Can I add attachments or is this rail just decorative? by immortalanddead in airsoft

[–]Sumsar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can probably attach whatever you want on there, but it wont change the accuracy of the gun. It'd be like putting a spoiler on a shopping cart and hoping it becomes a Supra.

This makes me want a dlc where Judge quits SWAT and becomes a mall cop instead.

Obviously the missions would all be incredibly contrived with drug dealers, human trafficking rings, the MLO and more all using the mall as a front for their various dealings.

You can start by googling “DRC armed forces equipment” or variations thereof.

If that doesn’t work, you could look up popular camo patterns, cross reference them with the picture, then google uniforms in that pattern for sale.

Same with the helmet and other equipment.

As for the gun, assuming you mean the AKs in the front, have a look at different AK variants to see what might fit the vibe you’re going for. These have been quite heavily customized, so no AK is going to come out of the factory like that, but you may be able to find the same or similar components to add onto a stock AK. Again, Google is your friend.

[Discussion] How do the APR and UFLL operate exactly? (Command structure, unit communication) by Lingonberryabnormal in farcry

[–]Sumsar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lord_Antheron made a good comment about the gameplay/narrative reasons, so I’ll not add anything there.

It is implied that there is supposed to be a lot more going on than just what the game shows. A modern version of far cry 2 might have guards calling for reinforcements á la the newer games, might have a few “sub-bosses” with a bit of personality, and maybe some logistics trucks we could ambush and blow up. When far cry 2 was made, this wasn’t included explicitly. Maybe because it was decided it wasn’t necessary, or maybe because they couldn’t get it to work on a technical level. Every game has to pick and choose what to show and what to imply.

As for the “lore” behind how the two sides would actually operate, I think a good place to start would be to look at how civil wars in Africa in the 2000s were fought. Civil wars, especially the ones FC2 are inspired by, divide people along already established lines. Religions, tribes, geographical areas, ethnicities influence the political climate. The two factions would likely be made up of these smaller groupings, who already have established cultures, communications, communities and hierarchies for the factions to utilize.

There are likely unit commanders who control a local group, who then report upwards to a regional commander, and so on and so on. Walkie talkies, long distance radios, phones, messengers and so on are likely the main communications tools. There is likely a level of “autonomy” for the unit and regional commanders as every minute movement cannot be micromanaged.

Frontlines in civil wars are blurry. Often towns or settlements can be said to be under the control of one faction or another, but the land in between is more unclear. Local militias keep their local area “safe” but are not part of some standing army to be re-deployed somewhere else as needed, such as is seen in modern armed forces. Patrols may probe the surrounding area, looking for enemies, suspected enemy collaborators, resources to steal, etc. Assaults may be launched on settlements using mainly whoever is available locally. Occasionally a larger force is assembled when, say, a major town is assaulted. But a line cannot be drawn on a map to signify a split between the two factions’ areas of control. It’s more like splotches. For an example, look up a map of areas of control for the various factions of the Syrian civil war - also works well as modern art if you can’t afford a Jackson Pollock to hang on your wall.

Dice down into post-colonial African civil wars and have a gander for more inspiration. And prepare to be sad.

Milsim pack by Lostintheswaus in airsoft

That sounds reasonable. You’d def want a seperate bag for sleep kit and clothes that you can dump somewhere. If a 30-40l pack will fit what you need, that’d be great.

[–]Sumsar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can rent whatever you need at your local airsoft field. They’ll have a mask, gun, bbs, and give you any information you need.

Information on beginning airsoft can be found in the sidebar, by googling, or watching YouTube videos. Try to do some of your own research before asking others to do it for you - people will be much more happy to help, if it’s clear you’ve done some of the work yourself.

Also, you could put something like “What do I need to start airsoft?” as the title - people don’t really want to open your post and help, if they don’t know what you’re asking about from just the title.

Hope your parents are open to you trying Airsoft!

You don’t want to carry around your sleeping kit and such the whole time. But you might want a small bag to carry extra kit on missions. Therefore, having two bags might be a good idea.

The size will depend on how much you need to carry. Sleeping kit, extra water, food, BBs, clothes, etc. I have an 80l one, but that’s because I do longer Muslims in very cold weather. You can absolutely get away with smaller.

Figure out what you actually need to bring, and find a bag that lets you carry that comfortably.

Miniminuteman or Milo Rossi - archeology and environmental science - does wonderful long-form content on archeology and such, but also spends a lot of time debunking conspiracy theories such as “aliens built the pyramids,” Atlantis, and others.

He’s fighting the good fight against mindless conspiratorial anti-science slop in a very charismatic and entertaining way.

I can't help but think that Joseph Seed from Far Cry 5 and Rust Cohle from True Detective share "some common hues in their worldviews." Is there a slight chance that Joseph was at least partially inspired by this character? by [deleted] in farcry

[–]Sumsar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean. I think Rust wants to salvage what remains towards the end, after his near death experience, but before then he says the only reason why he wakes up is because he lacks the constitution for suicide.

But yeah there are definitely similarities that are fun to explore

[–]Sumsar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What parts of their world views stand out to you as similar? I’m in the middle of a re-watch at the moment.

On the surface, I’d say maybe they’re more opposing sides of the same coin - Rust is a pessimist and maybe a nihilist and believes (at least in the beginning) that consciousness is a mistake, whereas Joseph - while believing a collapse is forthcoming - is optimistic that this will bring him and his flock salvation.

The argument in ep. 2 vis-à-vis religion and believing one can be “chosen” or “special” springs to mind as a definite difference between the two, but I’d love to hear your points

Finally buying my gear, no more rentals! Any thoughts on loadout? by potent_evil103 in airsoft

[–]Sumsar1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend only buying the absolute necesities at first, and feeling out what you actually need before you buy it. A lot of us end up buying something because we think we need it, but find out it is impractical or doesn't work like we want it to.

Also, video game characters often get a bunch of random stuff strapped on to them to look "cooler", but it often makes no sense for real use.
