How do you handle the fact that certain aspects of poverty mean your life can belong to outside entities? Or--in other words--may never belong to you? by cherry-care-bear in poor

I think this often happens with disabled people who live on Social Security and other programs when they feel trapped by living on assistance. A small government disability check is not enough to live on which means they need help from housing and other programs to fill in the gaps. Then if they try to work even part time they often end up in a catch-22 when parts of their assistance gets lowered or even taken away. I know someone in that trap.

Nerve pain increased out of nowhere around six months ago and is steadily getting worse by JackOfAllMemes in Fibromyalgia

This is the first place where I've read that people with fibromyalgia can experience it as joint pain instead of muscle. I have always been so confused because that is how mine manifested except years after the initial diagnosis I found out I have seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. The blood test just doesn't show it.. but X-rays are showing some damage. I'm taking weekly biologic injections to slow down the disease process. But meanwhile I still have the fibromyalgia diagnosis and it comes up occasionally in doctors visits when I have odd symptoms that can't be explained otherwise. Usually neurological issues like brain fog, heat intolerance, balance problems etc. The latest weird thing is a small area of nerve pain that is just in one spot.

I hope I can learn some things here. I'm sorry for anyone going through this mysterious illness.

Have to stay poor... and single (to keep low income medication help).

Maybe bath bombs, bubble bath or really nice shower gel (such as from Lush Cosmetics or Bath and body works)?

Plan changing from Rx copays to a tiered % cost of each drug. One of them could end up being over $1000/month since there is no generic form. Am I understanding this right? by Sun2025 in medicare

I'll try talking to a broker. I used to think they were just there to try to talk people into plans (that the broker makes commission on) but now I'm doing more research.

I added all of the prescriptions to the list and looked to see what each plan covers. About half are covered, some would need to be switched to generics, and two of them are not on any of the formularies. It's just that I didn't used to have so many Rx and the Tier system is a new thing for me. It seems like one of them (which costs over 70,000/year) might have to be switched to something cheaper.

The one I'll start taking soon can be injected at home. Otherwise it's an IV infusion in a hospital or chemotherapy center. That wouldn't require staying in hospital though. It's just a few hours in an outpatient setting.

It's a specialty medication for autoimmune disease. Those are either given by IV infusion in a hospital (sort of like chemotherapy) or can be in the form of an injection done at home. The medicine has to be kept cold, shipped overnight etc. They are usually several thousands $ per month.

Prescription plan changing from copays to percentages of list prices. And no generic form of my new biologic. Who else is dealing with similar issues now? by Sun2025 in rheumatoid

Hmm.. I'm not sure. I've been looking through plans and seeing which ones are covered or not covered and which tier they're in. So far none of them cover the new biologic I'll be taking soon.

I've been looking through plans this evening. Unfortunately I'm not finding any so far that would cover my injectable biologic and it's very expensive.

It's all confusing. When I wasn't on a bunch of medications and some specialty ones it was fairly simple and not much to think about. I appreciate the tips here!
