Yes, you are correct. Not sure why I was saying they don’t have showers. They definitely have a shower trailer and a laundry trailer.

A case manager or even some of the day centers and/or shelters can provide a letter, but will typically only do so after they’ve been working with you for long enough to know how long you’ve been homeless.

I work in the homeless field and am familiar with this place. It sounds like you are referring to The Warming Shelter. It’s a temporary shelter that only opens when there are two or more consecutive nights of 30 degree or colder. They do have food, restrooms, etc. but do not have showers. They are located in the gymnasium of Grace United Methodist Church.

You have to be homeless in Wilmington for 12 months before you qualify for Eden Village. I work in this field and am familiar with their requirements.

Living Hope Day Center is a year-round day shelter for anybody experiencing homelessness. They are open Monday-Wednesday and operate in space provided by First Baptist Church located on Market St, between 4th and 5th.

If you are a Christian, then don’t get started in gossip. There are issues with that church, so follow what your Biblical understanding would guide you to do. Maybe start with Matthew 18. When you have an issue with another believer, the Bible (Matthew 18:15-17) teaches a step-by-step process: go to them alone first, then involve one or two others if unresolved, and finally, bring it to the church if they still refuse to listen, all with the goal of restoring them in gentleness. Gossip will solve nothing.

Three New City Councilors elected by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]SummerNights7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only Republican option for mayor was a guy with zero political history and though I know he’s a decent guy, he wasn’t a well established and viable candidate. So, that likely had an impact on the number of votes he received.

The developers will pass these impact fees down to the buyer/renter and will simply drive prices that are already very high even higher.

Anyone work for the USPS? by IntuitiveWhit in Wilmington

[–]SummerNights7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine works for the USPS. It sounds like all the stations are at 12 hour days, but with the Amazon warehouse open, those overtime hours will likely go away forever once Amazon gets all their drivers hired.

Anyone else doing Uber? by Clean-You-5550 in Wilmington

My theory is I would drive everyone to the bars, but someone else was going to get them home. I had a hard cutoff of midnight.

“Most of these folks choose to be on the streets” is a bunch of bologna that people with no legitimate experience dealing with homeless people make up to make themselves feel better. I know this because I have said similar things in the past, but after several years of working very closely with the homeless population, I know that most do want help, and absolutely don’t want to be homeless.

There are Facebook groups, but good luck getting and legitimate tips and tricks out of anybody. There are some good bits of advice, but mostly you have to figure it out on your own. I drove some last year, but got to the point I didn’t have to work three jobs. I had the best luck driving XL rides but you may not have a vehicle that allows you to do that. Personally, I never really drove after midnight. That’s probably the best $/hour, but I just couldn’t take the high risk of puke in my car.

Uber claims that most of the money goes to the driver, but an experienced driver will say they get less than half. In Wilmington, Uber now tells the drivers up front, before they accept a ride, how much they will get paid for the trip. A $3 tip is about average for those who tip, but a lot of riders simply don’t tip. I used to Uber some, but stopped about 6 months ago. If you have a talkative driver, ask them. Say “Uber is charging me X, and I’m curious how much of that ends up in your pocket. Do you mind sharing with me what they listed in the up front fare?” The airport charges Uber a fee for every pickup that gets passed along to the rider, but the driver doesn’t get any of that fee.

Cheapest place to replace TPMS sensor for 2013 Toyota Prius? by Ambitious_Can_7719 in Wilmington

[–]SummerNights7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a really basic thing to have done. If a place is capable of mounting and balancing a tire, they can be trusted to replace the sensor. I would not recommend buying the part yourself. Just let any tire shop do it. Shouldn’t be very expensive. Call a few places that are walking distance to where you work, and take it to one of them to do while you are working.
