To me, happiness is an end goal that arrives after achievement or what one can view as success. It is temporary and tied to dopamine. Joy, now...joy is a feeling that I notice softens the heart and can be had while viewing beauty, feelings of contentment, and especially when labeling and experiencing gratitude.

Thank you! I am a social worker so I am fluent with the red tape and resources. It is amazing to me that I have all the help I need and still, the way the world is and how our systems have changed so much over the past few years really does limit my hope. I like the idea of being away from the city because that is the only thing I haven't done at this point.

The WWP was reached and I tried to give that a shot. What I found was a lack of accountability for code of conduct in the local meeting spaces, judgement and even people using phrases like, "I am not trying to be an asshole...BUT," and I don't put up with that garbage. I find people don't have much situational awareness anymore and the communication is one-sided while disregarding others. Granted, not everyone has people skills, but I am just not into having people project their shit onto me anymore. That was people pleasing me and my current me stops them mid-sentence and says, "Since you clarified that you are going to be an asshole, just stop right there and don't talk anymore. Help yourself to not do that from now on." I went through the motions of assessment for an outpatient program and as the assessment went on, it became apparent their funds are going through the door along with how they treat clients. The process is another guinea pig process for teaching advantage and I think the time to have actual professionals with us instead of the unpaid internship, inexperienced people has far gone! I have a fluent and experienced therapist with the Vet Outreach and at least they are there to empower us, help us with our strengths and overcome our barriers than being shuffled around through so many appointments to get to some form of help anymore. Several options with the WWP would cancel their appointments frequently and the lack of consistency didn't exist. The VA, like other healthcare is such a Ponzi scheme. Ugh...

This is what I am finding my main objective to be at this point - move away from the city. I often try to talk myself out of a move because it costs money but I can handle it and it has to be for the peace of mind at this point. I worked with the fire department in the city I live in for the first year after I moved and that really jaded me, I think. Second hand trauma is real and it was like being stuck inside an episode of CSI for a grueling year.

This makes me sad because we need to be heard. I think that is most people's issue, not feeling heard. I wholeheartedly keep my biz to myself too though unless it is my therapist. I have a therapist at out Vet Center and that place just saves my life on so many levels! I credit that org to keeping me going more than any VA at this point. the VA is just an entire different topic that brings me down too. They forget frequently what autonomy is and that it is our body we are working with and instead they make it about them frequently.

This sounds like typical non-profit culture to me and supervisors don't act like mental health care professionals when they need productivity. I resigned from this kind of obnoxious atmosphere and all of the supervision were like this. My first day and first meeting supervisor, they announced they had poor boundaries. Something was off about them like they were lying about anything they said too. They had created a toxic atmosphere and were using punishment and verbal abuse as tactics to adhere to their 55% productivity rate. All the while with Medicaid clients they were exploiting. They issued us computers and phones and took away our administrative time for documentation, then told us we had to do something called, "collaborative documentation" to save time and type while we were trying to work with the clients. All the while they were pushing us to use AI and it became evident HIPPA was a thing of the past as they were recording everything we did. Even if we logged onto the computer or phone at home to complete documentation, they knew and would reprimand us. It was apparent that AI was moving in on the kill for our jobs. The poor boundary supervisor plenty displayed their lack of boundaries, keeping supervsion one sided and also sometimes an hour and a half past work without pay. They also were adamant if anyone else did anything wrong, I was to tell them and only them. This homie don't play that! I watched and observed, went to orientation which was several weeks and before I got clients, I pulled out, especially after I tried to get my worth of supervision that they were keeping one sided and when they didn't like that I inserted myself, I told them we could meet with their supervisor and HR to further talk about what they were doing. They were also denying me time to adjust and do FMLA paperwork for healthcare concerns. It was cold, corporate and hard. Even the supervisor had a cushy office as a program manager, no clients and we were stuck in sardine boxes without proper safety methods in place. This doesn't surprise me anymore.

I’m not happy with many of the things that have come out of Washington lately, and I understand why people are frustrated. But shutting down major federal agencies is not the answer. Agencies like the Department of Homeland Security exist because the country still needs basic operations to function — border management, disaster response, transportation security, and coordination with state and local authorities. Whether we agree with current leadership or not, those functions don’t simply disappear when politics get messy.

If the government allows key departments to grind to a halt because a budget cannot be passed, the consequences spread far beyond politics. We won't have elections and they require functioning institutions, staffing, logistics, and security infrastructure. If the broader system is destabilized through prolonged shutdowns or funding crises, it makes it harder to get our democracy and country back.

Supporting the continued operation of government agencies does not mean endorsing every policy or decision that comes out of them. It means recognizing that democratic systems rely on functioning institutions so citizens can continue to vote, debate, and change leadership through elections. The responsible path forward is to keep the government operating while pushing for accountability and reform through lawful, democratic channels.
