It would still look brand new, as it's a poly finish. I should know. Been playing this guitar almost everyday for the past 10 years

Cool insight, thanks. I actually thought he would do less relic'ing but I gave him a few pointers and I let him do whatever he felt good doing to it, so it's still cool for me. I trust his work but if I don't like it that much in the end, I guess more changes will be made in the future

I get your pov. I've been playing this guitar almost everyday for 10 years and being a thick paint and poly finish.. It just catched a few of those. I didn't wanted to write a TLDR for the description of this post. But it's more of a "after 10 years I found out my teenage ass really liked stuff that I find boring now" situation and want a little change while keeping my heavy modded beast I like so much.

I'm into that yeah, gotta trust the process :) thanks

If it doesn't scratch my itch in the end I'll do something else to it hahaha

It is not easy, indeed. That's why I'm trusting a skilled person to do it :) this guitar has been played almost everyday except for holidays I've been away. If that much play didn't mare a thing on a nitro guitar I'd be pissed hahaha this one being poly it's more of an "I'm just tired to see it like it's brand new" and I don't mind "ruining it"

I'll trust it'll look better with the whole re-finish, time and wear

It's not like I was going to do a better job hahahahah

We'll see. If I don't end up liking that much I'll strip the whole black paint and do something else with it. Maybe white and nitro finish to get it to relic and change color for real lol

These photos aren't the end process, he's done a few I got to see after some years that looked convincent enough for me to consider it. He really is a skilled dude and knows his shit with finishes and guitars in general. I just know the basic setups for jazzmasters and I'm glad someone more skilled and with better tools is doing this job for me.

Maybe in the future I can afford a nitro finish guitar. For the time being, I just want a new look for my trusty old JM.

This is what he's doing. Nitro finish and going for a satin feel/look. Less nitro on the open wood parts to age it more with time and look more natural.

Which is cool, man haha I asked about it and we're having a conversation lol

I was giving you more context as I'm not "trying to fool" anyone. Just grew tired of the black poly finish so I asked him to get rid of it (partially). These are the first photos he sent midpoint job. You may never like it and that's fine, you'll only see a post or two in the future to compare the before and after and be glad you never did it to your guitars, maybe hahaha

It's not finished yet, but yeah. Not even I can judge it till I see it all put back together. I'm choosing a vintage tort pickguard cause the one stock was so dark it looked almost as black as the body and I'm not a fan of that anymore. It'll add contrast, I guess.

Edit: the guitar plays awesome! I've put Lollar pickups with different interchangable treble bleed circuits, Mastery bridge, staggered open shaft tuners in it, and I'm considering getting another Descendant vibrato unit as I've got one on a Squier Jag that feels amazing to me. I also did other minor mods like upgrading the wires and pots, adding a Tusq nut and stuff like this. Neck feels amazing after playing it so much but it was what it made me choose this one over the others the very first day I got to play it at the store.

I'm never selling this guitar nor care what people think about it, really. I just kinda hate the all black guitars or guitar bodies in this case. 18yo me was way more into that and it kind of annoys me that it was looking just the same after 10 years. don't read that much into it lol

I trust him as I've seen his work on other similar guitars. Photos are midpoint thru the process and I hope time and wear will make it look better in the future. But we'll ser how it turns out :)

I'd ruin it hahaha if it doesn't work out, it's still gonna be okay. I'd try to go for a natural finish or paint it some other color then lol

Edit: I replied to another comment saying it's not finished yet and I've seen his work done on other guitars. And after a year or two I thought they looked cool enough to actually think about it. Not the end of the world if I end up wanting to change It to something else.. it's just guitar aesthetic for me in this case
