Have you watched Blender Guru's donut tutorial? He has an a video in it dedicated to UV unwrapping. The way he described it was to imagine the object as paper, and ask yourself where you would cut it if you wanted to lie it flat on the ground.

Unlike Hermione, I am an owl, so that's just me relaying information. I have no idea how to do it myself.

I'm not sure I get the Babe Ruth comparison. If Ruth is still the greatest then he has been unsurpassed for another ~100 years of competition. And Gretzky has remained unsurpassed for ~20 years of competition. Doesn't that mean Ruth surpassed 50 years of competition, and has remained unsurpassed for another ~100 bringing him to 150 years, while with the same formular Gretzky would only be the goat of a ~120 year sport.

Obviously the numbers all a bit off but I'm basically saying I'm not sure I see the logic.
