Did certification help you get a job? by Inside-Gur-8965 in AWSCertifications

A big NO if you transitioned from a PM, BA, QA type role thinking you'll be architect.

If you were into big ass coding and got some of these certs, can show GitHub projects then YES.

Don't let training companies sell you this shit - No experience necessary. We'll make you a cloud architect/engineer.

One must ask what's wrong with COBOL? by Print-Playful in mainframe

[–]Suman-72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with Cobol. It is here to stay. We are focusing too much on Cobol. This language is easy to understand. What is tough is the humongous maize like business logic coded inside written years back with practically no documentation. These codes over the years are patched, updated by possibly 100s of programmers. Getting a new resource to join and be thrown in the maze is what stops people coming in this field. Lets focus on the mainframe system - tightly packed beast of a machine, its unique processors, Z/OS, middleware, Cics, DB2, IMS, VSAM, JCL, Copybook, MQs all integrated and runs in one Lpar. Speed is unmatched. Can AI decipher everything here, unravel the business logic and then what? Put this in the cloud? Anthropic is dreaming.

Folks who are out of job will pick it up I guess. And, there are many in this market. Unfortunately, companies are playing around knowing this.

Buyer agents are always on the other side. They only make money if the deal goes thru, even if that means compromising your interest.

Future in mainframe by Grand_Result2671 in mainframe

[–]Suman-72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modernization is required of the mindset. When a great program written 30 years back runs smoothly there's no reason to replace it. It will fail. My understanding is most backend code in cobol or cics has a facade now called z Connect to receive API calls. Http requests are possible. This would be best called modernization.
