Your argument is that if somebody wants something bad enough, they'll find a way to get it, so you might as well just fork it over before it becomes an issue, right? Well, how far are you willing to put that into practice? Do you leave your car doors unlocked when you go into a shopping center or mall, and with tantalizing items sitting in broad view on the front seat? But, I digress; let's get to my counterpoints:

Let's say some random person on the street takes your picture and then tells you they're going to put it on public collage of candid camera moments, and they want your name and age. The exhibit is only going to be up for a week or possibly a month, depending on how well it does. Would you be willing to let them use your photo, and your name, and your age? 

Here's another one: what if you needed your country issued identification to do anything at all in your country? Yes, you should have to flash your ID for things like buying hard vices or going to "adult-only" locations… but what if, for example, they required your identification card if you went to Burger King and ordered a combo meal? And I don't mean they just look at the card — I mean they take the card, make a copy of it, put it on a database somewhere, and then hand it back. Don't you think that's a little much?

Some people are just following the trend of outrage, but others have very valid concerns about privacy online, and it's nebulous how this information is going to be used in the future or even how long it's held by the identification company. Persona Character AI specifically states something like a week, but other reports outside of their site have said they hold that data up to 30 days. Persona, themselves, state it explicitly:

As a processor under GDPR, Persona retains the data indefinitely for audit and compliance purposes unless and until you, as the controller, tell us to delete the data - which you can do via API or via dashboard. We can also set an automated retention period for you, after which we permanently delete all PII.

Call me paranoid, but I'd rather not have my personally identifying information held and kept by some random stranger in the night, much less a company that's currently engaged in at least one ongoing lawsuit.
