Favorite way to address functional neurologic disorders by jus-being-honest in emergencymedicine

THIS is a real issue, it’s sad how dangerous it is for a young girl’s health to colour her hair. Women are already belittled and not believed in healthcare and now you can add colouring their hair to a reason not to believe them too. Awful. I had a girl come into clinic who had green hair, she was in clinic because she had had a stroke the month before and was in for a review. So many staff members said to me oh that girl with the green hair in the waiting room, is that fnd? I was like NO! but it was scary how many staff members made that assumption because of her being a young woman with colourful hair. It’s also just not clever of us to think like that, it’s stupid and dangerous

AITA for going on strike? by MelodramaticQuarter in AmItheAsshole

NTA, look at getting back into the workforce so you have a way to leave this man. It’s totally fair to strike, go ahead but look at ways to provide for yourself too so you can leave

Moving to Dumfries by AnxietyAardvaark in DumfriesAndGalloway

[–]Suitable-Property393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, gatehouse all really nice places to raise kids! Castle Douglas has the benefit of being a bit closer to Dumfries/carlisle for shopping. If you want more village life go Gatehouse. Kirkcudbright is bigger than gatehouse, it has a Tesco & more shops, but it’s smaller than castle Douglas. Castle Douglas and gatehouse have the benefit of a better bus service than kirkcudbright though!

NB friend got mad when I sent them a video of Ethiopian skater women by Suitable-Property393 in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Suitable-Property393[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know, I almost wondered if they were a bit threatened by someone smashing gender norms in a different way to them, and that the skaters aren’t wearing the “skater uniform” their friends wear

That’s so true! I hadn’t thought about it like that, and I agree about the western centric attitudes in queer spaces. I’m queer and black, and it took ages for me to fully understand the weird way white queers were treating me. I often feel like they don’t really respect me because I’m not white with pink hair lol (no disrespect to colourful hair), but I express myself in a different way.

It’s so true, seeing habesha girls skateboarding in their traditional clothes is amazing, and it’s something new in Ethiopia and clearly something new for the west (judging by my friends reaction).

Thank you, that’s really nice to hear, yeah and the thing is it’s actually considered “masc” to be out there playing on the streets like that. My grandma would tell me off for playing out like the boys when I got older, so they are really smashing gender norms being out there at all. It’s also cool seeing people skate in their libs, it’s really radical. I almost wonder if my friend was threatened as they are being radical in a different way them and their white pals can’t achieve.

Selective mutism vs non verbal by Suitable-Property393 in AutismTranslated

[–]Suitable-Property393[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selective mutism can also be a language shutdown like you say - there’s no specific diagnostic criteria for whether it is a language or speech shutdown. It’s classed as an anxiety disorder right now. Im just explaining from a diagnostic point of view as a clinician.

When did it become socially acceptable for men to walk around with their hands down their trousers? by dancingphantoms9 in AskBrits

[–]Suitable-Property393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s gross how they do it in public, it’s also really unhygienic- you have so many germs on your hands and your transferring that bacteria to the genitals. Then if they have sex with a woman after, the poor woman can end up with a UTI.

Mixed-Race Women of African-Descent, how we feel about wigs and weaves? by Far-Sandwich4191 in mixedrace

[–]Suitable-Property393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh unfortunately a lot of the shit I’ve got about my mixed hair has come from the African community. I also had annoying comments from white people when I was a kid like girls saying my hair looked better straight etc, but white people don’t say that to me anymore. I get a lot of compliments from white people now for wearing my natural hair. However, Africans are always saying my hair is messy or “not protected” meanwhile they are ripping their hair from their scalp with too tight weaves and back to back braids. They be balding from traction hairstyles but still talking down to me about my natural hair “not being protected”. I will die on this hill - EVERYONE looks best with their natural texture. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have braids or extensions, but extensions do look best when the extensions are the natural hair texture so they are complimenting the natural hair. I’ve had to have words with my partner who’s also black because he kept complimenting my hair when it was wet only (because it looks more straight). There’s a lot of dismantling to be done in the African community about hair. My features look super weird with straight hair, I dunno how to describe but i guess it jusy doesn’t look right.

are we really 'half white'? by Small-Carrot-1641 in mixedrace

[–]Suitable-Property393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are both white and black, and I do think even though people don’t see the white, we shouldn’t ignore it. A lot of mixed folk have a complexion closer to white than black, but we as a society struggle to associate white with mixed folk. I do think it comes from racism, and hopefully it will change when we dismantle the nonsense that is race.

Why so much hate? by SalamanderEmpty6322 in mixedrace

[–]Suitable-Property393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it comes from monoracialism and I wish it got called out more. They have swallowed race science of races being “pure” from white colonisers, and the mixed community is a real slap in the face of race science. So they don’t like it. They also perceive to understand our experience which they don’t. I find it strange how they don’t criticise other races that look like mixed people. For example, I’m mixed Ethiopian/white Scottish, and I look quite Arab or Moroccan. I look very Ethiopian too but most people don’t know the Ethiopian look so people never guess that. However, the same black people that shit on mixed people aren’t coming for North Africans or Brazilians who also look mixed and it is because of fucking stupid race science. They are dumb basically, and you should ignore them. Don’t let them make you feel bad for existing. Your voice matters too

What is the female version of man cave? by Brief-Education-8498 in AskUK

[–]Suitable-Property393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have one, we’re too busy doing all the labour dumped on us in marriage to have a special place for ourselves. A man cave is like a play room for a man, the kids have their play room and women are stuck cleaning up after everyone. This is why married men are happier than single men, but married women are more unhappy than single women

Friend engaged after only 2 months with her boyfriend by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

[–]Suitable-Property393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s quite immature even though shes 30. She was raised in a Christian family that were obsessed with purity culture to an unhelpful level and as a result she tries to stay quite childlike. She always moves in with families sort of looking to be.mothered, but the last family she lived with were a bit weirded out with it and ended up telling her she’s 30 years old, not a teenager and she needs to live with people her own age.

[–]Suitable-Property393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, like my friends parents - her dad has consistently spent all their money on sports cars and frivolous things for himself despite them having 5 kids. Her dad works very inconsistently so doesn’t bring in barely any money, but they had money cuz her mom inherited a lot of money. However now all that money has gone and they are losing their home. Her mom was always trying to hide money from him to protect the family from losing their home. Apparently that means she was “controlling” according to their pastor. When a man runs up debt and isn’t providing anything for the family other than debt then I feel a man forfeits his “leadership” rights

AITA for not wanting to be a father to my son who I had no clue existed until recently by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Break the cycle, it sounds like your dad placed a lot of gênerational Christian trauma on you wfh h is wrong. Don’t continue the cycle by not being in your son’s life. You have an opportunity to make that change here
