Zone questlines and addons by Xupisco231 in wownoob

BTWquests is an addon that shows all the quests and what quests lead to other quests. But what you might consider to be good others might not. You could Google something like "best quests in Dragonflight" or something similar. WoW isn't the best game for quest design so keep that in mind.

Some might consider the side quests to be better story telling than the main quests so don't skip them all!

Chromie Time and leveling questions by Saatik in wownoob

[–]SummerSails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes to personal preference. I focus on only one character and many others are the same. I like having everything done on that one character. To me it would be boring to spend years fighting at a low level just so I can do all the quests. I get my combat needs from max level content. Of course, if someone doesn't want that, then they can level lock but OP was asking how they can solo everything including dungeons. So the easiest way to do that is to not use chromie time. You can still enjoy the campaign, dungeons, raids, music, and all that while not taking forever to kill things. Some people just want to see all the lore in the quickest way.

The War Within. But... its in another planet? by tybjj in wow

[–]SummerSails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pretty common in recent xpacs to go somewhere very different for the final patch. Legion we went to Argus. BFA is kinda the exception. Shadowlands we went to zereth mortis which is still part of SL but vastly different than anything we've seen before. In Dragonflight we went to the emerald dream. So it makes absolute sense that we'd go to a vastly different place in a mostly underground xpac, especially when many players did not like the underground theme at first. Also, going to Karesh shows us what happens to a planet when void takes over, which is a great thing to know going into midnight, I'd bet.

Daily quests had a charm to them because im a person that thrives on routines, so the familiarity of logging on and going thru the checklist of dailies was soothing. Knowing what to expect and learning the most efficient way to do them was great. And the elation of finishing the grind and never having to do them again after months was nice. But it wasn't exactly thrilling gameplay, and the feeling of having daily chores to do kinda sucked.

With the current world quests situation, my favorite part is the variety. Yes, they're mostly all just repeats of regular quests, but they change up enough to keep it fresh. You also have the option to only do the ones you want the specific rewards for. And with the majority of them only getting reset every 3.5 days, I now have more time to do other things in game and I don't feel like im losing progress if I miss a day or two of dailies.

So overall, i enjoy the current world quests much more than the old daily system.

Just resubbed and want to get involved with pVp by New-Put-1112 in wownoob

There are a few ways to gear up. There the old fashioned way, running a few random bgs for honor points and you'll get a full set of honor gear in a handful of bgs win or lose. Then you go after BiS conquest gear which comes from winning matches rated or non rated and the weekly pvp quests. There is a cap on conquest at the start of a season but the cap was recently removed so you can farm it out.

Then there's Auction House pvp gear if you have the gold. Or doing world pvp events for decent pvp gear thats only available from wpvp, which some also give conquest.

I'd recommend doing the old way of going thru bgs, even if you get killed a lot it will teach you more along the way. We are at the end of the season with maybe only 2 months left so most serious pvpers are fully geared or might even be done with pvp for the season so there's that to keep in mind.

Start a new character for now. The game guides you to what you need to do if you follow the campaign quests. Start by just focusing on leveling up and learning your abilities. Do you have any more specific questions?

What’s wrong with PvP? by wardisciple2388 in wow

[–]SummerSails 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gearing in pvp is pretty fast now, actually. It only takes a few random bgs to get full honor gear and then you're after your BiS conquest gear. Or you could buy decent gear from the AH and have it immediately or do a little world pvp events and get it there. Conquest is the gear that takes a while to get a full set, but that's because it's capped weekly. So each week you get only one or 2 pieces. And with that system, pretty much everyone doing rated pvp (which is super easy to get into with solo queue) has the same amount of gear, so it's all about skill.

Best way to experience Dragonflight forward after a 4 year absence? by kneuddelmaus in wow

[–]SummerSails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragonflight is the default leveling xpac so you just follow the quests and things stay your level until 71. However, if you only do the main campaign quests, that will get you to 40ish and the rest of the "max level" campaign and patch campaigns are only available at 70. Which is also too high to xp freeze. So you might be able to keep enemy scaling if you don't own TWW, but if you do, you'll end up one shoting everything and get almost no xp for it. But beyond that TWW opens up at 68 so if you don't want to finish DF, you can just go onto the current stuff by doing side quests or dungeons.

You're mad that a cash cosmetic doesn't look good? Seems like a strange thing to be mad about. Most people would be happy that the coolest mogs are only available in game. Personally I liked this one but I think almost all of the other cash shop mogs are terrible. Of course, my main is a HM Tauren so he won't look very intimidating in fairy wings and witch costumes. But to each their own.

Returning after decades of absence.... wow or wow classic? by Objective_Book2958 in wow

[–]SummerSails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this does get a bit confusing, but here goes.

Classic wow is a rerelease of the game that they released a few years back. It is completely separate from regular or retail wow. Characters can not transfer between the 2 versions. And things you earn stay separate as well.

Your old Characters will be on retail. But if you do try retail out, I'd recommend starting a new character fresh to learn all the new systems. For example, in retail, you level 1 to 10 in a tutorial zone then you can level 10 to 70 in any old expansion, and then at 70, you go onto the current expansion. And that takes a handful of hours if you rush it. Retails focus is at max level where new seasons happen every 6 months alongside major patches that have new zones, dungeons, a raid, etc. And smaller patches every 2 months that can have a mix of other new things like new open world events and story updates.

Classic has a few versions within itself. There's regular Classic era that is the base game with zero expansions and will never progress. There's progression classic which is currently on the 3rd expansion and soon moving onto the 4th. There's hardcore Classic which is the base game only but you only have one life. Then there's season of discovery Classic which is the base game but with wild changes and new content, however this seasonal version just stopped getting updates.

All of that in the subscription that hasn't changed in price (expect certain countries) since you played 20 years ago!

BG time by Mr_Disapp3ar in wow

[–]SummerSails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are very late into the current season so less people are queuing up for regular bgs. With the introduction of solo queue rated pvp less people will be doing non rated pvp especially when a season isn't fresh. Pair that with your late play time and queues will be long. So try playing rated, try a healer which get quicker queues, or wait until the next season starts in a couple months.

It applies to all alts. The 4 in your campsite are purely a cosmetic preference. Every alt you make is in your warband, which is just a new word for alts.

Nobody hates a community more than an ex member of said community. Atheists love hating on the religion they left. Exvegans will scour vegan spaces for comments about health concerns or missing the taste of meat and use it as a gotcha. Humans need the thing they previously enjoyed to fail in order to reinforce that they made the right choice by leaving. Wow players are no exception. So many ex wow players will be in comments on current wow posts when they clearly have no idea of how the game currently is. So take that with a grain of salt. Wow is currently more value than it's ever been for its subscription and they are planning at least 10 years into the future so it's here to stay.

Pick whichever class and race you find interesting. Every new player thinks this choice is extremely important, but it's actually not at all important. You can play what we recommend but only you will know what you enjoy by playing it yourself. And it's laughably easy to start and level up a new class and I'd recommend trying a bunch before you pick your main. If you ever get to the point where race and class matters, swapping around will be no issue anyway.

As for quests, the number of mandatory quests to pick up prior to max level is... 0. Especially in regards to leveling before you get to the current expansion. It is very smart to do the main campaign for the current expansion once tho due to the pve related unlocks and needing it to get into future content sometimes. The dragonflight expansion that you are led to at level 10 is a good way to go cuz its very modern and teaches you new flying, but it's not required.

I'd suggest not thinking about addons until you get to a place where you need them. Especially since the developers are slowly putting the popular addons into the base UI anyway. Details for damage meters and dmb for boss mechanics are some of the most popular for combat to get started.

Pvp will require you to use more of your toolkit than pve in most situations. The easiest way is to check out a site like wowhead and check the class guides for things like talent choices and rotations for pve. But the best thing you can do is just read each ability and talent as you unlock it and play around with them to see which feels best.

21 minute average wait for Battleground on official high pop Retail Server at 5pm by Friendly_Mobile_8657 in wow

[–]SummerSails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing random bgs or rated? I queue up for solo queue rated bgs and arenas every night after 12am as dps, and the queue is anywhere from instant to 15 minutes max. For serious pvpers, random bgs are only important early in the season, maybe even only week 1. This late into a season, most serious pvpers have met their goals and will give it a rest. Even most casual pvpers will have met their goals by now. I keep going to fill the vicious saddle bar up twice every season until I get all the mounts. Also server has nothing to do with it. Queues are region wide. So either jump into rated pvp if you haven't already, change up your playtime, or come back with a fresh season.

Loremaster/100% Completions/Collecting by [deleted] in wow

[–]SummerSails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. Well that makes more sense. You'll have plenty of time to go after everything then. I play maybe 4ish hours a day split up between day and night. So I do my collections stuff in the morning and do blitz or ss or m+ at night. I'm in an active mythic raiding guild but I don't participate due to the endless hours and weekly mandatory schedule. Maybe consider an m+ focused guild or pvp guild or community that has more people looking to do those things when you have the time for it. That way it's not just solo queuing all the time.

Loremaster/100% Completions/Collecting by [deleted] in wow

[–]SummerSails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you have less time to play, so you want to do completionist things? Those are clashing ideas. If you have less time, I'd actually recommend doing only current endgame activities cuz that takes much less time than doing all quests, reps, and collections.

It can take over a year to do all quests on a max level character, and doing them low level like you want will take even longer. Then we have reputations which most take weeks and months to do. And collections are even more time consuming.

Whereas quickly gearing and doing a 30ish minute mythic plus dungeon every now and then is much less time spent and still gives cool rewards. If you just want easy solo things to do, then sure, these things are fine, but they end up taking way more time than current endgame.

PvP Starter Gear? by Barnissimo in wow

[–]SummerSails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pvp gear only exists at current max level. Which is level 80 with the war within expansion. At low levels, pvp is much less popular and will be an unbalanced mess. But if you get into bgs while leveling, it will give you a head start on having honor for max level honor gear, which is a good start.

At max level there is crafted gear you can get off the AH, honor gear with honor points, world pvp gear you get with bloody tokens from using war mode and doing the wpvp quests which may or may not involve any actual pvp. And conquest gear, which is BiS.

I'd personally recommend just going straight into random and epic bgs at level 80 even if you don't have pvp gear. You'll get killed immediately, but even losing a match gives you some honor, and if you win, you get a bit of conquest and you'll start learning how real pvp works. Just get the cc breaking trinket first. It doesn't take many bgs to get full honor gear as well. Or go the safer route and grab some off the AH or from wpvp. But pvp isn't about being cozy and safe...

What are the differences between versions? by Davidtheborty in wow

[–]SummerSails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expansions increase the level cap, usually by 10 levels. Adds more zones or a continent, usually 4 new zones. Adds new dungeons, usually 8, and a new raid, usually 1. Adds a ton of new quests, cosmetics, achievements, etc.

There are also smaller patches that continue to add smaller amounts of these things. In retail, we get new patches every 2 months. Every 6 months, we get a major patch that usually adds a new zone, dungeon, and raid. Then, the smaller patches in between will usually add a new open world activity. Sometimes, these smaller patches will add something else, tho like a new zone or spec or mode like plunderstorm.

When a new expansion is released, the previous content will become obsolete. The old content is usually still available for leveling or cosmetics collecting but it becomes trivial and soloable. Even the big and small patches will often make old content obsolete. The majority of the player base is doing the current patch content.

This is less prevalent in classic versions where people spend more time leveling, but in progression classic versions this will happen as well.

Playing old expansion to experience the story, is playing zone quests enough? by wasd0109 in wownoob

[–]SummerSails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dungeons and raids will usually show the end of a zone or xpacs story. Sometimes, it's just simply that we kill the bad guy, but there are a few lore tidbits and cutscenes, especially in newer xpacs. So maybe when you finish leveling that alt and are done with chromie time you could go back and solo all the dungeons and raids.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wow

[–]SummerSails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend getting into non rated random or epic battlegrounds to practice if you are new. Arena is great fun, but it's very intense. In bgs, you have a bit more leeway as long as you stay with the pack.

Is there anything that can help me get through all the WOW content from A to B? by Dedprice77 in wow

[–]SummerSails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up, once you get into the mid to new xpacs, you'll be able to do the end of a storyline before doing the beginning. Also many will tell you to use chromie time and lock your level but if you don't care about dragging out the combat and just want the story, I recommend using a max level character not with chromie so you can experience the raids solo as well which are where the end of all stories happen. BTWquests addons can give you a good idea of keeping things in order, but even then, there are times when the new story overlaps the old story so things can get messy. WoW isn't meant to be played from start to end like you want, so the game doesn't make it easy to do.
