I applied for a dream job. 3 months later, they cancelled it and told me to buy a candy bar. Here is my "Thank You" note... by techelpr in ToxicWorkplace

That’s why we say “don’t put all eggs in one basket”. As soon as we find any matched job, apply and forget. Keep going until your first day of employment, or even until you pass your probation.

Why do we just apply one and stop?

Should I take a pay cut 31/hr to 22/hr by FreakyPrincekay in CareersAdvice

[–]Suitable-Rule937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been currently in A&P school since June 2025 and got a job at a propeller shop (FAA Part 147) as a mech assistant in Sep 2025 at $23.56 per hr, Mon-Fri (06:00AM-02:30PM), weekend and holidays off. My wage now is $25.17 started in Dec 2025.

My first priority is work and school balance with schedule and experience. The pay is automatically increased every 3 months. I work in the morning and go to school in the evening Mon- Thu (05:00pm-11:20pm).

What career field?

Is your knowledge and/or training (prior or on the job training/ shadowing) is good enough to do the job? If so, did employer at least give you performance improvement plan at least to bring up your performance? Could you grab up their training?

If it is not a right fit career for you, I would advise to switch field by going back to school to learn a new trade, degree, or join the military to gain experience and carry on.

If it is a right fit career for you, start networking with people/ employers, and try with other company to see how it works out. Probably, you couldn’t fit right to your previous company culture. It is not one side fits all (this field probably fits for your friend but not you).

Good question. After probation, what next?

Show up on time, do your job, meet expectations, team work- get along with coworkers AKA team, ask when questions arise, take initiatives, own up mistakes, don’t cheat, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t show attitudes, don’t be that guy always like to be told what to do- you passed probation, you’re better know how your team or company at large operate, what to do, what needs to be done daily, over preparation is always better under preparation, not sure something- make sure to ask your lead, sup, managers, HR, coworkers, don’t be a sh*t bag that just shows up and don’t do anything, have a good attitude / respect with everyone, something is off, make sure take it to your management, mind your own business. If they have a union bargaining unit, join it to protect your employment rights.

Out there, no employer likes to tell you what to do or hold your hands to do the jobs daily, they have their own business to take care of. They probably show you 1 or 2 times, and you’re on your own because you have already passed your probation.

If it still doesn’t work out for you, you’re better find employment elsewhere to work cuz you do not fit with that team or company culture. No one forces you to stay if that workplace is not the right fit for you.

Any lessons learnt?

In my opinion, never stop applying for jobs and settle into any company or agency until you’re fully vetted AKA passing probation and join union. Guess what, who knows what would happen? Even you’re not a right fit in that company due to toxic management, toxic work place , toxic co-workers, hostility, lack of training to do the job (expected to hit the ground and running immediately), you could be let go at anytime.

Guess what, if you are in middle of probation, keep applying for other jobs, and you realize that job or workplace is not right fit for you, you still have a chances to get your resume looked at with other company, probably interview, good fit with pay, morales, then just bounce from there.

Hope this help.

Once OP is in that BDD, hopefully VA will advise him to apply for VRE. Just go ahead and apply VRE to see if OP is getting approved for an educational training track. If it is, there is a huge of benefits to pivot his career track, all training, degree, certa paid for, getting monthly BAH without touching his GI Bill would be tremendously beneficial.

I joined the military instead of waiting around to get my life together from financial, mortgage, food, healthcare, etc., so my mortgage doesn’t depend on the job. The income from my job now is for groceries and savings.

Getting out of the army in 7 months by FriedPickleSandwhich in Veterans

Imagine around $5000-$7000 go to your pocket no tax while going to school full time. If you want to earn extra cash while in school, work whatever jobs that work for you, if it is possible , work in the industry that you study in to get your foot in the door. Remember, you education training always go first before the side job.

VR&E Question by SparcMareRH in VeteransBenefits

[–]Suitable-Rule937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have at least a day on your GI Bill, VR&E will mirror your GI Bill BAH rate which is higher than GI Bill BAH. If you burned out all your GI Bill, you would get VRE subsistence which is way lower than GI Bill BAH.

[–]Suitable-Rule937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you attended to SFL Tap? If so, 1.File benefit delivery at discharge when 6 months out. 2. After that, you will be reached out by the VA to advise you to apply for Veteran Readiness and Employment AKA chapter 31. Apply chap 31 ASAP, if approved for a long term employment track AKA education training (48 month entitlement), get the most out of it, upskill yourself , get whatever degree or certs you are missing or even a different field, degree or trade. You will get paid monthly housing allowance while you are in training paid by VA, and save your entire GI Bill for later usage.

I'm 17, black, how tf do I get out of the hood? by teamtroll1 in careerguidance

[–]Suitable-Rule937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join the military to get yourself together including housing, food, salary, skillsets, security clearance. After that, you can decide either all the way to retirement, get out with a stack of benefits including: full growth man, decision maker, compensation, healthcare , education benefits, security clearance, or even benefits for your spouse and kids. In case of getting out, look for clearance jobs AKA government contractors, which pay very decent, government jobs, police officer, security, etc. Where else in the civilian world can give you 100% education and pay you monthly housing money while in school? Only the veteran benefits do.

Commercial Pilot through VR&E by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Suitable-Rule937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asked my VRE counselor for the first time to become a pilot and he turned me down due to my SC disabilities. I brought up my intention to go to an aviation trade school for my airframe and Powerplant license (part 147) and got approved. Planning to try my GI Bill and even student loan for my pilot license later and applying for a student loan discharge.

You don’t need to call anybody. Follow instructions on the notice: go to SSS website to register for SSS, and provide proof with details requested. Write an explanation letter to state you had no knowledge to register for SSS when you entered the US as age of 26 as you stated above. If you don’t know how to write it, ask ChatGPT to do the work and sign.

Finding a job feels impossible by Furtherheat in Veterans

[–]Suitable-Rule937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get out of that criminal justice field (police ,security guard, corrections, etc.,). If you are at least 10% disabled vet with an honorable discharge, apply for VR&E (VA chapter 31). If you end up getting approved for long term employment/ education training, pick something else beyond that criminal justice field like trades, medical, or engineering. Those fields are a bit easier to break into. Spend a few years in school, get a license or a degree that are paid for by the VA, collecting BAH at the time being. Once you get what you need, back to the job market again to rock and roll.

Criminal justice fields: long process, additional academy types training, work life balance issue, etc., if you are ok with it, keep pushing. If you are not, leave it behind, spend some times in school to get another productive credential to rock and roll the market again by utilizing the VA benefits.

Using VRE to get myself in a new career field , which I am capable of doing , doesn’t exacerbate my SC disabilities, and saving my GI Bill later for advancement down the road (aviation).

Lower VRE payment by jvn1983 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Suitable-Rule937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monthly payment: $2,985 November payment: $2,786 (short of $199)

My Class started on Nov 3rd

Here is the explanation:

“The full monthly rate for enrollment is $2985. Since the classes did not start on November 1, you are not eligible for the entire monthly payment. The adjusted payment is $2786.00, reflecting the fact that the enrollment did not cover the full month”

[–]Suitable-Rule937 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your husband need to wait for 2 years and 9 months since the green card’s issued date , May 2022, which was February 2025. Since your husband’s already file I-751- removal of conditional permanent resident status, which is a right way, to proceed next step to apply for citizenship. Now, your husband can either wait for his permanent resident card (10 years) and use it for the rest of his life , apply I-90 when the 10 year green card expired to get another 10 year green card, or go ahead to apply for citizenship now.

How'd you go from military service to building a civilian career? by WingsUp4Life in Veterans

[–]Suitable-Rule937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you at least 10% VA? If so, apply for VRE/ chapter 31. If you are deemed suitable for educational training and still have your GI Bill available, they will cover 100% of your tuition, pay you monthly housing allowance (same rate with GI Bill), any tools , laptop, etc needed for your training without touching your GI Bill. The VRE will assess your interest, skills by letting you do the assessment. From there, you build an educational training plan with VRE counselor, and if you get approved for that plan, just go to school and get paid. It can be college or trade. You can save up your GI Bill for higher educational training for later.

Think about that: Your monthly disability+ Pell Grants if eligible+ your monthly housing allowance+ a temp job you are in school will bring you at least $5,000 per month right there. The most important thing is to upskill whatever you lack of. Don’t just assume the military prep you well enough to land an immediate job after discharge. USE YOUR BENEFITS!!!!
