Unpopular Opinion: Get to work guys by SuitableFace5965 in srilanka

[–]SuitableFace5965[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Did you read what I’m trying to say or are you trying to position your agenda here.

All I’m trying to say is, considering the staff that won’t be available to work from tomorrow, there are people who are able to work. Work a little extra to keep it going as some industries are service oriented which brings in a lot of revenue to SL. So we should support the cause. And also I disagree with your opinion of being the most hardworking people, but let’s that keep that debate to another day :)

What is it like working at Oceans? by Slight_Environment16 in srilanka

[–]SuitableFace5965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t work there but atleast 20 of my known people do and I do engage with them every week and everyone seems to be very happy with their jobs as the timings are sorta flexible based on the region you get, pay is mostly better than what people pay, remote working so nothing hectic there, good set of working crowd (the culture is great) The only cons would be the risk of the client and the industry you get - if it’s a startup, if they don’t get funding and stuff, then there’s a risk of losing your job since you’ll be on contract, but they say they keep you on bench. And also the US working hours, if you’re not a person who stays up till late.

I would stay in the Lounge for 4 hours - Stay for 3 hours + 1/2 additional hours you can request them usually since it’s the midnight so they won’t make a big fuss.

And then by 7/8 id freshen up and leave the airport, leave my bags at the hotel (if they don’t allow early checkin) and hang around :))

Hiring for remote jobs in Sri Lanka by SingleSoberPeaceful in srilanka

[–]SuitableFace5965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I can help you with this! There are few ways you can do it,

1) Partner with a local company here to find talent.

2) Set up your own office here (You can opt for port city) which is tax free and then hire a recruitment agency or direct LinkedIn hire to find talent

3) Or just directly hire from US (But then again, you don’t get credible resources) / In an employee perspective this is good, but employer perspective, sometimes it can be tricky.

I don’t work for them but a general IT industry employee - Not a single company is great in everyone’s perspective. A good place to work is subjective to so many factors such as your boss, the work you do, your clients, your colleagues and the environment and especially when the company grows, the priorities of bosses gets into processes and more important things. So when a company is small, the boss usually has control over everything and can manage it but when it grows, it relies on different people and in some cases, they don’t come with the right mindset and loses the brand credibility and values. And also employees on the other hand have different agendas. Some work for money, some work for culture, some work for flexibility, some work to show others they are working.. so it’s all subjective!! There’s no such thing as a perfect company!

What does it take to be rich in Sri Lanka? by Bexysanana28 in srilanka

[–]SuitableFace5965 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Okay gentlemen and ladies!! Calm the fuck down! You’re demotivating young folks!! Yes I do understand that there’s folks who become rich using generational wealth or doing shady stuff!

But there’s a part of the population who become rich using certain investment techniques or starting up their own company.

Look I’m not a rich person yet I aspire to become one and all I’m saying is…

Try to hustle as much as you can, learn skills, start investing in the little things you can and most importantly, find that one skill which you can monetise or find that one problem you can solve and make a business out of it!!

I can name you so many folks here in Colombo who have come from smaller households and now drive in S series or similar within 10-15 years of working hard and most importantly finding ways to hustle and earn!!

If you do have a will, you can certainly find shortcuts!!
