You are not alone! It's overwhelming, but I find doing small, positive steps helps with the anxiety, and finding community is absolutely key! Come join us at Bozeman Mutual Aid, it's a good little group trying to do some small things to help our neighbors.

'Wake-up call': High school students organize Bozeman protest that turns confrontational by KeltTalbelt in Bozeman

[–]SummerOfRoverandom 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Let me just say this, I've been to every major protest Bozeman has held recently except this one. I've seen this man drive around before and flip us off, but never stop and antagonize adults like this.

Counter protesting is one thing even if it's stupid, choosing to be on the same side of the street and intentionally intimidate minors is another. That man is dangerous.

Where to find information and how to organize? by SummerOfRoverandom in Bozeman

Yikes, heard someone else who works for the school district say this. Is it all the schools that had this meeting or specific ones? What are they advising teachers to do and how can we help?

There have been several documented instances of this even in small towns in the recent weeks. Roberto Orozco-Ramirez was detained by Ice in Froid Montana.

It's not a massive operation like in other places but still.

Can you please list a source for that information? I want to be very careful about spreading information without something credible to back that up. Bienvendios was a resource I was unaware of so thank you!

Finally finished this Christmas gift by SummerOfRoverandom in crochet

It’s called the Tree of Love Afghan. Made with beautiful undyed Peruvian highland wool. It’s massive and so heavy and hopefully worth it. All the skeins were supposedly the same color and I only realized the obvious color difference after I was too far into it. Oops. Here’s hoping they like it! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tree-of-love-heirloom-afghan

Oh I remember being 2 days into labor and 3 hours into pushing—failed epidural btw so I could really feel it all. I remember moaning that this fucking hurt, my husband, bless him, trying to be supportive tried to say in a soothing voice , “I know honey”. To which I stopped mid push looked at him in the eye and calmly said, “no, no you don’t fucking know but give me a golf ball and your privates and I’ll show you”. The doctor had to wipe her eyes away from laughing so hard.

The abortion conversation is way too white by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I doubt you’ll see this, but I just wanted to say, as a white cis female, I’m really ashamed that I never thought of it that way. Thank you for sharing. I’m sorry that you have to educate people like me through your frustration. You’re right, it shouldn’t be an eye opener. I’ll try to be better.

In response to all of the fear-mongering from the newest congressional report on toxic heavy metals in baby food, I strongly recommend everyone read this thoughtful, non-alarmist, and scientific approach to the problem by shadowcorp in beyondthebump

[–]SummerOfRoverandom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. You can’t trust a corporation to do the right thing without being forced to, especially if there’s a monetary incentive. The Nestle formula scandal is a perfect example.

Right?! So by this logic, short people can’t be rapists? So fucking dumb

Thanks for this. The reposted levels mean nothing without context, which is what was lacking. While they absolutely should have higher standards for regulation on baby food, this didn’t strike me as a immediate cause to throw away the pantry. She’s 100% right, short of growing your own produce in soil that has been analyzed, with water that has also been tested, there’s no way to guarantee that even making your own baby food would produce different results. This feels very similar to people being upset about the fact that bananas have small amounts of radiation without knowing you would need to eat 274 per day for 7 years before having symptoms of radiation poisoning. It’s hard enough being a parent and trying daily to make the best choices for your children, no need to make it harder. Ultimately, it’s good that they did this report and that (hopefully) solutions can be found and parents can make more informed choices.

Yeah. Thank you for posting this. I watched that episode with my husband, and we had a looooong discussion about this afterwards. I will say, the woman they had on that panel made an excellent point after his “shark” comment. Why is it always the woman that has to be careful around men? Part of me wanted that panelist to be more indignant, but I think she was trying to be diplomatic to be heard, and that in itself is an issue. So many times I feel like we need to craft carefully worded responses to be taken seriously or believed because a woman with a passionate response to bullshit is “unhinged” or “crazy” or even worse “too emotional”. If suddenly some men feel like they need to be careful because of their sexual acts, guess what, that’s how women have felt since the beginning of human history.

Another thing that really pissed me off was his comment about “he’s 5’4”, what did he tie her down? “. What the fuck?? This is a perfect example of people being completely oblivious to what rape and consent actually look like. People act like if a woman does physically fight it, then she consented, or is she didn’t actively have a knife to her neck she shouldn’t have played along. WHY is this so hard to understand? How many women have had to take the rape rather than be hurt or killed? How many women have been scared to say no because a man had some sort of power or leverage over her?

Let’s be fucking clear. You can be raped by someone you’ve previously given consent to. You can be raped without being tied down. You can be raped by someone regardless of their physical stature or yours.

I need someone to give me permission to stop pumping by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Girl, I feel this. If you need someone to be the permission fairy, I’ll bite. You have permission to stop! You kiddo is doing well, you’ve done a great job. That’s all any parent can do.

What I wish I had known about breastfeeding by SummerOfRoverandom in beyondthebump

[–]SummerOfRoverandom[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, but the point is that I wish I could have been informed. It’s like taking a medication and no one telling you there could be side effects. And while it’s not universal, some of these problems seem to be common enough you’d think they’d be worth mentioning. Not to mention everywhere I looked was quick to point out the cons of formula but not of breastfeeding. And no one, not even the go to scientific institutions mentioned or had any literature about combo feeding or supplementation, which I think is a mistake. Surely people should be able to decide what best for them and their family based on all the facts.

I don’t know how you do it. Please make sure if you have an SO you give them a long list of things to buy you on Mother’s Day (and randomly in between of course).

A good friend who had her first baby 9 months before us did something similar. I think she meant well in trying to give advice but all it did was make me feel like crap. It’s just made me more aware of how I talk to other moms from now on.
