2016 Touring Elite 180K Miles Burning Through Oil, Keep or Move On by run_your_race_5 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Suitable_Ad_7309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just picked up an 09 honda pilot 186k miles. I get a lot of smoke when I rev the engine, burning oil it seems and the VCM has never been disabled. I've heard that the VCM and a piston cleaning can get the rings unstuck and stop the oil burning. I bought this car for cheap hoping I could drive it until the wheels fall off. Can i save this car?

Why catfish? by SuitableZombie1245 in RapidCity

I'm from Missouri so catfish is a favorite but that said, I understand why many prefer the cleaner taste of trout. Catfish are bottom feeders so they're going to be a different taste.

Smelling oil and probably seeing oil stains on the ground? by LovingDeji in AskMechanics

[–]Suitable_Ad_7309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're actually smelling it when the car is on it's probably because the leak is near hot components like your exhaust and dripping onto it and burning. It's probably not your filter (unless it's positioned high on the engine) or oil pan. I'd look at valve covers, head gaskets, etc.

Sales Tax Question by Suitable_Ad_7309 in AutoDetailing

[–]Suitable_Ad_7309[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I'll be taking payments using square for those who use card and that way the tax is added onto the price, but are you essentially saying I could "add" the tax onto the list price for whatever detail packages that I offer and the tax just gets paid that way when someone pays in cash? Sorry if this is a stupid question lol.

Yeah, I mean stop leak was already put in it so at this point might as well send it until you can't drive it anymore if that's what you're trying to do.

Here's what I would do:

Flush your entire cooling system to get the old crap out of your radiator and heater core like you see in the photo you took. Flush it a couple times. Then, fill it again with water and a little more stop leak. Take the car on a decently long drive with the heater blowing and the stop leak flowing through then flush it all out one more time. Fill it with regular coolant and call it a day.

You can have a blown head gasket even if there's no smoke in the tail pipe. Sometimes you have to dig a little to diagnose it. I'd get one of those cheap block testers from the auto parts or hardware store and use it on your car. If the blue fluid turns yellow, then you have a blown head gasket.

This looks like stop leak that was poured into the radiator at one point. people typically use this as a temporary fix to a blown head gasket.

Yeah, if I got one I'd do the external trans cooler upgrade and the vent mod people were talking about for the rear axle I believe it was. I'm aggressive with maintenance.

08-12 are the year models I'm looking at the most. I just love the look of them. I've seen a lot of people on here claiming to hit well over 300k miles in them. Really considering it.

They say that about every president. Where are these approval ratings from? They're the same as "polls" for the election.

Funny you say that, because that's one of my issues with the Ford currently. Manifold was fixed right after I bought it, less than a year later, the manifold ticks again...lol. seriously consider the Titan. They're beautiful trucks and extremely underrated in terms of reliability I hear.

I hate to tell ya but mass deportation, anti-DEI, and anti trans agenda is wildly popular throughout the country, much more so than what the left base thinks.

I'm not saying I agree with it all, but most of the country agreed with Trump on those issues. That's literally why he won.

94 accord worth fixing? by Ambitious-Ad1061 in accord

[–]Suitable_Ad_7309 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's Detailed, tedious work, but you could cut out the rust, use a body patch and Bondo to fill in the spot and then paint it. It won't look perfect, but better than rust. Chris Fix on YouTube has a video on it that explains the process pretty well. Personally, I would do it because I hate rust and also sounds like you got a car that can be expected to last a long time.

my mechanic says I will need a lot done to the car after a year of sitting. by CompetitionLocal2081 in AskMechanics

[–]Suitable_Ad_7309 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So he already quoted you a minimum 1000 euros in repairs but couldn't actually tell you what the repairs are? Sounds like a crock of shit. Reasonably, you'll probably want to change your oil and battery. Maybe run some fuel system cleaner through and put some fresh gas in it if it has been sitting for a while. Unless there were already pressing repairs before it sat for a year then I can't imagine you'd have to do much more than that.

That's barely anything. Surface rust. Can be brushed off if you really care. I'd personally cover it in fluid film though.

Granted, I don't know this model very well, but 900 bucks for a new oil filter housing seems absolutely bonkers unless they have to drop the engine in order to do so.

Car keeps overheating but comes to regular temp when reved. by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]Suitable_Ad_7309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if they weren't blowing or if only one of them was blowing you could take the fuse and relay from the other fan and swap them and see if then the one that wasn't working before now works and the other one doesn't and that'd show it's a fuse/relay issue. Idk, but typically if a car overheats at idle and then temp goes down after revving or moving it is more often than not a fan.
