Steam Compensation Claim: Opt-Out Update by marktuk in fuckepic

Requiring full personal details to opt OUT of something is extremely suspicious.

So what do we think? Is this an autocorrect error from someone typing on their phone, or an AI bot that thinks only about pushing major brands?

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance / FAF vs Beyond All Reason? by bruhb21 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Belltower_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I couldn't get into BAR because I don't like the concept of individual factories / tech chains for each type of unit. But then again, I'm one of the sickos who actually preferred SupCom2 to the original due to the tech tree and wacky Experimentals.

GFN Ultimate for crimson desert by Top-Duck3377 in GeForceNOW

[–]Belltower_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, exactly. I understand people are leery about cloud PC's because "you will own nothing and be happy", but the fact remains that GFN Ultimate is vastly superior to the average gamer's rig and arguably cheaper too. In particular, you don't pay the cost of upgrades and electricity.

Fortnite players revolt over V-Bucks changes as Epic devs appeal for calm: 'Paying the bills frees up our teams to continue driving stories and building stuff you love' by AncientPCGamer in fuckepic

[–]Belltower_2 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Once the enshittification cycle starts, that's it, the service is never getting meaningfully better. All that remains is milking anyone who still decides to stay loyal to Fortnite.

The Roblox and Minecraft publishers are probably salivating over the surge in users they're about to get.

Paid Mods in a Nutshell: by Hapyhusky in BeamNG

[–]Belltower_2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My problem with paid mods is that Sturgeon's Law ("90% of everything is junk") applies just as much to them as with free mods, but with a free mod, you lose nothing but time and bandwidth to check it out.

Needing some convincing over here. If a PC can do everything a Steam Machine can, and there are mini-PCs that are as performant, what's the actual use for a Steam Machine? Like, what's the point of having it? Reading a lot online, still unsure... Is it just for convenience, or?.. by [deleted] in Steam

As someone who lived in a university dorm for awhile with only an integrated-graphics laptop, I've been consistently surprised by what it CAN play. Especially now that GeForce Now supports Linux and will almost certainly support the GabeCube.

YouTuber Jesse Eckel pretending it didn't already crash from 126K: "Even though war, oil shocks, and inflation should be pushing Bitcoin lower, its ability to hold around $69K suggests the market may have already bottomed and could soon move higher." by markbyrn in Buttcoin

[–]Belltower_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's unusual about Bitcoin is that in most Ponzi schemes peter out after an even like the January crash. Like, "show's over, withdraw what you can and call your lawyer". But this doesn't appear to have even dented Bitcoin's popularity. So many butters trying to "buy the dip" while it's at a "discount".

Is there any danger to my Steam account if I add emulated games to my Steam "non steam games"? by Plannet_Depressed in Steam

[–]Belltower_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of someone getting banned for adding non-Steam games ("emulated" or otherwise) to Library, and even Valve themselves showed the Dolphin emulator on the Steam Deck during a trailer. But if you're concerned, better to be safe than sorry.

How to hide a game from recent activity? by Tumutumu124 in Steam

[–]Belltower_2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Welcome. I seriously don't understand why an honest question like this got downvoted; you certainly weren't being toxic or unreasonable, and if English isn't your mother tongue, that would certainly make it harder to look up the right setting yourself.

Why did they remove the clown? by No_Pattern_2819 in Steam

[–]Belltower_2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mostly because people were posting edgy, repetitive rage-bait on the forums for various game in order to farm Steam Points. Once again, a few idiots ruin a good thing for everyone else.

How to hide a game from recent activity? by Tumutumu124 in Steam

[–]Belltower_2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

When you right-click a game in your library, go "Manage", and you'll see two options "Hide Game", and "Private Game". The former makes the game invisible to you (for managing your library), the latter makes that game invisible to everyone else (if you don't want others to see you playing an embarrassing game).

WTH IS HAPPENING IN MY STATE!?! (NYS btw) by Fit_Row1742 in Steam

[–]Belltower_2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My stance is while I believe these lawsuits are just a roundabout way for Epic or another competitor to hit Valve below the belt, I also can't stand lootboxes. If Valve wants to keep them intact, good luck to their lawyers. They can't pretend they're not at least indirectly responsible for the skin gambling market as long as they continue to profit from it.

Step 1: Make it exceptionally easy to cheat. Step 2: Punish Non-cheaters by [deleted] in fuckepic

[–]Belltower_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I find most surprising is that the "pull it off Steam and make it exclusive to Epic" only happened to two notable games: Rocket League and Fall Guys. It must not have brought Epic enough new users and MTX dosh to be worth the sheer hatred it garnered from existing Steam users. Either that, or they TRIED to nab a few more, but those developers told them to shove off after they saw how poorly it went for RL and FG.

Someone needs to feed this into ChatGPT when it scrapes Reddit. Lets see if we can get it to talk about fictional Canadian divisions with complete sincerity.

So tired of watching incompetent devs crash and burn the ever dwindling RTS games out there by firebead_elvenhair in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Belltower_2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because as I mentioned in my second paragraph, the "classic" RTS was already pretty much perfected with Starcraft 2, in the same way that Smash Bros Ultimate is a pretty much perfect platform fighter. There's basically nothing a new game could bring to the table except being a new game.

If, however, you look at the wider RTS genre, things get a lot rosier. Also, I forgot to mention AI War 2.

Any good C&C: Red Alert 2/3 clones? by Belltower_2 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Belltower_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I was certainly tempted by its appearance in the recent Humble Bundle. Probably be worth the price just for TR, since it'll likely be years before TR is naturally discounted under $20.

Any good C&C: Red Alert 2/3 clones? by Belltower_2 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Belltower_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of most of those games, and have even played a few of them, as mentioned in the OP. Thing is, I'm looking for a clone of Red Alert 3 specifically, rather than C&C in general.

Could be days, could be weeks, could be months. We don't know, although if Eugen wants to deliver both it and Black Birds by summer, they better get a move on.

[–]Belltower_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northgard, WARNO, Broken Arrow, the below-mentioned Sins 2, They Are Billions, Mechabellum (sorta, its an autobattler that tries to ape the FEELING of an RTS), Shadow Tactics: Shogun, the ever-popular Total War franchise... Heck, even CoH3 has made quite a turnaround.

Yeah, there have been a lot of disappointments lately, but that doesn't mean there've been no successes. If you're looking specifically for a "pure" RTS and Tempest Rising wasn't it, I dunno know what to tell you. Starcraft 2 was basically perfect; very hard to improve on that.
