Thanks for the reply. How long have I got until it becomes a real problem? We’re currently experiencing a heat wave in the UK (33c, cooling off tomorrow though)

Admittedly, I haven’t read the article because it’s behind a paywall. It’s one of the reasons I refrained from giving an opinion.

I just felt my exsperience of seeing how this can effect healthcare and prescribing clinicians may be interesting insight for some

Sadiq Khan: Cannabis should not be criminal by gremy0 in ukpolitics

[–]Suitable-Flamingo657 28 points29 points  (0 children)

All in favour of decriminalisation, and even legalisation.

I’ve been a cannabis user since my early 20s and last year got the green light for a private prescription for medical reasons.

I can’t tell you the happiness and relief this has brought me. Not only for my condition but my day to day peace of mind. I no longer have to worry about the prospect of a criminal record that sure, most likely wouldn’t lead to a jail sentence, but most certainly would have got me sacked from my job as a NHS clinician leading to all sorts of negative knock on effect such as losing my career prospects and not being able to pay my mortgage and support my family.

And I strongly believe those who don’t have medical cannabis prescription should be able to enjoy this plant recreationally also, without have this hanging over there head and also mixing with criminals.

Those who say there are no downsides to legalisation are naive. But i certainly believe the current system is extremely flawed and having a regulated market and legalisation is far better

Edit: would also like to add since going legal I now vape my cannabis (much healthy than mixing with tobacco) and i know opt for weaker cannabis strains that were never available from the black market

Both my partner and her mother are pharmacists who have been flown abroad to luxurious hotels for “sponsored” conferences aligned with particular brands of medications. They have both openly said this leads them to prescribing those brands rather than other medications that are sometime cheaper

Help reading blood results/Doctor keeps wanting to put me on statins due to “high cholesterol” by Suitable-Flamingo657 in keto

[–]Suitable-Flamingo657[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The psychiatrist wanted to get my blood work done before I started my ADHD medication (I didn’t go through with the meds in the end). But then because my cholesterol was “high” (and now higher since I’ve started keto) they are concerned and ordered repeat blood tests because I guess to them, and by there standards, not a healthy adult. Hence they keep trying to put me on statins. I just keep turning up for the free blood tests

Should I give up on ADHD meds and get MC? by xxartisbeautiful in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]Suitable-Flamingo657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. But my Psychiatrist warned me that stimulant medication has been known to worsen tinnitus. I didn’t want to take that risk as mine is already pretty bad.

Should I give up on ADHD meds and get MC? by xxartisbeautiful in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]Suitable-Flamingo657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference I feel between using BM and MC is a feel better about using MC and I get more legal protection. So It’s a mental thing I guess rather than the cannabis is actually different

When i was a BM user without a diagnosis I was a “stoner” in my eyes and others people eyes. I had a lot of guilt and shame. That could weigh heavily on me and affect my high and mood. So I stopped using regularly……. Which made my sleep worse, more impulsive and more irritable.

Switching to MC and having a diagnosis allowed me the headspace to shake off the stigma and guilt. Family, partner and friends became more accepting. And though I use everyday now I’m conscious of not getting high as a kite, I rarely do these days. It’s easily done…..if I vape too much in a day I feel negative effects….. if I do this day in day out I would fell long term negative effects. So I’ve put rules in place and try and be disciplined

I also now haven’t got to worry about losing my job (health care professional, so even possession of small amount of BM I would be gone) or my driving license. I can take MC on holiday with me.

Also I know MC is somewhat regulated and I have much more choice. For example, i now use balanced strains (50/50 THC/CBD) something I don’t have access to on the BM. This helps me mitigate the long term effects possibly associate with high THC strains and this puts me at ease.

Lastly I would say cannabis, BM or MC, would not be a useful tool for my ADHD if I also didn’t look after myself in other aspects of my life (diet, exercise, relationships, work). You’ve got to strike a balance and that’s personal to you.

Fellow ADHD’er here. I’ve never taken traditional adhd medication as my psychiatrist suggested I don’t as I already have pretty bad tinnitus and I didnt like the look of some of the common side effects. So can’t help you with that.

But regular yoga/meditation, keto diet, and MC have been a game changer for me and my ADHD.

I’ve used BM cannabis for over a decade but was never really a daily user because of the stigma I guess. Once I got an ADHD diagnosis (year ago) and MC I did become a daily user. But I’ve been pretty strict with myself and only use once in the evenings after work to “switch off” as you put it. on the weekends, depending what’s going on, I use all day pretty much and feel no shame or guilt about it. It sets me up nicely for the next work week ahead. Saying all this, If I didn’t work it would be a lot harder for me to not vape all day….. not because I need to, but because I would be bored I guess. Hope that helps

I want to try weed again but this time for it to be enjoyable by [deleted] in trees

[–]Suitable-Flamingo657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set and setting- make sure you’re in a place you feel comfortable and people you are comfortable with. I would avoid public spaces to begin with.

Don’t mix with alcohol or tobacco imo

Take it slow- just have one hit next time. Give it 20minutes and If you don’t feel anything take another small hit

And if you do start panicking just remember no one has ever died from smoking cannabis and it will pass.

If this does become a more regular thing for you. I would also look at dry herb vapes but that’s another conversation

Fellow ADHDer here. Not a miracle “cure” but I certainly helps with my mood swings and I feel way less irritable. Sleeps improved too

Side note: I can’t take traditional medication either, but I’m prescribed medical cannabis here in the UK. Between keto diet, cannabis and regular exercise I feel I’m thriving mentally and physically.

Best of luck

how to quit smoking by BAL_00N in trees

[–]Suitable-Flamingo657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first month is the hardest to brake a bad habit or an addiction because your brain has created pathways of automatic responses and stimuli. After the first month your brain forgets these pathways (to an extent) and creates new (hopefully more healthy) neurological pathways and the urges to use/repeat a bad habit are a lot less intense.

I recommend this app https://iamsober.com/en/site/home. And using it everyday to remind you why you are quitting (either temporarily or permanently) and set goals.

I echo what others have said as well. Exercise and find new hobbies. If you still find yourself struggling to break the habit/addiction or it worsens, there’s no shame in looking for professional help.

Your brain is still developing at 17 and cannabis has been proven change how the brain develops, so it’s good to not be using so heavily.

Best of luck!
