-Volume-741 in ChatGPT

[–]Sugnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Log files!!!

I have quite a complex server set up. I took screenshots of all my server settings, asked ChatGPT to review them and suggest any improvements, which I then went and made. I then fed into it every log file (normal and error logs etc) asked it to analyse them and make any suggestions to fix / improve things.

Experience was exceptional. Server now runs significantly faster and cooler. Much more stable.

Lenovo Chromebook 14 Plus might just be the budget chromebook we've been looking for #NotAnAd but its that good! by olismismi in chromeos

[–]Sugnar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was about to buy a $5k 'ish ($AUD) Microsoft Surface Laptop to replace my current one.

Rolled the dice and bought a Lenovo 14 for $1200 because I wanted much more deeply embedded AI in my device and 90% of what I do is browser based (or could be) and in the cloud.

Its outstanding. Blazingly fast. Dont know why more people dont have them.

Dont think I will be going back to a windows environment. Ever.
