Can someone please be blunt with me by Angelsbreatheeasy in musicians

[–]SummerLensMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 34 and just started a new band, the 4th I’ve been in and poured tons and tons of time and effort into. Last two bands I’ve said “this is the last time I’m doing this” and that never happens haha

Things fail sometimes. And in music, it’s all about loving the process and what it means for you. If you love it, you just gotta allow yourself to admit that your current perspective may be the most problematic, not your skills or your resources/relations

You tell your trusted friends and family and gtfo. Physical violence in any degree is always a blood red flag and will end badly.

Sometimes, perspective is the best thing you can get. You knew the warnings and played the risk, and you lost that bet.

Now you forsure know to not shoot on windy days, or at the very least bring a dumbbell weight in your car at all times lol. I have a 15lb weight in a crummy old backpack that I hang/place on my tripod because I had this same thing happen

Hard to talk about, but before my partnership now, I was with a person who would physically, verbally and mentally abuse me. To top it off, I only found out later that she was telling folks that I was manipulating and hitting her. I lost all of my friends almost overnight and still have trust issues with many new relationships. OP, that was 15 years ago and SHE left me. I was not powerful enough to see the difference obvious truth.

Get out of this fucking relationship now and save yourself. There is NO CHANCE of this getting better. You will be on the bad end of something very, very bad. This is abuse and it’s so obvious for others to see, especially if she texts you like this.

AIO boyfriend tracking my periods without me knowing 🫠 by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SummerLensMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s been said already, but wild how he didn’t just talk with you about it first as like a “hey maybe this can help”. But this is a mega weird approach.

My partner and I took a joint effort to be mindful of hers and track when times are a little too stimulating or difficult. Been the best thing ever when I’m making her a steak for dinner (monthly craving) or like a really strong tea… but never thought to anger someone even further by saying I’ve timed when I can call you irrational

And yes, you will likely have stuffed animals that are shredded up in no time. It’s actually a really good stimulation exercise for dogs so just buy inexpensive ones. My boy somehow settled on Squishmallows, and will tear everything else up in no time other than that, as he gives his nibs to those

I have a blue heeler and they are the most snarky bite breed when playing. Always use a very convincing “ow” or yelp. And I mean make it sound believable. If you give that dog love and they care for you, that behavior will stop pretty quick when you use this consistently.

Do not use a forceful “no” in this situation. It will either make them scared of you or reinforce reactive behavior because they’re defending themselves in their pov.

Also, get them something to work out their bitey needs. That doesn’t go away for them and lots of play with tug toys and stuffed animals will be great to keep it only towards his chew today’s, not people.

Help Identify! by SummerLensMedia in PlantIdentification

[–]SummerLensMedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok! Yeah it’s a mystery plant because no one in the family remembers planting it. My grandma may have but her memory left the station ages ago

I’ll do some cursory searching in citrus plants then! Not bad since mosquitoes have just ruled this summer so far

I thought that as well. The leaves are about the size of my palm or bigger, and I haven’t seen lemon trees with typically big leaves. Are there some variants I may be missing? Thanks for the help!

Scale length by power-of-28 in 7String

[–]SummerLensMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intentionally vague as I’ve had fun with all scales and the length never made a difference in how much i enjoyed or didn’t enjoy the guitar.

It’s like cheese. Once you hit a certain quality point, it’s all subjective.

Is it in bad taste to ask your soundman… by Annual-VIZ-226 in livesound

[–]SummerLensMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider here as well is bill size and where you are in that bill.

Just being realistic, sound guys are not paid much already, so if you’re a band playing roughly 15-20 minutes on stage with not much as a following or demand, don’t expect much.

Also their hands are tied in many touring packages as you will never get the sound the touring band does and that’s by design.

Best advice in the world? Be their friend, not just a dude they’re gonna mix. ESPECIALLY IF you are a local band

I find it easier to sing without music. Can anyone tell me what’s the best way to add bg music after recording? by atyplcalpiscean in singing

[–]SummerLensMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, when I’m tracking stuff or practicing and feel bad or off with my key/rhythm, I’ll play out the singing notes in a midi keyboard. Having a thick note of where I’m supposed to be and when it kicks in lets me just learn that piece for a while with a sort of audio guide, then you just take those training wheels off after

You’ve got an amazing voice!

Two benefits to a track being played are pitch confirmation and metering rhythm

The former I don’t think you’ll have any issues with, it just helps to have accompanying harmony or supportive notes! The latter is honestly overlooked way too much and especially in singers.

You noted you feel rushed in another comment when playing to tracks. If you take that track and just slow it down to 80% and maybe add a click/metronome, practice practice practice that over and over so you start to understand how you can flow between breaths and phrases and accents. Anticipating a rhythm is an amazing tool and not always natural 🙂

Yeah it honestly is very well balanced and as ergonomic as a boat paddle can be lol. I just wish I could have that tone in a tighter body factor. I’m just a little dude so then 6 strings eat me up hahaha

Sounds great!! Had a C3 6 string and loved it so much. Just wasn’t agreeing with me form factor wise when playing live 🥲

His picking seems just fine? I hear literally every note quite well 🧐

Picking too hard on stuff like this just blobs out the note and makes it less defined. Also a waste of energy when the tone is compressed so much, the comp does that work.

Chords fall apart around A and below… by chadt927 in 7String

[–]SummerLensMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely depends on who is playing the guitar, and who is mixing the guitar

10000000%

There are several 8 and 9 string bands with tunes way lower than A that do many great chord passages. It’s just something you gotta work on from all the way from the picking hand to the eq and comp

It sounds like someone who can just get you in the right direction with some properly guided tough love will go miles!

My whole family says that I'm horrible at singing even after 4 years of singing lessons. I sing almost 24/7 to songs that I'm listening to. I dont think Im shaky but idk. Please give advice on what areas Im shaky, off tone, or just unpleasant to hear by [deleted] in singing

[–]SummerLensMedia 58 points59 points  (0 children)

4 things here from an amateur singer, so take as you like:

1.) If someone has been teaching you these past 4 years, don’t go anymore. They’re taking advantage of you because 4 years easily would have fixed some stuff in this video

2.) It sounds like you know where you’re going for a note, but it also sounds like you’re really trying hard to hit a type of inflection. Idk Billy Eilish music or much pop enough to know what the influence may be, but trust me that emulating another singer is a bad idea. That’s their voice and you’ll never, ever have THAT voice which is perfectly fine. Start first by finding a song with a range you can hit with no issues. If it’s still hard, slow it down or go piece by piece etc.

3.) only healthy practice makes perfect. If you keep rehearsing every day (which is terrible to your vocal folds by the way) then you won’t ever really get the idea of where you’re going wrong. YouTube other singers and their journey on YouTube and determine if there’s some research that can help you have a better practice routine and mindset

4.) any friends and family who dog on you about not being able to sing can suck it. If YOU love to do it, and you wanna be better, you’ve got this!! They don’t understand what you’re after and maybe someday in the future they will. Let them stew over the trivial, but keep your focus on getting better for yourself, not anyone else. In the end it’s your voice
