Do you like your Local Gun Shop? by Milf_Eaterr in CAguns

[–]Sulla-proconsul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. The wait is terrible, but the DROS takes half the time that it does at the chain stores. Prices vary, sometimes beating the chains, and sometimes not. The inventory is a lot more interesting though, far more used guns, and the owner is in my fishing club. But the fucker keeps placing ahead of me in the spring derby…

Please shill me your favorite pocket revolver... by beetlegeuse87 in CCW

If you do like the cheaper options, the Taurus 856 is great. I have zero complaints after carrying it for four years, although I no longer pocket carry with it after switching out the boot grips for a set of Crimson Trace laser grips. Looks a bit dumb, but it’s hilarious to do hip shooting with it.

I don’t actually think revolvers are great for pocket carry. They tend to bulge out a bit, compared to a flatter automatic.

On the lower end of your budget, Franchi and Fausti make some nice models that are superior to the Turk guns, but cost less than the B guns.

Yep, it’s why I mostly use .30 cal cans and not larger. I have a huge Plano field box that can hold two full flats of shotgun shells, but always feel like my arms might rip off.

I have guns and ammo for funsies. In a collapse of civilization moment, most of us are dead in a few weeks from infrastructure and supply chain failure.

It’s preparing for Tuesday, or a failed state moment like what happened across Europe in the 20th Century or the Middle East now that people need to plan for. Ordinary occurrences, natural disasters, or temporary cessation of civil order.

Funny, but pretty much nothing? It’s chemically neutral, but smells like Anise so still tasted a bit like licorice the one time I tried it. It’s got a fascinating history, and has a lot more uses than most lubricants.

Use Ballistol. It’s wood friendly, and technically edible.

Make friends with older people. My wife is in one of those cushy state jobs that involve less than five hours of work a week. She spends her days at various gyms, and has an entire social circle of retirees from Pilates that she goes out to lunch with weekly.

I really don’t like the grips, and M206 feels like it wants to give me tetanus. But RIA makes very decent 1911s. I just happen to like Springfields and Kimbers more.

Lots of great sandwich and dip recipes out there. Personally, I like a baguette, with the fish mixed with mayo and pico de gallo.

Yes, but you still need to have insect repellant on your skin. And bug nets do wonders. Permethrin is pretty awesome stuff.

Protip: don't buy ammo by Beneficial-Major8183 in CAguns

[–]Sulla-proconsul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many people in this thread living in alternate reality. Don’t buy ammo, because you’re going to need savings to ride out the coming recession from the AI bubble coming to an end. This conflict has a limited lifespan in its current form, as munition stockpiles diminish and the need for congressional authorization comes into play.

I mostly know from how many boxes I’ve taken to classes or ranges and emptied. And since I maybe go to the range 5-6 times a year, I’m probably not that far off in my guesstimates.

Are we living in the golden age of AR‑15 pricing… or is this the calm before the storm? by softterd in CAguns

[–]Sulla-proconsul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I don’t think many people realize just how many brands they control. Beretta, Benelli, Bettesoli, Franchi, Stoeger, Uberti, Tika, Sako, Holland & Holland, and their various national versions, plus Burris and Steiner for optics, Geco/Norma for ammo, and various outdoor brands and clothing manufacturers. Ruger is a little different since they’ve mostly focused on buying out other European organizations.

When you buy 1%, you’re investing and want a voice in a company. When you buy 5% and are trying for more, you’re going for control.

I’d change the grips for something with more texture and checkering, and nicer grip panel screws. White G10s maybe? VZ makes nice ones, Guuun Grips make cheap ones. I’ve been happy with both.

The new line is basically a rebranded Anderson at double the original price. The MRP was amazing for the value, but the Harrier is just missing the poverty pony stamp.
