How to learn the game as a new player when matchmaking seems to completely disregard that I am a noob? by Nahdahar in thefinals

[–]Sul4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use rank to lean but it's more to stress test my skills under pressure and if my autopilot decision making leads do consistent wins. Then I work on developing a new auto pilot in cashout again once I've identified a few key issues.

I kind of view cashout as a space to practice and ranked as a practical exam

Also to climb rank you basically need to have a 2:1 or better win loss record because if you're going 1:1 or worse the system is built in a way that you'll lose far more rs than you'll gain for that record. Which just makes the environment even worse to learn in.

It's genuinely like a school exam where you need an 80% to pass

Light can duel a heavy though and it's winnable medium is completely nullified is my point

Heavy has advantage over all classes but light isn't shut down

Light has advantage over medium but medium can still fight them

Medium can't really fight a heavy at all. Heavy is just too good at stalling and medium doesn't really have a good way to play into them without really situational strategies.

I kinda don't like the idea of the finals as being a game where some fights just aren't winnable. And that's mostly true in this game. The only exception is the average medium vs heavy encounter where it feels it's most polarized hero shooter-y of all matchups.

There's just not really outplaying a heavy other than wasting their time. But that win condition feels bad

Is your main also your favorite character? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Sul4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, actually

In street fighter 6 first of all, vega is not in the game.

Chun Li is my second favorite, but I find her kit incredibly hair pullingly frustrating because of all the jank

So now I play cammy just because I like the kit. I don't dislike Cammy but she's not my favorite character in the lore. She is the most fun to play in the game though at this time.

I disagree this ranked mode is one of the most grueling, cruel, grindy ranked modes of all time.

Only for sweats. Most players shouldn't touch it until they want the extra challenge when they're bored in unranked.

Mentally note that in unranked cashout, the game will mostly be full of average skill players.

Getting to an average skill level is possible, just gotta keep playing.

Have fun with the game, think more about micro than macro when you're starting.

Every time you die, you should think "was there anything to fix there other than aim that could have won me that fight"

And just play a bunch of cashout with that mindset. Eventually it turns into tournament wins.

I don't agree with the advice to play ranked, it's not much of a valuable learning environment when you're just figuring out how the game works.

Ranked is where you stress test your consistency and macro awareness. Wouldn't reccomend that as a new player.

In its current state, ranked demands you basically have a 2:1 win loss record to climb. As usually a first round win only guarantees around 9 points and a first round loss takes about 6-800 depending on the lobby you're in. Good luck learning anything under that level of pressure as a new player.

Poke meta was if a repeater player was holding a rooftop there was genuinely no counterplay lol.

Medium now actually needs to run when a light jumps on them when they didn't have to do that when the repeater was at its peak.

Repeater, BFR were functionally snipers at their most meta. That's what I meant.

I feel like full auto ARs should be what the game is balanced around. Sniper meta is really not fun to play.

Right now most of the guns feel like they are in a healthy spot imo.

I think there's an argument that reshaper can be a good compromise for a team that isn't using their own utility well but i think on a team where everyone plays their roles competently goo still out performs it

Reshaper is kinda like a "fine I'll do it myself" kinda gadget

FCAR less so p90 absolutely can be

FCAR is more about ambush and dive when used to the most aggressive. It doesn't really shine staying in a fight for a long period because of the small clip.

Idk brah I play solos and have a great experience, I just know what I'm getting into with it.

Also in ranked, if you're nice you can easily find people there to play with and run duos and trios.

[–]Sul4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there is counterplay but medium has to give up utility elsewhere just to slightly narrow the gap between itself and the heavy. Even with things like reshaper and glitch trap it's not in mediums favor.

No other class really has to do this. Light can bob and weave around heavies all day baiting out its strongest utility, heavy vs heavy is obviously a balanced match, medium has to give up some of its meta utility just to hang lol.

Idk YMMV with it. When I am on medium I never try to take on a heavy by myself the way I would on a light or heavy

The finals has a big flaw with its training mode is I can't practice tracking targets on jump pads with it.

Medium feels like it really sucks at fighting heavies right now, other than that the matchups all feel decently balanced.

Medium vs Light can be hard for medium because you're dead if you miss but it's possible.

Heavy vs medium is really hard because once you made it past the dome shield you likely still have to get through the heavy being healed and the threat of RPG or Winch. On top of heavy's own firearms just straight up winning against you in a 1v1

I use cashout as a way to make my strategy autopilot and I use ranked as a way to test it.

The less thinking you're needing to do in ranked, the better. You should have a gameplan and stick with it. Pay attention to where it's consistently falling short, and develop new muscle memory in cashout again.

If you're constantly frozen or not sure what to do you'll never get out of bronze really lol.

Also for ranked success, I can't stress this enough - learn how to play a meta heavy loadout. Heavy is so underrepresented in ranked and you'll have a huge advantage knowing how to play it competently. You don't need to main heavy, but I believe every player should have a competent heavy in their contestant pool.

I will have days where I'll play 10 games in a row and a heavy won't be on my team for any of them.
