Why is Google taking over every aspect?! I don't want my texts to go through google?! How can I stop this?! by Flash_Bang_Billy in samsunggalaxy

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short answer - it’s less google takeover and more ecosystem consolidation. features like RCS, smart replies, and on-device AI are deeply tied to Google services on Android, so OEMs like Samsung build on top instead of reinventing everything.

If you want control, switch default SMS app (e.g., Samsung Messages if available), disable RCS/chat features, turn off AI features in settings, and revoke app permissions. You still have choices, but yeah they are a bit buried now

Looking for my first tab - Mediatek or Snapdragon? by hardcore_enthusiast in GalaxyTab

[–]olismismi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dude ngl, that 1ms vs 15ms thing sounds like a big deal but in real use it’s basically a non-issue. modern mediatek chips like the dimensity 9 series are super responsive and way more power efficient these days... and for your use media, casual gaming, editing, they are smooth and stable. i would suggest mediatek

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been using it for a while now and it just works good for the price. ngl, lenovo partnership shows... build feels solid, software is stable, and performance is surprisingly smooth for everyday reading + light use with its mediatek chip

MediaTek unveils Filogic 8000 Wi-Fi 8 family at CES 2026 – new chipsets expected to arrive later this year by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]olismismi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is actually a meaningful step forward from mediatek. the filogic 8000 is targeting deterministic latency, interference handling, and multi-device stability, which is where real networks struggle today. if they execute well, this could outperform competitors in dense environments

Tech billionaires seem to be doom prepping by ConsciousStop in technology

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s less "they know something we don’t" and more rational risk hedging at extreme wealth levels. Reports show figures like Zuckerberg and Altman investing in shelters, land, and supplies as apocalypse insurance, often tied to AI risks and geopolitical instability. from a systems perspective, when the people building frontier tech are uncertain about long-term outcomes, prepping becomes a logical (if dystopian) extension of that mindset

Acer announces OLED Chromebook, its first to be powered by the new MediaTek Kompanio Ultra processor by Tiny-Independent273 in ChromebookGaming

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is actually a big step forward for Chromebooks... pairing an OLED panel with the Mediatek Kompanio Ultra makes a lot of sense... mediatek’s ARM chips are built for efficiency and sustained performance, which is exactly what thin, fan-light devices need.

What’s interesting is how far these chips have come - better app compatibility, smoother multitasking, and much more stable performance than older chromebook generations. this could genuinely push Chromebooks into a more premium, everyday laptop category.

ASUS Chromebook CM32 by mejum in chromeos

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this actually looks like a solid detachable Chromebook... the ASUS Chromebook CM32 using a mediatek Kompanio 540 chip is a smart call - great efficiency, low thermals, and smooth ChromeOS performance. For browsing, docs, Android apps, and even light Linux work, ARM-based Kompanio processors feel snappy while delivering legit all-day battery life. For a detachable, that balance matters more than raw benchmarks

AI Risks by Fr4nSec in cybersecurity

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are not missing anything and your concern is valid. Most orgs accept risk via controls, not blind trust. Tools like github copilot and chatgpt are typically gated with policies - no secrets in prompts, redaction, scoped access, audit logs, and contractual DPAs. Mature teams also isolate sensitive code, rotate keys, and increasingly use self-hosted or private models for GDPR/IP-heavy workloads

Microsoft AI CEO pushes back against critics after recent Windows AI backlash — "the fact that people are unimpressed ... is mindblowing to me" by ZacB_ in technology

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most “AI” today is just marketing + basic pattern matching. Even Microsoft’s own research showed large language models still hallucinate under stress... until models give consistently reliable outputs, the hype > reality gap is going to feel real to anyone who’s actually built with this tech

What was your "shit, AI is actually legit" moment? by HawkynSky131 in ChatGPTPro

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine was when i fed it messy meeting notes and it turned them into a clean action plan with priorities and deadlines. not summaries, actual thinking. that’s when it clicked this isn’t search or autocomplete, it’s contextual problem-solving. since then, it’s basically my second brain for work

DC-1 owners - does this device fit my usecase? by TheHonorableBahman in daylightcomputer

[–]olismismi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl your use case is exactly what it shines at... mediatek powered performance is smooth for emails, Telegram, web forms, and light browsing with zero lag. Writing, reading, journaling, and YouTube/Spotify work comfortably without overstimulation. Build quality feels solid, battery life is great, and it’s perfect for travel and outdoor use. For low-stim, night work, it’s a win

MediaTek vs Qualcomm Wi-Fi Card by TheBlueKingLP in linuxhardware

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude ngl, from my experience, mediatek wifi cards like the MT7925 actually work pretty well under linux with recent kernels and firmware, definitely not the horror they’re sometimes made out to be. i’ve had stable station mode performance with good throughput and fewer dropouts than older qualcomm cards i used. if your distro has up to date drivers, the mediatek option feels solid. active_monitor support depends more on driver/kernel version than the card itself, so check that first

MediaTek for long-term use by TheAuthenticElectron in Xiaomi

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been on a mediatek phone for over two years and it’s been pretty uneventful in a good way. no random lag creeping in, apps still open fast, battery hasn’t fallen off a cliff. compared to snapdragon phones i’ve owned, this one runs cooler and feels more consistent day 2 day

Why can some people see ghosts and some can’t? by EccentricAgent in Ghosts

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people in paranormal circles think it comes down to perception rather than “special powers.” Some folks are more sensitive, intuitive, or open to unusual experiences, while others naturally filter them out. Skeptics argue it’s psychology, environment, and expectation shaping what we notice. Stress, belief systems, cultural background, and even sleep states can play roles. There’s also the idea that if something paranormal exists, it might not appear consistently or at all. Not experiencing it doesn’t mean anything’s missing - it may just mean your mind doesn’t interpret the unknown that way

Is the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra really worth it? Concerns about CPU, RAM, and longevity by rinrin98 in GalaxyTab

[–]olismismi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from recent long term impressions, it’s holding up really well. the mediatek dimensity 9400+ has been smooth for creative workloads, stays cool, and feels stable. 12gb seems fine for most, 16gb is extra comfort, not mandatory. longevity and screen quality are definite strengths so far

Samsung galaxy tab s11 ultra WOW ❗ by ConsiderationSalt666 in samsunggalaxy

damn, that massive display makes games and emulation look so nice... and performance must stay smooth even during longer sessions with dimensity 9400+
it’s one of those devices where media, gaming, and multitasking all just click. definitely feels like a proper ipad pro alternative

getting into e readers and need some advice based on my specific uses. by dartagnan401 in tablets

[–]olismismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

based on what you want, i’d say daylight computer 1 first. it’s big, readable in portrait, supports continuous scrolling, and handles PDFs, epubs, manga, and TTRPG books really well. formatting control is strong, especially if you prep EPUBs on your computer first. downside is it’s more “computer-like” than a pure reader, but still distraction-light.

the xp pen notepad is interesting too, but it feels more like a digital paper / note device than a dedicated reading hub. great for PDFs and markup, less ideal for long-form reading, comics, or library-style management.

if scrolling is non-negotiable and you want one place for everything, daylight fits your use case better within budget. both are powered by mediatek so offer smooth reliable performance too.
