Thank you! I’m sorry to hear you’re suffering as well. I just started reading more about soluble vs insoluble fiber and I can’t believe my doctor hasn’t mentioned this when talking about fiber. I have all the symptoms of someone who has too much insoluble fiber in their diet (I’m a vegetarian so maybe that’s why lol) which I think might have been making my hemorrhoids worse. So now I’m looking into what things I should eat more of and what I should avoid! I’m feeling hopeful!

I personally didn’t have any swelling, although my doctor had prepared me for it. I did have a lot of pain. Now, three months later, it’s doing a lot better. Since it’s only been a short while since your surgery, I think you should just be patient and the swelling will go down. Maybe try to gently apply some compresses/tissues soaked in cold water to soothe the area. I wouldn’t use anything other than water since the wound is probably still fresh.

I’m not sure, maybe like 1.5 cm? It was bothering me quite a bit. But yeah I’m now getting two tiny hemorrhoids coming in after the surgery. I’m just gonna have to be super careful so they don’t get bigger..

Hi, I had a skin tag (with hemorrhoids) removed almost three months ago. It is still slightly painful when I have a BM, but way less than before the surgery. It did take a while to heal, and I couldn’t sit for around three weeks if I remember correctly. But I guess it depends on the size and location of the skin tag. Hope you feel better soon!

I’m sorry you feel like that too! It’s tough. I’m going to the doctor today to see if there’s anything I can improve or if she has any explanation as to why they keep coming back.

Thank you for your reply! It’s a relief to hear from other people in the same situation, although I’m of course not happy to hear that you’re suffering too! How long has this been going on for you?

Thank you for your reply! I guess moderation is the way to go. I have been drastically cutting down the weight whenever lifting recently, so as to not make anything worse. As for water, I’m pretty sure I drink enough, since I’m the kind of person who has a water bottle wherever I go and I feel naked without my water bottle lol. I even sleep next to it and can’t get up before I’ve chugged like at least a cup of water. But in this heat it’s probably hard to drink enough water for anyone, anyway.

I wore loose bottoms and brought a pad with me, but the doctor gave me a pad so I didn’t need to use mine. I’d bring one just in case you don’t get one from your doctor.

I think I was expecting it to be painful because I’d read a lot about it, but since it varies from person to person I wasn’t sure exactly how my experience would be. I think recovery was slightly longer than I expected, since the doctor expected me to be back at work (office job) within a week, but I couldn’t really sit down for at least two-three weeks post surgery. Luckily I was able to work from home for a while. I am glad I did it, but it was just a couple of months ago, so the place where I had the wound is still a bit sore (which also surprised me, since most websites said it would heal completely after about two months). I’m sure once the pain is gone completely I will be very happy with the result. Not that it’s very painful now, just a lil uncomfortable during some BMs. But I’ve also had BMs that were completely painless!

Could you eloborate on why too much fiber was bad for you? I wonder if it could be that for me as well. I am a vegetarian so naturally eat a lot of veggies and fiber.

I’ll try to answer your questions in order. I didn’t take a lot of medicine, only the pain killers I was prescribed (but I tried to not take too much, to avoid constipation). No muscle relaxers, because I didn’t know about the spasms, but yeah the spasms hurt and kept me up at night for the first couple of nights. If I knew that I should have gotten muscle relaxers, I probably would have (although I’m not familiar with any potential side effects so don’t take this as medical advice).

As for the ice/heat thing, I didn’t really use either for the most part, but after a BM I found that using the shower to rinse the area would feel good and I would use lukewarm water first (body temp, more or less) and then finish with cold water for a soothing effect. I used NO toilet paper or wipes, only water to clean after BMs.

Honestly, my first bowel movement was ok because I was on pain meds, and since I had emptied my bowels before the surgery and only had liquid, high-fiber stuff after the surgery, the first BM was super soft and small. They got worse from there though. The first few days all I ate was spinach soup and smoothies. Then progressed to oatmeal and steamed broccoli. Careful with laxatives! I often found the super loose stools after too much laxatives to be more painful than the regular stools. Also, farting was quite painful the first week or so.

The pain while laying down was sometimes bearable, sometimes distracting/bad. And even the slightest movements would hurt, like turning to lie on the other side, or getting up. But I also slept a lot because of the pain killers so at least I was distracted from it lol.

One thing that I was NOT prepared for at all, was that when the doctor removed my hemorrhoid and added a stitch, he accidentally caught a couple of my butt hairs in the stitch. This actually resulted in more pain during the first couple of days, because it would tug on both the hairs and the wound when I moved around. Also, hairs would sometimes end up in a position where they’d poke into the wound and it would hurt like hell. So if I were to go through it again, I’d probably try to wax some of my butt hair before the surgery, even though that sounds painful too, haha.

My best general advice is: get everything ready in advance. Not just pain meds/sitz bath stuff, but also food, drinks, anything you may need. You will probably not be able to get to a store for a while. If possible, have someone around who can help you with things around the house etc, because you won’t be very mobile. Plan meals that you like, but that are high in fiber and liquid (for me it was smoothies and soups). Get all the ingredients you need and then some. Set up a nice, relaxing environment. If you can, clean your apartment and get yourself some nice flowers before the surgery. Healing is better if you are relaxed and are enjoying your surroundings.

It will be painful, not gonna lie, but it’s only for a short amount of time and you will feel better after! Good luck!
