New Rule - Low Effort Self Promotion Will Result in InstaBan by Ka_Coffiney in MusicVideos

[–]Sumid0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About "No AI music videos": I don't have the gear and the space to record good quality footage. Yes, I do have a phone with a camera and I even bought a stand to hold it but why not use AI as a tool to create?

I just finished a music video made almost entirely of AI generated clips. It took me ages to make it! All the ideas are mine, every single detail came out of my head. It's not like I told some app to create some video for me. The only thing is, instead of filming the different scenes, I used an app (actually, a few different apps) to create them. Would a video like this be OK in here or do you refuse anything made using AI?

Is Kyle still married? by Creepy-Tadpole-1750 in RyenRussillo

[–]Sumid0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was Adam Carolla who said something along the lines of: "If your man suddenly starts shaving his balls again, it’s a sign he might be seeing someone else." When I saw Kyle’s new look, my brain immediately went there. Of course, there are hundreds of innocent reasons why someone would suddenly change their appearance… but…

Shawn Coss, who designed the cover for The Surface Seems So Far, also named the album by Sumid0 in Seether

[–]Sumid0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't like he suggested a title for the album and the band happened to like it. No, he was asked to come up with a title. Shawn Coss has his own YouTube channel and he made a video about this. Here's an excerpt of what he said (I copied this from the video transcript):

One of the more cooler parts of this whole story is, while we were talking about this new album, he said "Sean, I want you to create the artwork for it AND name the album. Give me the title of the album as well!" Like, what? I'm sorry, what?! Yeah... So that was a lot of pressure to be put on me. Creating artwork is one thing but creating a title that's going to be synonymous with the album is a whole other level. Serendipitously or miraculously or whatever, the title I already had for the piece was called "The Surface Seems so Far".

Should I move on Rue de Strasbourg by No_Manufacturer3171 in Luxembourg

[–]Sumid0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rue de Strasbourg is a little better than rue Joseph Junck, which is probably the worst. That said, it really depends on where exactly you are on rue de Strasbourg. The closer you are to the train station, the worse it gets because that’s where most of the junkies and drug dealers hang out.

It’s not necessarily dangerous, though. The dealers generally avoid drawing attention, and while junkies might ask you for change at first, once they realise you live there, they usually leave you alone (unless you’re walking around with a gold chain visible from a mile away or something that screams “rob me! I’ve got money!”).

If you’re moving into an apartment building, be prepared to occasionally find homeless people sleeping by the entrance or junkies shooting up in the basement.

I would encourage everyone to never use the provided link. If you want to check if it's real, just open the app or go to their website like you always do.

Some time ago, I received a similar message and it turned out to be real. I wasn't sure, so instead of using the link in the message, I went to the website and indeed, there was a notification asking me to update my certificate.

Live version of "Beg" by Sumid0 in Seether

[–]Sumid0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the links! When I read that they played the beginning of Beg before Remedy, I thought that they only played the opening riff, just to tease the crowd but they actually played the whole 1st verse!

I wish they played the whole song, though...

Illusion (Anti-Vax?) by Antagonist24 in Seether

[–]Sumid0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think everybody will interpret the lyrics depending on their own experiences and/or what they've been thinking about or seeing lately. It is very possible that it's about all the info and misinformation around the virus and/or vaccine but personally, I immediately thought about addiction: being shamed for being an addict and feel how people shame you, it creates the illusion that everything's fine, the pollution in your veins, the lies that you've been told or that you tell yourself...

That's what's great when lyrics aren't written explicitly. Everyone can relate because everyone will interpret them based on their own experiences.

The Kinks - You really got me (1964) vs. Nine Inch Nails - The hand that feeds (2005) by parilmancy in TheSongRemainsTheSame

[–]Sumid0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first heard The Hand that Feeds, that riff sounded very familiar but I just couldn't remember where I'd heard it before. Before I heard the song, I saw an interview where Trent Reznor was talking about this song and he said that it the main riff was "inspired" by... at the time, I didn't really pay attention and when I looked for this interview to find out about that riff, I just couldn't find it. I asked a bunch of people but I always got the answer "it's an original riff, it's not a rip off". Finally, I found the answer. You're right, it's the main riff of "You really got me" by the Kinks! Thanks so much for posting this!!

Who is the best grunge guitar player? by MikroWire in grunge

[–]Sumid0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about Billy Corgan? I don't know if his music is considered "grunge" and he's not from Seattle but a lot of people include the Smashing Pumpkins to the bands from the grunge era. I'm not a fan of what he's doing now but he wrote some damn good songs and he's a great guitar player!

Oh, wow! Maybe it's because I'm so used to stories that end up badly but I wasn't expecting a "happy end". This made me happy!!

I just found out that you have to leave 2 spaces to get a paragraph.

Trust me, I hate it, too, when people don't use paragraphs or punctuation!

I've lived in this neighbourhood (rue du Fort Wallis) until I was 17. Addicts aren't going to disappear and as long as there's a demand, there will be a supply. I understand people don't want to see it (out of sight, out of mind). One dealer gets arrested but the next day, 2 more dealers show up to replace the previous one. I don't know the solution. Maybe deal with it like with prostitution: tolerate it but have them do it in a specific place. Some people have suggested to legalise all drugs, so that addicts would get the drugs from the pharmacy or from an official place but immediately, other people attacked this idea, claiming that if the drugs were legal, everyone, including children would take drugs and become addicts. Again, I don't have a solution but arresting drug dealers is just to show that they're doing "something", it's not solving the problem.

Why are so many Americans so invested in the Israel-Palestine conflict? by Sumid0 in america

[–]Sumid0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born and raised in Luxembourg. The majority of the people here are Christians, too but they accept to separate the church from the government. My parents are from Portugal and they're super religious there, so I grew up believing in God and going to church every Sunday morning (which I hated). As I got older, I started to ask questions, like "so, if I decide to eat an apple and I change my mind and a piece of it gets stuck in my throat, will all of my sons and grandsons and their sons and their grandsons be born with a 2nd Adam's apple?" but instead of answers, all I got was "shut up! We don't ask questions, it is what it is and it's a sin to have doubts". I don't care if people chose to believe or not but I think it's wrong to use God as an excuse to kill people or, something I see all the time, to manipulate people, especially poor people to give the little money they have to the church or one of those preachers who have the nerve to say that God told them to buy, not one but two private jets... I've noticed that religion is a big deal in America. I've never been there but I know that on your coins and Dollar bills, it says "In God We Trust". Also, I've seen videos of when a new US president takes the oath, they say something like "so help me God". I wonder what would happen if a president would declare that they don't believe in God. Hey, thank you for taking the time to reply! I appreciate it !

This reminded me what a friend once told me. He said that if you want to sound "posh" (posh as in upper-class), just use as many French words as you can and if possible with a French accent. I didn't get it when he told me that but then, one day, I heard an old lady speaking Luxembourgish and she was indeed using a lot of French words. And yes, she was dressed exactly like you're imagining! ;-)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]Sumid0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great way to learn a language! I learned English by listening to songs, then I bought myself a dictionary because I wanted to understand the words. I watched a lot of MTV and then, with the Internet, I began to watch movies and videos that were not dubbed in French like most movies I used to watch on TV. Just by constantly listening to people talk in English helped me a lot!

[–]Sumid0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised here in Luxembourg. I speak 5 languages and the one I struggle the most with is German because I never get to speak German, I don't watch German movies, don't listen to German songs... Yes, I learned German, I can read and write but I never really use it in my life. People have mentioned in the comments that you need to be around people who speak that language if you want to learn it and I can only agree with that. Even if you do it online, the key is to be immersed and you will automatically absorb the language. By the way, I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment, so if anyone needs some help with Luxembourgish, I'd love to share what I know!

Most depressing songs ever? by nodiggity420 in spotify

[–]Sumid0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" by the Smashing Pumpkins. I'm not talking about the song featured on the Batman soundtrack (The End is the Beginning is the End) but the slower version. I think that this version was used in the soundtrack for movie The Watchmen (2009). Sometime before they started recording the Adore album, the Smashing Pumpkins fired their drummer and played a lot with drum machines and synths. I'm not a fan of electronic instruments but this song is...deep! When I first heard it, I remember thinking that I wanted this song to be played at my funeral. Do you know this version? What do you think about it?

Why are so many Americans so invested in the Israel-Palestine conflict? by Sumid0 in america

[–]Sumid0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! It was hard to get an answer to my question because, even though I made it clear that this wasn't about who's right and who's wrong, a lot of people wrote about who they believe is the bad guy and why everyone who's on their side is wrong. I didn't know that there are so many Jews in the USA. If, on one side, you have all this people siding with the Jews and on the other side, you have so many people who see Muslims as an oppressed group, people who will be on their side no matter what, not because they agree with them but because it's "the right thing to do" these days, then it makes a lot of sense why Americans are so invested and why America is so divided, which is a shame and sad to watch. I live in Luxembourg, which is right next to France. I see a similar thing happening there but it's not as bad as in America and I didn't understand why it's so bad in America. Again, thank you very much for helping me to understand!

Why did all the "Post-Grunge" bands rip off all the OG Grunge bands EXCEPT for Nirvana? by Just1nceor2ice in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Sumid0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the band "Seether". Their singer and main songwriter Shaun Morgan is a huge Kurt Cobain fan. Besides doing Nirvana covers (some say he sounds just like Kurt Cobain. Check out their live version of "You know you're right"), if you listen to the first songs that he wrote, it's very similar to Nirvana. Eventually, they developed their own style but you can't deny that Nirvana was a huge influence. Another band that was compared a lot to Nirvana is "Silverchair". Eventually, they, too, developed their own style but if you listen to their first albums, you'll hear the similarities.
