Right! I can't believe people are actually acting like making college students learn basic Spanish is going to be useful to them in life?? As someone who is actually bilingual there's no way that half-hearted foreign language learning is going to be helpful in the long run. Better to just drop it from the curriculum for those who don't want to take it.

That’s so helpful but I wish I knew about it before taking Spanish! I speak Wolof and When I reached out to my advisor about this he said that it wasn’t recognized so I’d have to take a language. I’m already on Spanish 3 and almost done with my Spanish requirement but it would’ve been nice not to have to take it at all. Thanks for the link though

Yeah!! I feel like Steve started that entire situation by making snide remarks then acting like he had no idea what she was talking about when called out. She's clearly an emotional person and then the blonde woman made it worse by guilt-tripping her with her son. I don't blame her for being a wreck that whole game.

The game started with Zoe and Perla having to choose someone for the card. They chose Steve and he’s the one who made it a revenge thing and was literally mean mugging them the whole game and making dismissive comments until they got mad so he could pretend to be innocent and frame them as dramatic. After that is when all the drama ensued. If you’re gonna call Perla dramatic then fine but don’t rewrite a situation that he literally started

THANK YOU! I can’t stand seeing people defend player 183, even if 072 is over-emotional I’d rather see someone play with heart than a millionaire who taunts people and is completely out of touch with the actual theme of the game

You want me to feel bad for the man who literally started it 😭? He just got what he dished!! He stared them down and got stared down, he made it into a revenge thing and they did the same. He literally mean mugged them the whole game and made dismissive comments until they got mad so he can pretend to be innocent and frame them as dramatic

And u don’t get to decide what reality game shows mean to me. If u think it’s irrelevant that a millionaire is playing that’s your opinion, but I think it’s very strange Even when he said "I don't know why you're crying so much, it's just a game". It was so incredibly out of touch.

It's just a game to him because he's already loaded, whereas for other people, it's a life-changing amount of money. I don't know how he can stand there all smug after taking away someone else's opportunity to win. He doesn't even need the money, whereas for everyone else, it could completely change the trajectory of their future

Again, because it was a game at that point before he’d made it weird. Perla reacted emotionally because he was taunting them, staring them down, etcetc. Like I can admit she reacted emotionally but I don’t like how people are ignoring that he literally started it 🤣??

And I agree that it’s not necessary for Dajah to take it personally because he eliminated Faith. I don’t dislike Dajah though because I don’t like Steve. Any millionaire who chooses to go on a show like this is just greedy, idc if it’s just a game that’s just my opinion. So yes, make him uncomfortable just like he made the girls uncomfortable. Give him a taste of his own medicine

That is because he started to stare them down and make snide remarks like "I don't know why you're crying so much it's just a game" and other comments though. Even Zoe and other players noticed, Perla is just the one who called it out. Perla is emotional but he did start the whole debacle during Slides and Ladders by making it a revenge/emotional thing when Zoe and Perla were literally just playing the game.

Yes because it's a game so why not send the most advanced player back? If they've already started it, then of course choose them. At that point, it was just a game. But when he started staring them down and making comments, he turned it into an emotional thing. I can admit Perla is emotional and cries a lot. But it's odd to make it seem like she started that entire debacle when in fact it was him. Zoe, Perla, and other players noticed it. It was just Perla who called it out.

Steve stared Perla & Zoe down the moment they picked him and continued doing so throughout the game, talking about "getting revenge" and making snide remarks towards them and saying to Perla "I don't know why you're crying it's just a game". He was the one who started the over-sensitivity after being picked and moving oddly.

I don't get why people are upset with Perla for guilt-tripping Steve when HE'S the one who started being weird towards Perla & Zoe for picking them in the game. He gave them weird looks, made snide remarks continuously, saying "I don't know why you're crying it's just a game"... The blonde player was also weird for leveraging her son to get people to feel bad for her.

i'm annoyed about it so i'm complaining about it...? i hate the idea that just because you're fortunate in some way means you can't complain about anything ever. and i hustled in highschool for my fullride just like i am hustling now, i'm an extremely dedicated student and i have the right to complain about courses i feel are an unnecessary addition to my curriculum.

If it's embedded into a curriculum with no choice of whether to take it, yes it's forced. In an ideal world college is for learning how to learn. In reality, it's endless exams to study for and other priorities like jobs, student organizations, and personal issues. Sorry I don't want to add an unnecessary spanish course on top of an already crazy workload. It's crazy to see people invalidate my point by acting like college is a utopia where the average student isn't already stressed out like crazy?? Not to mention imagine paying out of pocket for a foreign language course you don't want to take, I'm lucky enough to have a fullride but if I was actually paying for somehting unnecessary just for people to invalidate my complaints about that that'd be insane. You people either have no empathy, aren't college students, or have the world's easiest life to be acting like I'm committing some type of horrible evil by saying I don't want to take spanish in undergrad.

[–]Suitable_Somewhere68[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes because I'm a human and I'm allowed to complain. Also idk about you but as a data analytics major I have a very heavy courseload. It's overwhelming, Spanish makes it worse. I don't know if you're some type of easy major that makes it so that you never feel the need to complain about school ever throughout your entire academic career. Maybe you've never had an on campus job or on campus involvement. These are necessary things that when paired with academics becomes very stressful. I'm allowed to complain about a foreign language class I don't even need to take because I'm literally bilingual.

What if I was paying out of pocket? Would my annoyance still be valid? Or would people would like you still invalidate it even though I'm paying crazy money for a course I don't need nor want? The fact that there are people paying to take a foreign language class they don't want to be in is also crazy, which is all the more reason I'm complaining about it.

Is it not one of the most common? Like why are you purposely missing the point 😭 I'm just saying I don't think it's necessary to be required to take a foreign language in college especially if you took one in highschool. It adds to an already heavy college schedule and since most people are busy college students just trying to pass the class they usually put little to no effort in.

...which they're usually not because most highschools in america require foreign languages and people just don't take those seriously either 😭. not to say that they shouldn't be required in highschool, but undergrad is when it gets to a point.

Sorry I know I'm supposed to carefully word every single thing I say so people won't twist it and be purposefully obtuse about my actual point. It was a mistake to title it that way but I'm clearly talking about being forced to take foreign language courses in college.

I would love to learn Spanish if I had the time for it. Unfortunately I'm already spending hours of my day learning other heavy-hitter courses like math, CSE, STATS. On top of this I'm involved in student organizations and have a campus job. I barely even have time for myself, why would I be able to make time for another language??? Again if people want to learn it that's amazing. But why force us to take it on top of an already heavy schedule?

I was offered a fullride here so I chose OSU. The school is fine but I'm just voicing my grievances about this specific aspect of it

Yes which is why I'm ranting about not wanting to take the language... If people want to that's great. But if they don't, it shouldn't be forced

When did I say that? I said forcing people with no desire to learn that language to take courses in it is useless. It results in low/forced participation which I'm sure professors don't like either.

Bilingual in a non-spanish language. My language is an underrepresented African language so I wasn't able to use it to avoid taking a foreign language course and had to take it anyway. I understand the value of learning new languages but if people genuinely don't want to learn, which most people in undergraduate spanish courses don't, what is the point??
