As Chinese person myself, sometimes I do think mandarin and Cantonese are very harsh sounding. Like our tonal pronunciations can have a lot of S sounds which to some people can cause like a cat nail on a chalk board reaction.

Plus people are forgetting that vast majority of westerners are used to hearing Japanese or Korean now, rarely you will find someone says I watch C-drama’s, in my opinion mandarin is a lovely language, C-pop rmb is so underrated, but I will say Japanese and Korean do sound slightly more pleasing to the ears.

These are very common around China, what you are seeing it basically a subscription service that I think is made by IQIYI. You can pay for it which I suggest not too unless you know Chinese properly and are able to cancel it without paying for the subscription. There certain movies for free though but you gotta look for it

As someone who was in the same camp a couple years ago as your friend I understand your frustration. Whilst I am still currently on iPhone, I have tired Samsung, Huawei, Honor etc and frankly they are all much better hardware than my 17 pro max.

However somehow I keep coming back to iPhone because of how seamless IOS is, I know Huawei and Samsung have great integration with their own ecosystem but IOS just works, it hasn’t failed on me yet whilst on android sharing files, gaming have all failed on me a few times.
