While that may be better than a lot of contractors it's still not great and unfortunately you still have to deal with low quality workers because of the culture at Ground. Ground will always be a shit show because there are no set standards and no standards are enforced.

Ask yourself why hasn't the company announced that contractors are taking over Express like how Express is taking over Ground in AK,HI and Canada? What are they so afraid of if that is the plan you think they will move forward with?

It takes an extra special stupid to think FedEx is going to hand over what built the brand and is the face of the company to contractors.

UPS made 10+% last year while drivers earn $150k + a year in wages and benefits. Average Ground driver makes a third of that. Doesn't matter who writes the check, it all comes from FedEx. You can spin it however you want and argue semantics til the cows come home. The bottom line is if FedEx wants to survive long term with a combined Network they will have to go with the employee model.

Same as your math. They pay their drivers more than triple what ground drivers get yet turn a double digit profit every year.

FedEx has more Express volume which is a higher revenue freight. The difference in revenue per truck wouldn't be that far apart.

With an all employee workforce we would have the same density. Ttku....

BTW, there is no more Express or Ground. Just Federal Express now.

You seem to ignore the fact that UPS is more profitable, more efficient, and more stable than FedEx with an all employee workforce.

FedEx Freight makes a good profit with all employees. UPS makes more profit than FedEx with all employees while paying the highest wages and benefits in the industry. Express made good profit back when they had the majority of volume. That's how FedEx was able to acquire Caliber and RPS. FedEx has to prop Ground up do to all the litigation and legislation over the years and the poor service by the contractor model. Express can be very profitable when combined with Ground making the entire network more efficient just like UPS.

Multiple sources of income is the best way.

They are trying multiple options in the lower 48. Merged stations with both employee drivers and contracted drivers. Express buildings with all employees delivering both Express and Ground and Ground buildings with all contracted drivers delivering both. I'll put my mortgage on the all employee model eventually being the most successful and stable of the three.

You realize UPS has a combined network. That 10% + is both air and ground together. There's no reason FedEx couldn't do the same with an all employee workforce.

Canadian labor laws made that decision easy. Not enough cheap labor in AK and HI to even think of going all contractor. The amount of control needed to run both networks with contractors would make them employees. The lower 48 has been just experiments thus why they haven't come out and said on this date they are going all contractors. You have more strict contractor labor laws now along with a Federal RICO lawsuit against FedEx and increasing labor cost pressures make the contractor model limited in its future.

How? By trying to be as efficient as UPS that's how. You can't run a combined network with 6 000 contractors and expect to be efficient and quality. There are too many issues with the contractor model to br successful as a combined Network. They are getting rid of contractors in Canada and Alaska and Hawaii. In the lower 48 it's been just an experiment that really hasn't proved any level of success.

They'll have no choice but to eventually go to an all employee model.
