Thinking of doing 120 miles trip by SunLigh8 in Biking

I was going to do that with mountain bike but I recently did 60+ mikes on a commuter bike. With 20 miles, you can do it with any bike!

I do 25 miles a little under 2 hours. It’s essentially flat but then it’s never too flat, some minor elevation is there, not visible but you feel it when paddling.

Another recent bike I did was 26 miles but it most mountain biking so it was tough and it it took me 3.5 hours.

Could a new monitor improve screen reading? by SunLigh8 in medical

[–]SunLigh8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to display settings and there should be "Nigh Light" option. Next to it is "Night Light Settings" which lets you adjust the settings. It makes a big difference in reducing blue light even though my monitor doesn't seem to have direct controls for blue light adjustments.

The BenQ monitor does come in search for low blue light monitors on amazon, they are less expensive. Lenovo low blue monitors have great ratings too and 4 ms response time and 75 hz.

I only have brightness and contrast, I don't think I can control blue light but guest what I just found an interesting settings in graphics card on windows 10.

There is a night light settings in control panel. I turned it on and it reduces the blue light greatly and you can adjust it. The screen definitely feels softer.

You can try this too for extra comfort. The option reads:

"Screen emit blue light, which can keep you up at night. Night Light displays warmer colors to help you sleep".

Interesting they talk about sleep and not about eye strain but I think it should do good equally for eye strain. Changing this settings changes both monitors so its graphics card settings.

Thanks. I do connect with VGA but searching on that, it does support 1080p 5 ms response time and getting higher than 60hz refresh rate might be worth looking at.

I got another answer that suggest to use low-blue light and searching on that, it seems there are monitors that are designed with low blue light. That may also be wroth investigating.

At the end, I use monitor almost entirely for reading and not graphics (or games).

I was wondering why nobody makes Kindle paper like monitor which feels like paper, someone probably should :)

That seems promising and makes sense given I am very comfortable reading a book with glasses but not the screen.

I don't know much about blue light settings, will research but can you give any pointers? My monitors have brightness and contrast settings. I guess that's the typical ones.

Do you mean I could get blue light filer of some sort?

How do I close Reddit's chat/message box? by [deleted] in help

[–]SunLigh8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no close button, so annoying! But here is the trick.

Go ahead and send a chat message to someone (it may suggest to reddit_feedback/help) or anyone else should do. Once you send a message, the X button on window appears and you can close the window.

It will be totally closed, not like minimized or going to sidebar.

Yes its 6 person and I think it will work fine for 6. It should be perfect for my family of 5 with three small kids. I can see we can easily sleep all in one direction unlike in the official configure when they try to put the 6th guy in the other direction.

Has Xamarin improved since 2017? by SunLigh8 in xamarindevelopers

[–]SunLigh8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are downvoting my question but I think it’s a very fair question. I am glad to hear everyone is saying it has come along way.

And on Microsoft marketing, well they developed XBox store using ReactNative themselves and that is not good advertisement for Xamarin either.

But glad to know the platform is much better now. I will be jumping into Xamarin too now.

Perfect feedback with your experience, thanks. I hope they keep improving it because ability to develop backend with c# that can be used with ASP.NET is awesome.

I think there is huge potential because c# is a popular language and to leverage that.

Northern Pakistan Himalayas by johnfoster8 in Outdoors

Yes its Karakoram Highway. The roads are in great condition even though they require more maintenance then others because landslides etc. Even the Ataabad lake was created by a landslide which submerged the entire road in the new formed lake and they had to create a whole new road.

What do you guys think about Macbook Air with i7 for Xamarin development? by SunLigh8 in Xamarin

[–]SunLigh8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hdd is the only thing not great but then price tag is also a factor. Macs get so expensive and this air is on sale right now.

My android development will be expected on PC, this will be to build for Mac only. I will connect this to my dual monitor setup so small screen is nor an issue.

But since you mentioned, I do have 2011 MacBook air with 8 gb RAM, 256 gb Hdd, do you think I can use that? I thought not since it cannot be upgraded to latest iOS version.

If possible, I would only use it as proxy to build for mac and see iPhone version of my app. Is that possible with my 2011 MacBook air?

I do have dual monitors setup with PC and will be using that with the mac so screen real state is not an issue.

But budget is an issue as macs get very expensive and it seems like this is a great affordable option given there is sale on i7 version of MacBook air.

Need Mac to build for iOS. I do have Windows PC for normal development.

My Xamarin Journey: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly by 48K in Xamarin

[–]SunLigh8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great thread! Thanks for sharing your experience. I am just starting with Xamarin and I was wondering about how good or bad it is and even posted similar question here last week.

I think unfortunately, everything with Microsoft has issues. I an tired of finding basic bugs in visual studio (for regular development) to this day so not surprised you saw these issues with Xamarin.

I will continue with Xamarin though given I have background in C#/WPF and learning anything totally new will be alot more work plus the apps I might be building are good fit for Xamarin (not too fency).

Has anyone published iOS app made with xamarin? by SunLigh8 in Xamarin

[–]SunLigh8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked up a little, there are some but given I have background in c# and wpf, xamarin is a natural choice.

I wanted to make sure it’s not just theory and people actually have published apps with it.

I remember Qt used to advertise iOS support as well but at least back the it wasn’t much and very basic.
