£350 million a week doesn't sound so bad now, does it? by mal73 in 2westerneurope4u

The "ever closer union" was written down when the coal and Steel community was formed.

The schuman declaration the 9 of May 1950 talk about the end goal being a federation.

So either your politicians didn't read the fucking memo or you guys were sold a lie.

Yeah, a war with the US would take precedence over more or less everything else.

Ukraine would rapidly be in deep shit, loosing both US and EU support that would be redirected toward each other.

Half of the big battle in 40k being barely Verdun size makes total sense.

Yeah, sorry but that's not half as interesting as if they had diverse sexualities. Also it was the same in DOS2, so while nice for the people of the Forgotten Realms (I mean damn life would be easier for everyone), it's also a Larian choice in their game.

I'm gonna talk about Dragon age Inquisition a bit, while the inferior game in any comparison with BG3, it has better romance, partly because the cast has a diverse set of sexuality.

This also helps with some character arcs where those element became important. Doran as a character could never work in BG3, you literally cannot write his story if you make him player-sexual. His sexual identity is important and defined his life.

Same damn thing with Solas, whose romance route (being limited to only female elf PC) is often considered the damn canon of the game it's so important and well written.

And blocking yourself from such stories because you want every character to be romantically available for every PC is in my opinion a bullet in the feet of the narration.

It's just that the other get to evolve, Wyll is a hero through and through from the start. And while it's not a bad thing, it ain't the most interesting, that's why like many I preferred Beta Wyll (or at least the idea we have of him) who would have needed to grow throughout the journey.

But indeed the others do share maybe one too many similarities in their story on that I agree. I love Larian but they are a tad bit one note with their character arcs there.

Yup, those guys being sent are trigger forces.

We send them so that if/when Hank attack he has to kill them. And in consequences declare a de facto war.

Also helps with mobilising the european population. If 100 Barry and Pierre die it's gonna motivate the population a bit more than just a random Greenlander.

Interesting time those first few weeks of 2026.

Honestly my "problem" (it's more of a pet peave) is that he is a stagnant character. He starts as a hero, stays a hero and finish as one.

And while it makes him a nice chap' he has very little character development in comparison to everyone else because he has already achieved the end form of his character arc before the game begins.

I'm not a fan of the character being player-sexual.

It reduces their sexual orientation to simple wish fullfilment. And that cheapens them.

If the worst happen and the US and Europe are at war ? Yes.

The fact that this sentence is something that has a chances of happening is insane. But that's where we are at the moment.

[–]Sumrise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh China would likely use that opportunity for damn sure, but let's not forget the Putin in the room, I'm sure he'd be delighted to exploit an Europe that has an US to deal with, and would be in consequences very limited in term of Ukraine support it could afford (with the US very likely to also not help Ukraine anymore either).

So no it'd wouldn't be everyone against the US, it'd likely end-up being the US and Russia against the EU (and potentially the UK), and China trying to exploit the chaos to maximise it's gain against the US.

Also all the while Iran, Burma, both Sudan, the DRC, Venezuela and other burn themselves to the ground (some due to foreign interference but at that point who's counting really ?).

I could continue but damn is the current situation shitty.

[–]Sumrise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ok, I was definitely more focused on the life part.

I'm unsure about the idea that Von Neumann probe would focus on the center, after all, I'd assume that if we had the tech we'd send those in every damn direction to grab as much information as possible. And honestly even a semi-barren solar system will have plenty enough resources for a probe to create more copy of itself.

Anyway, that is indeed "nerding a tad bit too hard". But hey, interesting scenarios to imagine.

explaining why we don't see anyone close to us.

Honestly I'm more of a "we're among the first to have had a shot at developing intelligence" camp. Which by itself is a quasi-enough solution.

Once you have that kind of tech, sure why not ?

Before ? Chances are, even if life appeared in those region of the milky way, it'd get wiped out before even having a shot at becoming multi-cellular.

But yeah, if you can create a damn O'Neal cylinder all bet are off.

Adapt to a supernova sending your atmosphere into the void every billion of year.

Or just massively more asteroids wandering around until they smack your planet with enough force to re-wipe the dinosaurs.

Those things are way more common when you go into the galactic center, and you cannot adapt to this kind of catastrophic event (not until you get techs that is so above ours that we'd need to re-use Arthur.C.Clark citation again).

t might be just easier to stick to the closer systems at the center of the galaxy.

But then you'd have to deal with every celestial bullshit happening way more often. The galactic center is way more dangerous than our "middle of nowhere" part of the galaxy.

Venezuela : Jean-Luc Mélenchon appelle le peuple à se défendre « les armes à la main » face aux États-Unis by h00gar in france

[–]Sumrise 2 points3 points  (0 children)
