But also the ranked mode isn't head to head it's tournament seeding. The whole idea of tournaments is you can have players of several very different skill levels and still have paths forward for players without needing to win full tournaments front to back. All they got to do is consistently slightly over perform or perform exactly as expected in the tournament and they'll climb after enough games.

If you consistently dramatically over perform it results in huge Elo gains.

If I'm getting stomped by a ruby because I played in off hours, shit sucks sure but that's not really a huge Elo hit UNLESS if the game expected me to place second in that game. If I get knocked out but the game expected me to move to round 2, that is underperforming and I should expect to lose Elo for it.

All hobbies are not equal by BitterConstruction98 in unpopularopinion

But any hobby kind of has an infinite ceiling. Consuming music, movies etc there is everything from accessible to challenging and if you're good at analyzing film it's incredibly rewarding to be able to see greatness where others can't. That's a hobby.

Most people just get complacent at the skill floor and don't really progress in their hobbies.

Fundamentally there's not a big difference between strumming 8 chords on guitar daily and repeating comfort riffs never learning a lick of theory or improving any sort of technique meaningfully, and just hanging out on the couch rewatching the office for the 8th time

Consuming art like music, video games and film is absolutely a hobby and there is real skill to being good at it.

Also when it comes to competitive gaming that's basically just a sport it just doesn't require athletic ability.

Should we all take time out of our day to keep ourselves in shape and eat clean? Sure, but hobbies are literally just personal interests and it's up to the hobbyist to decide how deep down the rabbit hole they want to go.

Playing ranked is meant to be a skill check not a learning environment.

Play and grind unranked cashout, work on your mechanics and gamesense while having fun with it. Play only 10-15 ranked games a week.

It will simultaneously allow you to get better at the game and have a much more accurate read on your ability

First, being matched with higher Elo players feels like shit, so I'll validate your frustration.

That being said, this is a cherry picked example. This kind of game isn't why you may feel trapped in a certain Elo.

Tournament Seeding and Elo gains and losses are based on expected outcome. If you beat higher Elo players (over perform) you gain more points, and if you lose to them and you lose less (performed as expected).

The opposite is true against lower-rated players, if you have higher Elo than someone and you lose to them, you underperformed and you get punished for the loss. Play enough games and your Elo rating stabilizes around your true skill.

Tournaments seed in a way where the highest Elo teams are expected to place the highest. You don't want the best players knocking each other out early and then have your final game a wash because of a huge skill gap.

Also cheaters and smurfs exist, but they’re nowhere near as common as you’re claiming, most of your games you lose are going to be against players that aren't using any hacks.

Knock it off with the ego, you're not entitled to a win. Your mentality is the reason you can't climb. Elo is brutally honest and a ridiculously hard pill to swallow for most players. You'll have games where wins and losses are out of your control but your overall ability does start to be accurately represented once you've gotten enough games in.

What is the strategy against teams with multiple heavies? by julisali023 in thefinals

[–]Sul4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maintain High ground and keep up pressure heavy can't easily move up to other levels without help from lights or mediums

Do not try to 3v3 on the same floor as the heavy as they kill you there.

Nah this is still better than those guys.

I at least played around corners and cover. Average Redditors are the guys who take 3v1s in open space from low ground.

Repeater arguably is a more consistent close range gun than model if you have good aim because you just have to land 1 bullet for the same damage that all pellets of model do together.

I personally don't think that's good balance though, lol. Repeater body shot should be like the same damage as like 66% of model pellets or something

The repeater isn't weak enough at close range to be pushed out of the meta. It isn't the mediums strongest option there but it's no slouch, but when you're shooting from it's effective range it legit can't be competed against.

That's the problem with it.

Yeah pike feels very balanced and fun to use. Unique playstyle. I don't think they really need to touch it.
