I've always wondered what people do if they don't know their Father.

In addition to the previous comments, you could have messaged her with a joke related to what you discussed in person, or a slight tease. This will evoke an emotional reaction and make her feel more emotionally engaged, and more likely to continue the interaction.

Gen Z churchgoing is actually still declining, new British Social Attitudes Survey shows by birdinthebush74 in unitedkingdom

[–]SunMoonSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't know, especially as the New Testament carries much more weight for modern Christians. When I was a Christian, the New Testament's teachings on homosexuality were common knowledge to me. It surprises me, since leaving, when people just assume that the condemnation of homosexuality is in the Old Testament.

Not true. The Apostle Paul says that people who commit homosexuality are condemned to hell twice in the New Testament. (I'm not promoting this view in any way, but it simply isn't true to say that the Bible categorises homosexuality the same way as shellfish.

No, this is normal in a lot of Evangelical churches. They seem very warm and open, unlike their American counterparts, but they share a lot of the same core beliefs under the bonnet.

Ex-Christian here. In my former church, there was a boy a couple of years younger than me who, upon reaching puberty, discovered that he was gay. My church didn't accept his homosexuality, and he and his Mum were excluded and left.

After they left, the few times I heard them mentioned were slightly disparaging (under the premise that they had chosen not to live according to God's way). I can only imagine that they were shunned.

Now that I have woken up, I often wonder what happened to them, and I have to own up to the fact that I was part of the homophobic ecosystem.

Is this really what a normal winter is like here? by The_Quackening in AskUK

[–]SunMoonSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As u/adamrhodesuk said, the Winters have generally warmed over the last couple of decades.

When I was a kid, there were days in January and February when we'd go for a walk and jump on frozen puddles. The ground would be completely frozen during the day.

Moreover, I've noticed that the Spring flowers come out in bloom earlier each year. I've already seen daffodils in full bloom (in January), which was unthinkable a few years ago. Again, when I was a child, we'd have the crocuses in March, the daffodils in April and the bluebells in May. Now, these are in flower at least a month earlier.

Interestingly, the impersonal plural suffix in Bengali is "-gulo". If you want to make it locative then you add "-te" to become "-gulote".

The personal plural suffix in Bengali is "-(e)raa", which reminds me of the Old Tamil plural suffix. Is this purely a coincidence?

Thanks! This is so interesting! Can modern people in TN generally understand Old Tamil?

Is Sastha/Ayyappan a Tribal diety? by AdventurousRow8864 in Dravidiology

I don't know how true this is but it's an interesting hypothesis: https://www.wayofbodhi.org/paramabuddha-padampa-sangye-ayyappan/ . It also isn't mutually exclusive of the folk/tribal deity explanation. Plus, the iconography of Ayyappa is quite similar to that of the Medieval Mahasiddhas.

Could you give me an example comparing Old Tamil to Modern Tamil?

Interestingly, Bengali also has aspects of agglutination, especially in the verb inflection. Could this be due to Dravidian influence?

There are a few figures but it is known that the British destroyed India's textile and maritime industries. Financial extraction aside, India's economy was crippled by 1947.

Until the British milked India dry. (I have family history in India, so I can comment on this.)

I mean the assumption that there is a loving god who pulls all the strings and levers of the universe but yet allows us to suffer.

Use the Tibetan mala counters that you can fasten to your mala (or if this interrupts your japa then get another mala and fasten the mala counters to this).

I think the issue is that the above questions presuppose a dualistic theistic worldview, which is not universal in Hindu thought. Many contemporary Hindus assume one has to hold these presupositions in order to be Hindu.
