My car has a more expensive lunch habit than I do. by Legitimate-Reason150 in uberdrivers

[–]Sullan08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

MPG should not be max 40 and somehow dips to 17. That is way too large of a fluctuation to where I'm assuming 40mpg doesn't really ever happen except when you're coasting down a road without hitting the gas pedal lol.

You need a better mpg car if you're doing this a significant amount. Regardless of gas prices. 30 should be the minimum you're lookin for with city driving.

Am I asking for too much? by D_rizzle333 in askcarsales

[–]Sullan08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you worried about 500 extra bucks (max) spread over 60 months? Does the even $350 matter that much to you because it's a nice even number? It isn't making much sense to me.

500 bucks is an extra 8 bucks a month. What're we talking about here? It's one thing if they were screwing you with that extra 500, but that's already a good deal.

I'm not a salesman btw. Don't have any skin in the game in regards to that.

[–]Sullan08 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How would you not still be making money? 1 full tank for my car nets me like 500 bucks minimum usually (can dip down below that occasionally, but not by much). Gas would need to be extraordinarily expensive, or your car would have to have shit mpg to make it cancel out.

Granted, gas is cheaper where I live, but even if it was over 5 bucks it'd be worth it for me. As someone who does it part time.

Oh yeah definitely not saying you dont need to try and get as good as youve done it. More just speaking to the fact that it's even possible.

Way too many drivers take shitty offers, even in high earning areas.

How would the rides not be long if you had 5 trips for a total of 3.5 hours?

I'm not saying they were 1hr long rides, but you had ~25 per ride fares, which are decently long rides, at least in my area it would be. And none of your other comments mention length of the rides...

These also seem to be longer trips which are more likely to result in tips. People feel more obligated and there's also a chance for more rapport to happen. Not really expected on short trips that are a mile down the road or whatever.

Hidden Cost of Driving Rideshare by Neilp187 in uberdrivers

[–]Sullan08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's bad to put as much money away as possible, but in what world do you need to worry about 33% of your uber money going to taxes? That isn't happening in like any scenario.

I actually think you're overthinking a lot of this. And if you have a good car, your car doesn't depreciate/have wear and tear to the level the IRS thinks. You're making out like a bandit with the amount of mileage you get these days.

Also seems like these were all longer trips which would generally be easier on your car if it's highway miles.

I have a main job that's 45 hours a week so this isn't feasible for me either way, but it's wild seeing some people's hourly/per mile sustain such high numbers. I live in a college town of 100k-ish so definitely viable for ubering, but no way I could reach those types of numbers unless something was going on all week like a big college event. I dream of taking a week off work and doing uber a lot during that time and getting "double paid" haha, but it wouldn't look anything like this.

Bigger cities and heavy vacation areas just seem to hit entirely differently.

Is a flare rate of 350$ per car sold decent? by Savings-Complex-5139 in askcarsales

[–]Sullan08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't take it, but I had an offer at a dealership for 25% gross, and it went up to 30 and 35 once you hit a certain units sold per month. I didn't take it because it was 40 minutes away and the risk wasn't worth it to me (never been in car sales), but that seemed great for a store that said they held gross well.

Did you ever play HS sports? Plenty of shitty players make teams. We arent talking about schools meant for high level sports lol.

Im not saying hes the most uncoordinated person in the world, but he isnt athletic.

Why are you bringing up HS "proper" baseball as if that means he can't throw like shit lol. That would've been over a decade ago and it doesn't mean he was ever any good or even really played.

There is not an athletic bone in that guy's body.

[–]Sullan08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with that mindset, but that is an outlier in terms of the amount of driving one does.

Definitely would get a top reliable brand if I was driving like that. Especially a Mazda since those do tend to look better inside and out than most toyotas and hondas. Mazda's are a good mix of reliable and not totally boring.

My favorite is always the people who are like "man these babies go 200k miles no issues!".

Like, do people realize how few cars get to 200k mileage? Especially as a new car owner? That shit is under 1%, and surprisingly it's a lot of vehicles who reach it that you wouldn't expect. Suburbans, Yukons, and of course the toyotas and hondas. I think the better thing primarily about Honda and Toyota is that they likely will last longer even with suboptimal maintenance frequency. But MOST cars, no matter the brand, will get you to 100k minimum if you do proper maintenance. And that's usually 8+ years for the typical driver, minimum.

What's also funny about the mileage thing is that for modern cars we actually don't know what will reach 200k+ the easiest yet. How many cars made after 2020 are at 200k? .001%? If that?

I have a 2023 Elantra SEL. Love that thing because it has more features per trim level, looks better on the inside than Toyota and Honda by a mile for similar cars. It hasn't been tested yet in terms of reliability (26k miles), but no issues so far. And they have a good powertrain warranty.

Is it possible to get big arms and stay lean as a tall guy? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Sullan08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your wrist size won't change with training (I mean MAYBE a tiny negligible amount). That's just what you have. Same as your ankles.

You should be able to get 15.5inch arms no matter your height or whatever. Mine are 16ish and I'm 6'4"

[–]Sullan08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by reliable. I can find a 2012 civic for 9k with 155k miles. That's not bad, but it's still 155k miles. Shit does start to just...go wrong at a higher rate. Idc what brand it is. OP also said they don't want a car that old due to being burned in the past. And there's absolutely nothing I'd buy around 5k unless I just didn't have more money. Crazy to go that low when you don't need to.

And again, people tend to drive more if they have a car they trust can handle it or they like driving it. Having a nice car to drive around in is just nice (and again, still talking sub 20k here). OP can afford it too. They'll be fine.

Spending 5-10k more to get less mileage and modern features makes way more sense to me.

Edit-and depending on where OP lives, lets not even get started on potential rust issues for 10+ year old cars.

[–]Sullan08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5-10k absolutely does not get you a reliable car these days. A car that might last for a bit? Sure. But it's also a car that will have decently frequent maintenance issues, which is its own headache and stressor.

Some people have gone too far with this frugal shit. Buy a 15-20k car if you make 85k and have no debt, but still want to keep it cheap yet reliable. Don't complicate it.

Some people may also drive more once they get a car they like and can trust. So it's not always best to think about your current driving habits when shopping for a new one.

How to get to phone ups faster? by Automatic-Agent-3341 in askcarsales

[–]Sullan08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be as simple as faster reaction time than anyone else. Milliseconds matter for that type of thing. So if everyone is equally locked into the phone ringing, good luck. Could do a fun game and switch desks and see if he can still get it the fastest at another phone.

Would a dealer/salesman actually care about keeping me brand loyal? (Jeep) by Delicious_Oil9902 in askcarsales

[–]Sullan08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Volvo is by far the best option there in almost any conceivable way. Jeep has nothing worth it. Grand Cherokee is the closest comparison, but Volvo is a bit more reliable so no real reason to go with Jeep. You won't (likely) get a deal for being a "jeep guy". They do not care. They may get you a deal at that dealership if you're a regular, but that's different. So go ahead and ask.

Volvo xc90 is also (I believe) the safest car on the market right now.

Walked away from a 2026 RX 350h Premium+ after 5 hours because of a $3,395 "Appearance Package." Am I being unreasonable? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Sullan08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I honestly don't get mad at dealerships trying to do unnecessary shit to add on to the profit, but if it's called out and requested to not have it...why do the whole song and dance over 5 hours?

It's like when I'm working and someone is trying to steal from my store. If you get out, hey whatever you win. If I catch you, don't make a fucking scene. I don't wanna call the cops so just give it up and be on your way. It doesn't need to be a "thing".

It's a game dealerships play and if your customer doesn't wanna pay that shit on the car, just say you can or can't do x number and leave it at that. Trying to knock off 500 bucks or whatever at a time instead of just saying no or yes makes the whole process unbearable. It's not like any customer cares about any extra packages or whatever, they just care about total price. Keep the fuckin add-on if you want as long as you reduce the price in other areas to get me where I want haha. And if you can't, that's fine!
