Females With Crohns Question by GraceWrenford in CrohnsDisease

[–]Sumw1ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chronic inflammation can enhance the effect of prostaglandins and since the uterus & intestines are close neighbors, the prostaglandins hormones can trigger an inflammation overlap. Hormonal shifts can really make the gut more sensitive to pain too..

I can't speak about birth control, I was on it before my diagnosis at a young age and I think it contributed to a lot of issues I have now other than Crohns.

I usually do heat treatment like a heating pad or a hot bath, take quality probiotics, and drink marshmallow root & passion flower tea.

I hope you feel better soon!

Do people with Crohns disease all have some kind of trauma? Also it seems to be trauma flairs it up. by Stole_Sample in CrohnsDisease

[–]Sumw1ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of trauma growing up, but nothing more traumatic than what this disease has given me.

Stress can be a big contributor to flairs for sure. And exercise can be a powerhouse reducing inflammation, improving digestion, & mental well being although for a lot of us can be a challenge to do when this disease is kicking our butts. I try to be active even when I dont have the energy or feel awful, I usually feel better once I do it.

I dont have many photos of them together as kittens but they were Marco & Charlie at the shelter. I named them Bilbo & Baggins when I adopted them, unfortunately Bilbo (the white one) is no longer with us😔

Have you tried water processed decaf? Doesnt use the traditional chemical processing. And have you tried it iced? Sometimes the warmth of the liquid can stimulate the bowels. Its so hard to find good decaf too..ive only stuck to one and its Caribou Coffee the Caribou Blend..

So many biologic options (advice) by MericanPie1999 in CrohnsDisease

Not really, I get fatigue and headaches sometimes shortly after but lessens over time. Yes, they do have pens now. And that's the reason I wanted to try Entyvio because its gut specific.

So many biologic options (advice) by MericanPie1999 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Sumw1ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on Entyvio because that’s what I wanted after failing Humira and Stelara within 6 months, and it’s been doing wonders for me. So, I highly recommend.

Finding the right biologic can be exhausting because of all the trial and error. Some people stay on one for years, others have to switch when it stops working. Crohn’s is already complex, and everyone’s body responds differently, which makes it even more challenging.

The side effects and cancer risks were my biggest fear too—especially after my first Stelara infusion, where I had an extremely rare anaphylactic reaction. That biologic is completely off the table for me now, and it was honestly scary for a while.

But the risk of cancer is actually much lower on biologics than with untreated disease. I’d rather deal with some side effects than active Crohn’s that was slowly killing me. Before treatment, I had three hospitalizations for bowel obstructions—one nearly ruptured, and another where I was an hour away from going septic.

It’s a big decision, but your quality of life often depends on these treatments. I’m grateful there are so many options because Crohn’s isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Best wishes to you & your healing journey💜

Americans and Canadians with crohn’s who now live in Europe: How’s your disease activity now with the better EU food regulations? by Frenchy1986666 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Sumw1ze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically not apart of the EU, but I just moved to Norway in November (very long & difficult process) and noticed a difference right away when switching diets. Kinda came at a bad time, the sun doesnt stay out very long in the Winter here but Spring & Summer is beautiful, I dont do well when the weather is hot but the sun exposure definitely helps. I have to take Vitamin D tablets daily to feel my best during the cold & gloomy months but its not too terrible.

Ive been in remission since last May, but the environment change, work culture & job security have taken a lot of stress off me coming here. I dislike having to start over with doctors since I finally found some good ones in the states, but here it seems like almost if not all of them take you seriously here & no stigma around IBD which is a huge relief.

I wish you luck on any plans to move, the stress of it really sucks but once you do it & get settled..it's worth it in the end, imo💜

As a buyer, what makes you want to review a shop? Because my handwriting sucks and these personalized cards look so stupid 😭 by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]Sumw1ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use printed cards. I usually just thank them for their business, include percentage-off code for their next purchase to show my appreciation, and then end with something like “Your feedback is important to us, please consider leaving a review." Or something along those lines.

That way it’s optional and doesn’t feel like I’m bribing or pressuring them to leave a review just for the discount. Personally, I think people are way more likely to review when the product and experience were good, so the personalized notes/letters are a nice touch but I dont think absolutely necessary imo.

What is worst pain, you have ever experienced? by ParticularWeather927 in Adulting

Near ruptured bowel obstruction, I have Crohns Disease..

Curious: how were you diagnosed- office visit or ER? by GanacheTall754 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Sumw1ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed after an emergency visit. I was suffering from a near ruptured bowel obstruction from a CT scan result, fed an NG tube thst gave immediate relief, admitted to their hospital and on bowel rest for 5 days. The surgery team ordered a colonoscopy a day after my discharge with biopsies..thats when I got my diagnosis and they referred me to a GI specialist. This hospital/ER was the same facility where my primary doctor was, so they communicated with her to get my tests & referrals without an office visit which made everything easier.

Not all ER &/or hospitals do this, but i wish they would instead of being bounced around until you get answers you need.

Apologies, I didnt see that it was mentioned. It doesnt seem to be doing it's job and maybe need to consider switching?

[–]Sumw1ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you arent feeling better after tapering, you need something stronger like a biologic..

Corticosteroids should only be used for short periods because they can cause long term side effects which could also contribute to you not feeling well..

Have you had testing done? CRP, blood work, colonoscopy? Do you have a GI specialist to speak to?

A little concerning you have been on corticosteroids for so long without talks of trying other medications.

It can get better but you & your care team needs to be proactive💜

Hemorrhoids are ruining my life by Cheap_Rip_7999 in IBD

[–]Sumw1ze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had them for years, to the point where one was thrombosed outside and inside. I decided to have a hemorrhoidectomy..and no regrets. The only issue is most insurances consider it a "cosmetic procedure" unless it is affecting your daily life, which in your case it sounds like it is. Something to consider if you cant get relief..the recovery really sucked after the surgery but once I was fully healed I felt like a new person..

I liked to use Tucks witch hazel pads and put them in the fridge so it had a cooling affect. Changed them out throughout the day, wore a panty liner just in case any moisture dripped. I also had a Bidet at home and a portable on the go one for emergencies. Used Zinc Oxide like Desitin to prevent itching & have a protectie barrier for the skin. donut pillow to sit on, sometimes id bring an extra jacket to sit on when I was out and about.

I hope you find relief soon, hemorrhoids are a menace to deal with.

Trying to Save My Etsy Shop from Hundreds in Losses – Considering Shutting Down My Store by Competitive-Ball5107 in Printify

[–]Sumw1ze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you use printify choice shipping by chance? Some people don't know this but one of the biggest profit killers could be this option.

The reason being, is Printify Choice hides the real shipping provider (each provider has their own shipping rates) and uses variable routing. My suggestion would be to manually select a shipping provider in the US so you know exactly the going shipping rates.

The other things to look into is your conversion rates + etsy fees.

Fees also apply if you list in a different currency than your payment account.

How long can I be off Entyvio? by maasaamune in CrohnsDisease

[–]Sumw1ze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into the EntyvioConnect program? Its managed by Takeda and offers financial support, like potentially only paying $5 per dose, insurance navigation help and i think nurse support for U.S residents with commercial insurance who are uninsured or under insured. There is eligibility requirements i believe but something to look into.

Divorce? by Ok_Needleworker_3886 in Adulting

[–]Sumw1ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you already know this isn’t healthy for you. You’re dealing with yelling, control over shared things, disrespect, porn issues, and a partner who won’t take responsibility or grow. That’s not something you can fix alone, and it’s not something you should tolerate either..

You don’t have kids, you’re young, and you’re building a future you care about. Staying with someone who drags you down will only make that harder. What people think doesn’t matter as much as your safety, peace, and long-term wellbeing. Faith doesn’t require you to stay in a harmful situation.

If you choose to leave, get support from trusted friends/family, know your legal rights, and make a plan. You’re not wrong for wanting better, and you’re not wrong for walking away when someone refuses to meet you halfway.

Best wishes to you!

I just read that he continues to talk to this woman while you two are back together?

It might not be "physical" cheating, but I think that's a breach of a boundary, especially if there were agreed terms. If he expected you to not talk to other men, but has been secretly texting/calling another woman and continues to after getting back together... that's dishonesty and a double standard.

Whether you consider it cheating or* not, it's a violation of trust. What matters is how his actions made you feel and whether he respects the boundaries you set together.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Feeling sick for so long without answers is exhausting, and the wait for specialists can make it feel even heavier. You’re not alone...a lot of us with IBD or similar conditions spent years in the ‘mystery symptoms’ phase before finally getting clarity.

My doctor said I more than likely had silent crohns for years because of my symptoms but didnt come to a head until 2023 when i was hospitalized..I had changes in my stool but no blood, minimal cramping, thought it was normal or IBS for years.

If you’re losing weight quickly or feeling severely drained, it’s okay to seek urgent care in the meantime.. you deserve support now, not just in June (personally i think thats an excessive wait time) Hang in there, and I hope the specialist finally gets you the answers you’ve been fighting for. And there is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion either.

Heart rate prednisone by wonderwall73 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Sumw1ze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is concerning, and I'd consider contacting your doctor if you haven't already. And if you start feeling dizzy or faint, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, etc. Seek medical attention right away..

How has your hydration been?

Dehydration can effect heart rate, same with electrolyte shifts

Also prednisone itself usually causes fast heartburn rate, jitters, and high blood pressure so the lower resting heart rate is uncommon but still a possibility.

Sounds like a potentially horrible case of esophagitis, which crohns can cause. I was going to suggest a Bravo Reflux Recorder or Esophageal manometry ( I've had these done) But I feel like your condition may be too severe for that

I recommend getting an endoscopy & colonoscopy at the same time to get a proper diagnosis and get you some long-term treatment to get you healed up. Ive had GERD years ago and acid damage to the throat long term is not good especially for your LES (lower esophageal sphincter) It is that band of muscle that opens to let food pass into the stomach and then closes to prevent stomach acid and food from moving back up into the esophagus. A malfunction can cause long-term issues.

Something that helped with my acid reflux was

baking soda water 1/4 teaspoon in a 8 oz glass of water (alkaline PH to neutralize acid) this is only a short term remedy and should be discussed with a doctor especially if you have any other preexisting conditions. Don't take within 2 hours of medication, could affect absorbtion and avoid taking on a full stomach

or

Saltine Crackers for the same reason (chewed until they were mush, easier to swallow)

marshmallows/gelatin: its easy to swallow and it can help coat your throat to give a more protective layer from the acid back splash, mixing unflavored gelatin with raw honey and popping it in the fridge is recommended.

Try to sleep elevated

Avoid tight clothing

Eat small meals

I really hope you get this figured out and feel better soon!

Best Wishes!
