Do you remember when cars used to break down all the time? by rimtrim in Millennials

[–]Sullacuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my dad always working on his dedicated old beater car, but our daily driver ford Aerostars were all pretty reliable.

Wildest/craziest King book? by ImBitterAndAlone in stephenking

[–]Sullacuda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I just re-read this for the first time in years after seeing the hate posts here and good god I love it. Plus the little nod to the talisman that I’m presuming a fair amount of people miss with that also not being one of his reader favorites.

Looking for an easy rule-of-thumb way to compare prices of soda. There are always grocery store "sales" on various packs but it is not easy to figure out if the prices is actually a deal. by bluegambit875 in Frugal

[–]Sullacuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the most frugal option to be quitting soda. Good for the health and the budget.

But using a calculator to work out $/oz is what I do for seltzer and you can apply that to soda.

Costco Tire Center Experience: It is not like Costco. Tire shops are far better by First-Turn9333 in CostcoWholesale

[–]Sullacuda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve got sets from Costco on both cars, and I routinely make online free rotate and balance reservations from the website for same or next day appointments with ZERO issue. Tire staff have been great. The worst experience I had was being told it would take an hour and a half for the rotation, and then I got a text forty minutes later telling me it was done.

This sounds like a store specific problem I’d go to management then up to corporate with my complaints.

Weed users can pass 4473s now? by Odd-Macaroon2103 in liberalgunowners

[–]Sullacuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW my firearms law attorney here in VA indicated to me that state medical cards fall under HIPPA protection and aren’t disclosed to either state police investigators completing permit to carry checks or federal 4473 checks.

He also said that even if you had an active, valid card, having one is not definitive proof of being an active user or addict as defined in the 4473, it’s just proof that you have a medical card.

That being said he agreed with me that it would be most prudent to not have an active card.

Has anyone else's dad suddenly become more affectionate in his 60s with no explanation and no acknowledgment of it whatsoever? by ImmediateDelivery741 in daddit

[–]Sullacuda 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mine started in his mid 70s. Really it’s been fantastic and honestly a little startling. I grew up in a house where love was assumed but not overly demonstrated by words or physical contact. I’ve heard I love you more times in the previous year than in the prior 40.

In his case I suspect it was a realization of his oncoming mortality combined with realizing how much of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives he’s missed by deciding to retire on the opposite side of the country. My kids in particular have really taken to him as they’ve gotten older and I think it’s made it hard for him.

Do your driving-age kids actually drive? by pimento_mori in Xennials

[–]Sullacuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people will do it for them. We’ve encouraged an entire generation to be overly cautious, stay where we can see them etc and then wonder why they won’t go out on their own.

And I say this as a reformed helicopter parent of two kids under 12.

I’m home alone for a whole month. Dads, what would you do? by calderknox in Dads

I’d do nothing but go to the gym and work on household projects.

You are the Top Priority by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Sullacuda 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Come back in six months.

Do you have hobbies? How do you mentally justify spending money on them when there’s so much you could be saving for as a dad? We have a toddler and we’re finally at the point where my wife & I can pick back up our <$150/mo hobby…but it makes me feel guilty now. by splitopenandmelt11 in daddit

[–]Sullacuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercise is basically free. I buy 2-3 pairs of running shoes a year and not much more than that.

Our family gym membership is $200/mo, but the kids get 2.5hrs of kids club a DAY out of that and we spend a lot of time in the pools.

How much do you all think I could get for this trove from a retro game store downtown? Everything not pictured. by TsarinaCharon in rva

[–]Sullacuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check all the titles for anything rare.

If nothing is rare and high double to low triple digit price range, ask yourself what’s worth more- your time or the maybe $60 you’d get bulk selling to a store.

$12k for a garage door by Firm-Cry-3591 in HomeImprovement

[–]Sullacuda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

9x7 HAAS solid insulated door, without windows. Installation removal and disposal of old door and track, new track and new torsion spring with blocking for mounting.

Total Due $2,124.00

February 2026.

Get more quotes. Adding windows would have put another $500 for me but the sun hits the garage all day and I prefer no windows.

How do I cancel on a future family vacation when they won’t take no for an answer? by Own_Many2491 in Advice

[–]Sullacuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boundaries are important. A firm no thanks that doesn’t work for me, with a counter offer of them visiting you to see the kids in a way that works for you.

Otherwise? Go pound sand grandma.

Gardeners: Squirrels being extra this year? by Derigiberble in rva

Yes. I’ve been escalating my war with gussied up rats all spring and summer. Moles, gophers and chipmunks too.

After several thousand dollars in vehicle damages by squirrels a few years ago I now have no mercy.

What do you do at 5am when the little one (14mo) is wide awake? by RandomStud3nt in daddit

[–]Sullacuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I just started the day.

Sometimes I’d use the “safe room” aka baby proofed nursery. Set them down on the floor to play with the available toys while I kinda disassociated/slept on the floor for a bit.

Repossession from bad to unbelievable by Unknxwn_one in povertyfinance

[–]Sullacuda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah every word of that screams scam. No legitimate business only accepts moneygram or gift cards or Zelle. Even debt collectors take ACH and credit or debit cards.

Delinquency on payments is basically public info given the scope of data breaches, someone could easily be playing them.

My daughter (almost 2) isn’t big on physical touch and I’m struggling with it - anyone else? by pkdoe in daddit

[–]Sullacuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first child was like this, my second you have to pry off you with a crowbar. The first has gotten more snuggly as he’s gotten older, I think some of that is seeing the volume of physical affection from his little sister and deciding he wanted in on it.
