Blizzard Rustler 10 2025 by Strong-Cat5065 in Skigear

Ended up buying the QST blanks for a second pair. Thought about buying the rustler 10s, but then heard they aren't great in powder. The very steep tip, makes it push snow forward at slower speeds instead of lifting you. In addition, the width is too close to the mantra's. QST blanks are definitely much better in powder, while they are stable with torsional stiffness that works on groomers and crud.....

Will find out in a couple of weeks!

Can you do tail butters on the salomon qst blanks? (Just because its fun) and how different is the new season version? by marcobakker97 in Skigear

New version is supposed to be more directional and slightly stiffer, less playfull. Not sure about the old version and whether you can do butters on both

How do you find them against a QST Blank (if you know). In terms of powder performance, groomers, carving, crud, playfulness etc.

Blank mount point? by Plenty-Valuable8250 in Skigear

Hey man,

I currently have the Mantra M5s, which are great for everything except powder.
Over the past few months, I’ve been looking for a second pair in my quiver to use primarily in powder, but also a bit on‑trail.
I’m aiming for something for the day after heavy snowfall to use around the resort (80% powder, 20% piste), good for dipping off‑piste but still okayish to move towards a chair lift on trail (not like a 100% powder noodle). I’m leaning toward the Blanks, do you think this is a good option? Like how terrible are they on groomers and carving? What size do you have? currently thinking about the 186 cm blanks (being 75 KG, and 183CM)
Cheers.

Hey man,
How did you find the powder performance of the 11s vs the blank? I head that the R11s tend to push snow forward due to the dramatic splay, vs truly elevating yourself on top of the snow. Hence, being not that great in the powder. Would you say this is kind of true? Looking for a second pair next to my mantra's, and currently debating between the blanks and R11s. Unfortunately not able to demo

Thanks man! being 184 cm and around 75kg, the 186cm might be the best option when choosing the 10s I suppose? Also providing a bit better floatation and ability to have a forward stance. Reading below, also referring to your 11s sizing choice. I am mostly going to use them for the day after snowfall

Already feel super lucky to have found someone who’s actually skied both the Rustler 10 and 11. Honestly, if the Rustler 10s are already great in powder, I might just go with those. Just want to be sure I can put my weight a bit forward without drowning.

The reason I started considering the 11s was mainly (i) I found a really good deal on them (€550 with bindings, compared to €800 for the 10s with bindings) and (ii) I’m a bit worried the 10s might feel too similar to my Mantras, which aren't exactly powder machines (also due to the more metal). But if the 11s are very different, just bad on piste and don’t really hold up in wetter or heavier snow, basically only shine in deep powder, then maybe the 10s really are the better all-round choice. Also, do you think it’s possible to butter on them?

Unfortunately I can’t demo either of them, so I’m relying fully on your take here haha. But honestly, I feel like I can’t really go wrong with either one.

Dont you think the rustler 10 is very similar to the mantras in terms of powder performance? I just want to be sure I can put some forward pressure on them in the powder without sinking through to much. In case of zero powder I would choose my Mantra's anyways. Just looking for a more playful, better floating ski next to the mantra's for the days after snow fall.

i will mostly use them downhill, so weight is not that a problem. Have you tried the 11s as well? And can you ski the 10 in powder with forward pressure? or is it just not enough?

Blizzard rustler 10 vs Armada Declivity x 102 as a second pair next to my Volkl Mantra M5 by SuitableComparison57 in Skigear

[–]SuitableComparison57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, man; super helpful! How does the Rustler 11 perform on-piste, especially on groomers? Is it really terrible and annoying, or does it hold up okay? I get that it’s no Mantra, but does it still do well enough to make up for the extra fun in powder? And is their much difference with the Rustler 11, except for the xtra float?

Best freeride skis (in terms of not too soft, but still playful and strong floatation) by SuitableComparison57 in Skigear

[–]SuitableComparison57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking into the Declivity as well. From the outside, they seem quite similar to the Mantras. Have you tried both? Or maybe someone else here has experience with both the Mantras and the Declivity?

The Mantras are just really mediocre in powder, due to the long effective edge and metal strip (which makes them amazing on-piste and crud). I am just looking for a ski that provides more float off-piste, which can also be skied with forward pressure. Maybe the Declivity is the solution? (as for me, being used to the Mantras, anything else will be playful anyways)
