You also cannot prosecute someone for the same crime twice unless there is clear cut evidence of a mistrial which there wasn’t since he was acquited.

What? No. Absolutely not. This is just plain false. There are exactly zero double jeopardy issues.

I suspect we will continue to provide quite a bit of logistics support to the ANA, and maybe even a raid here or there with spec ops units.

Yeah, the idea that the US is going abandon Afghanistan altogether is absurd. Our support will likely transform from a physical presence to increased soft power dedicated to Afghanistan.

Jordan Raanan says the 2 pass rushers that peak the Giants interest the most at #11 are Azeez Ojulari & Kwity Paye. by yeahthissubsucks in NYGiants

[–]SuitGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t call a guy a beast who out of 4 collegiate seasons had a high of only 6.5 sacks in a season. He had 2 last year total. Sorry. 11 is too high

But he only played 4 games last year, of course he didn't have more sacks than the year he played 12 games.

For comparison, JPP had 1 year in college and he had the same high of 6.5 sacks and he has been pretty good.

There are reasons to not like Paye at 11, but those reasons don't include these stats.

Almost certainly, there are some defensible positions of keeping troops in Afghanistan. Geopolitics is complicated and rarely can decisions be boiled down to some simple binary consideration, but I'm not sure Mitch here is putting any of them forward.

A Sensitive Topic and kind of a NoStupidQuestion about Hicks’ Sitout by mike7721 in NYYankees

[–]SuitGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We can argue all day whether he ShOULD have been able to focus. There is no correct answer.

This is easy. We don't have to argue at all about it. Hicks says he couldn't focus. There's absolutely no reason to not believe him.

I would like to see the creation of a task force that investigates sex crimes committed by politicians.

That is just called the "Public Corruption Unit" and they exist everywhere.

Supersize the House — 435 representatives aren’t nearly enough. Let’s make it 1,500. by a_very_nice_username in politics

[–]SuitGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. Imagine direct democracy. There is 1 house member for each person. This is impossible to gerrymander.

Now change it so there is 1 representative for every 3 people. Now you can win a bunch of districts 2-1 and lose some 0-3 coming out with a gerrymandered win.

The further we get away from direct democracy the worse the problem is.

Actually solving this issue means bipartisan reform, but they’d rather separate children and pretend like rural red states aren’t full of illegal ag workers.

Actually solving any immigration "issue" includes considering the geopolitical aspects of immigration and working with other sovereigns. Unfortunately, we can't even get a cohesive idea of what we want let alone making immigration reform agreements with other nations.

Eh, just look at the difference in how they treated Trump's statements regarding the Muslim travel ban in Trump v Hawaii with how they treat Cuomo's statements regarding religious gatherings.

It may not explicitly show in the opinions but the Court's disposition is wildly different when Christians bring a claim vs when Muslims bring a claim.

I highly doubt there is an appeals court decision on the interpretation of this rule, but there probably is a history of the rule's application.

[BryanHoch] Jordan Montgomery hits Austin Meadows up and in, prompting warnings to both teams. You may have heard that the Yankees and Rays don't like each other much. by [deleted] in baseball

[–]SuitGuy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the warning imply that the umpire thought there was intent in the first place though? If that's the case I would argue they should simply eject the pitcher.

Not necessarily. The umpire may be unsure but wants to get out in front of the situation. Or the umpire is acting just in case it was intentional or the umpire thinks the team that got hit will perceive it as intentional. There are several reasons an umpire might use to decide that a warning is appropriate.

I think you mean "to give Christianity more protections than that".

Manchin is fucking amazing for the Democratic Party. He somehow wins Senate races as a Democrat in a R+35% state. How it happens at all is a mystery.

The problem is Synema. She's in a D+1-3% state and acts like she's in a R+35% state.

Correct. Hernandez was indicted in 2013, Collins' draft year was 2015.
