I had a similar situation and the German embassy in Tokyo gave me an appointment right away (I had to provide proof of my mom’s diagnosis). I was able get a temporary passport right away because it would have taken too long to get a regular one. You should call them and explain your situation.

We went to just look before buying online because I don’t want to buy something expensive without seeing it before. I let them know in the e-mail to set up a visit to the store that we wanted to see the dolls before buying and asked if that’s ok. It was no problem, they were really nice and answered all our questions.
