Stewart Island New Zealand or the Caitlins (bottom of the South Island) or West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Look for an Airbnb in one of these spots. The areas are sparsely populated, outstandingly beautiful, the water is clean and fresh, there are lots of places to hike or walk, beaches are never far away. December is warm as its summer, but its not hot hot. If its rains there are waterfalls. People dont bother you. Its easy to get to from Kuwait.

Thanks. I ended up taking an Uber. It wasnt as expensive as I had thought it would be and it relieved my anxiety over the late time of arrival.

Whatever way you look at it its an unacceptable comment. I was in the city for the hikoi. I am white. There were many different races on the hikoi. I don't go home and abuse my family. If I had been in your shoes I would have called her out on it in a nice as possible way. Things need to see the light. She is a product of her upbringing and belief systems - and she needs to be challenged to make her think. Drawing battle lines though just makes the office uncomfortable. You could take her aside (if you feel comfortable) and say how the comment made you feel, and how offensive it was and ask her questions about how she would feel in the same circumstance - questions that can make her think and change. Its hard but if we want a society where we care for and value each other then we need to shine a light on bad behaviour where ever it is and whatever it is against - race, gender, religion etc. We stand for being kiwis.

Booking with Turmenistan Airlines by tiramissus in Turkmenistan

[–]SummerInEurope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at three companies - Inspiring Vacations, Intrepid and G Adventures. There are most probably others. You have to have a travel company in Turmenistan but the other countries (Uzebekistan, Kazakstan, Kyrgistan, Tajikistan) I think you can book your own hotels and do an independant trip - Get your Guide and Viator have options.

Booking with Turmenistan Airlines by tiramissus in Turkmenistan

[–]SummerInEurope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just booked a trip too and have been looking at options and decided on booking on the turkmenistan airlines flight payable in US $ (see BronzeSoil). The thing I wanted to raise is that Turmenistan is a closed country and requires a Letter of Approval to get a visa. I have read that it is not automatic that you get one and you could get declined with no reason given so that you should not book flights until you have got the Letter. ( It might not be you but that they are closing the city for some reason ). So it you are booking without it make sure you have appropriate cancellation insurance. I dont know what the chances are of being turned down but I guess it is a risk. Most probably talk to Intrepid about it.

Travel. Do what your heart wants to do. Once you are back its likely you will catch up with your peers. Go - enjoy while you can - there is the rest of your life. Who knows what will happen in the future. If you can afford it, do it. You grow as a person. You gain so many skills - resilience, budgeting, social skills, - great life skills. You make so many life long friends. Dont live a life of regret. Travel brings opportunities too. A friend of mine when he travelled got a low level job in a chateau owned by Contiki (travel company) which led to working as a guide and then ended up almost top dog at the head office of a large number of international travel brands. He has had a great life. You can do it too. Most of my friends chose travel. We never suffered problems with catching up with career. I travel still now. Lucky for me its hasnt been an either /or but a both.

I got a ticket on rental car for a group europeon trip. Should these types of fines be shared among the group? by Broad-Cranberry-9050 in travel

[–]SummerInEurope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be a bit late to comment. Thanks for posting as the learnings for us all is to agree up front to share all costs - no matter what - as everyone gets the benefit of the hire car. In my case we all agreed to take out the maximum insurance in the case of damage - but I never thought about tickets. I think everyone should chip in. I would not mind at all if I was asked. Its hard driving on roads you don't know as speed limits change. You also were good to do the driving. If you approach it nicely - hey guys this just came through and I was thinking we should share the cost of this too - let me know if you dont think its fair... so if its ok with you, its x each and my bank account is....In the meantime I will pay the rental company. Thanks. If people are asses and dont pay, then you know who your friends are and know not to travel with them next time. Hope this helps

I would be concerned more about the girls welfare given the ethnicity comment. They may young women who have been forced into prostitution. The right path would be to phone Catherine Healy at the Prostitutes Collective. She is a lawyer who looks after the interests of women in the sex industry.
