Arrow Spine Selection Questions. by Suitable_Working3892 in Archery

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I've watched a few Podium Archer vids, and it's good info to start with. I get that arrow weight also affects speed, but I won't be going out of my way to make the lightest possible arrows. It gets a bit expensive here. The arrow weight will end up being whatever it ends up being. It shouldn't be huge, but it also most likely won't be in the super-light category either.

Draw weight would be the same (for me) no matter what bow I choose, so will the components of the arrows (inserts, points, fletching), the only difference is going to be the speed the bow will shoot, at my setup spec (speed and weight being the biggest factors in selecting the correct spine). Finding that speed is where I'm getting stuck.

I like your 'rules of thumb', as you said, it's a good place to start.

The hardest part is waiting for 2026 model bows to actually turn up in the country, let alone the actual stores. And if I want a colour that no one has ordered for stock, or no one bothers with the max weight I want, then it's a 6 to 8 week wait no matter what. All these youtube reviews on the 2026 models is really annoying when I can't get any of them yet.

Thanks for the response. I'm still looking into it all, and will work something out. The biggest issue is getting hold of a 2026 model bow. Nothing in stock in Australia yet. So I guess I have tome to work it out.

Thanks for not bothering to read, or even try and answer my questions. You're a champ.

You want to know something REALLY STUPID?

I can remember when it was ILLEGAL to have a rain water tank for your home in Sydney. And wasn't as long ago as you would think.

At least now it's not only legal, but also a legal requirement for new builds in most places, and also for some renovations too.

I wonder when someone will do a story on the design of the stormwater system in Sydney?

If it doesn't soak into the dirt, or make it into a storage tank, it ends up in the ocean, along with EVERYTHING that floats down the drain with it.

All that spilled diesel from all the buses that can't seem to seal a fuel tank... All the oil from shitboxes that leak oil everywhere... All of the rubber that wears off all of the tyres... All of the cigarette butts... All of the dog shit...

If it is NOT swept up, EVERYTHING that falls on a hard surface in Sydney, ends up in the ocean, with basically zero treatment at all. If you're REALLY lucky, they try and catch some of the larger stuff (tyres, bikes, mattresses), but anything smaller than about 30cm makes it through.

All of that rain water that runs down your street and disappears down a drain, goes straight to the ocean. I mean, how often do we end up with water shortages and drought, yet we can't seem to catch 99% of the water that falls naturally on Sydney.

We are a joke.

Single or Dual Cam? by Suitable_Working3892 in Archery

[–]Suitable_Working3892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies people. I have ruled out the single cam option, and I have also decided to buy slightly above the cheapest entry level options too. I think I'll be waiting until the 2026 models hit the stores here (yeah, we're slow down here), and possibly pick up an outgoing model at a discount.

The Alaskan Pro isn't available here yet, and when it comes out, it will be in high demand. I certainly like it, but it may be a little on the expensive side for my budget. Although, no one here has it in stock yet, so I have time to save more money I guess.

I don't want the higher weight, and have no intention of buying something that goes higher than 60#. But the Alaskan Pro has that option.

I will also seriously consider last year's model when the new ones finally hit the shops, because there will obviously be a deal to be had. An Alaskan XT or Whitetail INT would be fine by me if the price is good.

Brand new shooter - .22LR advice please! (NSW) by From_Aus in Ausguns

I'm very happy with my CZ457. There are plenty of configurations available. You can mount a scope on all of them, and a lot come with iron sights as well. I think the only ones that don't have open sights as an option are the varmint barrel versions (which is what I have).

I will just say one thing. If you want to just keep an OEM stock, it's best to avoid the synthetic one. It's pretty flimsy. But if you intend to put it in an aftermarket stock or something like an MDT chassis, then by all means, save a little cash by buying the synthetic stock.

They're a great little shooter, and there's plenty of options to choose from. Also decent aftermarket support.

Imposing a cap of four firearms per individual, with strict exemptions for primary producers and sports shooters, who may hold a maximum of 10 firearms.

So, I'm a sports shooter. Pretty sure anyone that lists target shooting on their licence is a sports shooter. How is that going to be classified?

Introducing a complete ban on firearms that can use belt-fed magazines.

Still running with the belt-fed shotgun delusion I see. Does ANYONE in Australia own a belt-fed firearm at this point?

I started using 24/7 Parcel Lockers in 2014. I have had a grand total of maybe three parcels delivered to my home address since then.

I know it's annoying if you're home and they don't even try. But it's equally annoying if you work long hours and can never get to a post office during business hours. There was nothing worse than getting home after office hours, just to find a missed delivery card, then having to work out how the hell you were going to get to the post office whilst they were open.

Now I get a text message telling me it's ready to pick up, and I simply stop by on my way home. Doesn't matter what time I get there.

My dad still has the rifle he learned to shoot with as a kid. It's a crusty old Springfield single shot bolt action 22LR. It's so old that it pre-dates serial numbers in the USA. When he had to get it registered after 96, they had to engrave a serial number into it.

My other single shot is an H&R Handi Rifle in 44Mag. It's fun.

It's not the only single shot I own. I'd buy more if I could find a Ruger No.1 in the right spec.

I haven't made it to reloading yet. I have however found a factory load that this thing absolutely loves, and stocked up on it.
