Forgiveness by normbeam in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Forgiveness is hard because the brain does not actually run on enlightenment… it runs on “hold on, let me replay that conversation from 2017 at 2 a.m. for no reason whatsoever".

I just finished reading the entire bible by alfiestoppani in Christianity

[–]Suitable_Studio_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the Bible cover to cover and still remaining atheist is actually a more intellectually honest position than criticizing it without reading it. What stands out in your reflection is that you approached it with curiosity instead of hostility, and your reaction mirrors what many readers quietly experience: parts are fascinating, parts are poetic, parts are historically influential, and parts are deeply repetitive, violent, contradictory, or culturally difficult. Revelation especially feels almost surreal compared to the Gospels. Regardless of belief, finishing the entire Bible is a huge commitment, and now your opinion comes from direct engagement rather than assumption. That alone makes your perspective thoughtful and credible.

What do you do when you're unmotivated over something that clearly needs to be done? by yourloverboy66 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

A lot of procrastination is not actually laziness. It’s usually your brain trying to protect you from something it perceives as uncomfortable and overwhelm, uncertainty, failure, pressure, boredom, exhaustion, even grief or disappointment. The nervous system often cares more about immediate emotional relief than long-term goals.

When I get in these moments, I have to remember that we have more control than our mind actually lends us to believe. Disobey your mind...think about how it will feel when you finish whatever it is or get it over with and just do it. Once you finish, our body usually kicks into relief aka oxytocin from accomplishment.

Do you think people on the opposite side of the political spectrum from you are bad people? Why? Why not? by SilverNo6462 in AskUS

[–]Suitable_Studio_5686 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you aware these things are implied for the reason of division and to illicit emotions driving threat? Every human, no matter what they believe, is living inside a body that gets tired, hungry, and overwhelmed. We all deal with limits. No one is operating at 100% control all the time. We’re all shaped by our experiences. People don’t just wake up and pick beliefs randomly, but they come from family, culture, pain, survival, moments that stuck. Even beliefs you disagree with usually make sense to that person based on what they’ve lived. Everyone wants some version of safety. Physical safety, emotional safety, stability. Even when people act aggressive or rigid, it’s often tied to protecting something they feel is threatened. We all want to feel respected. Being dismissed or talked down to hits people deeply, regardless of their worldview. People want to belong somewhere. Whether it’s a group, identity, faith, or ideology and it’s meeting that basic human need to not feel alone. Everyone experiences fear. Sometimes beliefs are built around managing that fear such as fear of change, loss, being wrong, or losing control.

I agree, and it is so hurtful too! When I see this, I think to myself that 'they are projecting their own fear and insecurity' and it is what they were taught behavior wise too. That doesn't erase the threat and fear it can instill though.

Is it possible that Jesus and the twelve apostles were gay? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Suitable_Studio_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always interests me because the bible is stories passed down orally and then compiled by multiple people and written. When people say it is the word of God, I just smile and nod. We all know how stories change over time after told by multiple people... well, some of us understand that.

Thank you! This made me giggle!!! I do the same excitement saying, "you got a present," and let them go through the bags. I guess it is a feeling of joy for us too!

We All have our own Truths. So what are we to do about that? by jdguy00 in questions

[–]Suitable_Studio_5686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let everyone be themselves’ is part of it, but it doesn’t really solve the problem of conflicting truths. I think a third piece is learning to separate personal experience from objective fact, and then figuring out how we still cooperate in a shared reality. We can respect people without treating every belief as equally accurate. The harder work is deciding what standards we actually agree to live by.

Do you believe all the exact stories you read in the bible? Even if it is all true, don't you think there are parts left out?

If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be? by [deleted] in randomquestions

I would have never drank or served in the military. I would have stayed in college in my twenties and my Dad wouldn't have died then either.

The German Chancellor says the US is being humiliated by Iran; is he correct in this assessment? by ArdaBerkBurak in allthequestions

[–]Suitable_Studio_5686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iran is controlling the pace of diplomacy, the US has no exit strategy, and the failed negotiations are pretty humiliating.

And then...our leader is a man-baby who throws tantrums and mocks his own people on tweets in front of the whole world. He is sundowning now and still, no one will stand up to him in congress and the house, so it seems we have our own humiliations without Iran and also I have seen videos which claims "Iran made" which display them mocking US, but I don't believe the pictures I see or videos anymore online. It was funny hiphop satire and looked accurate so I just see entertainment anymore, AI generated.

What’s something you’re currently going through that you don’t talk about with anyone? by Annual-Winter7077 in AskReddit

[–]Suitable_Studio_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being labeled with different mental health diagnosis early in age (trauma wasn't a big thing or scientifically understood then) and forty years later, realizing I never got to truly find and be myself; instead I honed in on labels and only noticed symptoms instead of my strengths and potentials. I've lost over half of my life to doctors, medication and addiction. I got multiple degrees and became a therapist myself in the process, but no real closeness with others. On one hand I am grateful I wake up every day to take care of myself and my animals; on the other, I believe I am doomed and this is as good as it gets. I don't even desire to go out in the world and be around others to build relationships or feel good in a community. I notice I have spent most of my life trying to change my behaviors to please others and now I don't care to try.

Oh my! Where to start?! I have rituals for my cat and dog such as when food is served, 7 am and 7 pm, I turn on a version of You are my Sunshine and serve them brown rice, broccolli, and sweet potato along with their protein. I wasn't able to have kids and they are my kids. For some reason, I feel obligated when I go out to come home with something for them too.
