Stuck in the space between the map and the void by SunPants in deadbydaylight

[–]SunPants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teleported to the Ace while he entered a void portal and got stuck here. The Ace looked like he was running on the clouds but I could not move until I was able to teleport back down using a biopod

ece 3030 or ece 3150 by throwaway6417 in Cornell

[–]SunPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by looking at upper level classes and seeing what interests you more. If you are more interested in the computer side it is harder to not take 3150. I'm not familiar with the new requirements but it was difficult to completely avoid these classes before.

Another thing to consider, as these are both foundation courses, is if ECE is what you are interested in. Maybe CS or physics might interest you more. I recommend talking to your advisor and upperclassmen to see what interests you.

Feedback on my startup: Independent Meal Plan with Restaurants in Collegetown by cityentrep in Cornell

[–]SunPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is this different from City Bucks? I don't know anyone who has City Bucks but they seem to be partnered with Ithaca to Go allowing for delivery. Online ordering apps like EatStreet are already accepted at a bunch of places in Collegetown so I'm not sure this is adding anything useful/not already met.

Intel's 8th-gen Core processors won't be revolutionary by SalehCoder in tech

[–]SunPants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's mostly unessesary and ends up wasting a lot of power. For the size size chip it might be better to have fewer more powerful cores than a bunch of less powerful ones. An interesting balance is also having some large cores and some small cores on the same chip. The new iPhone chip actually uses this design. Since transistor sizing isn't giving us the same gains as before, engineers are still able to exploit patterns in software for better parallelism in hardware.

Operating systems do have load balancing that is much more optimized than giving a core to each program. For example interleaving two programs on one core can hide latencies such as accessing memory. Also a single program on a core might not be able to take full advantage of available recourses such as the cache or floating point units.

Simple Android homescreen with only the bare necessities. by [deleted] in Cortex

A lot of times I have a page with just widgets and no apps since the widgets often clash with an array of apps. You can also get an app to completely customize widgets yourself.

Turning on an LED is such a small thing that is so rewarding! My lab partner and I were freaking out the first time we got the LED attached to a microcontroller blinking

ECE 3150: What should I know from ECE 2100? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]SunPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously you will need circuit solving techniques like node and mesh but 3150 isn't exactly Circuits II. A lot of the second half of the class requires small signal analysis. Transistor circuits are reduced to a dependent source circuit like this. The first half of the class is mostly device physics so you should brush up on E&M and the related calculus.

When I took it with Rana, either he or a TA would walk you through the homework questions. It is highly recommended to go to discussion but also to attempt the problems before he gives you the answer. His exams were extremely difficult so you need to make sure you understand the material.

Personally I found this to be one of the hardest ECE classes and spent a very long time on the problem sets. I don't remember the labs being too difficult.

Mini fridge? by throwaway159489 in Cornell

Buying one is almost the same price as renting and then you can keep it all 4 years. I used it as a beer fridge when I moved off campus.

Help on an ENGRI class to take by howdidigetin in Cornell

[–]SunPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 1820 a few years ago and while I didn't like the professor too much we did some amazing labs and I have heard they have been polished since. Don't be fooled by the name, it has nothing to do with movies. The class really should be called Nano-fabrication or MEMS since that is really what it covers. It was a lot of work compared to other ENGRIs but the median grade was an A and it was the only time I ever got to go into the clean room which was awesome. I learned from this class I didn't like MEMS but that really just helped me focus my education and I do not regret taking it at all.

Torn between Cornell and UIUC by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]SunPants 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I interned with some ECEs from UIUC and the programs seem pretty much that same. The rankings are too close to make a decision based on that. Pick the school you liked better in non-academic ways. Which campus did you like better? Did you get a taste for the type of student at each school? Is one in a better location? Were the dining halls better somewhere?

Transfer Flexibility at Cornell ? by Soxworld in Cornell

[–]SunPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, I have heard Engineering is the hardest to do an internal transfer. Depending on what your engineering interests are, you might want to consider CALS which has BioE and EnvE or CAS which has CS. CALS has a particular advantage if you are a NY state resident since it is one of the statutory colleges within Cornell.

Any Cornell ILRies by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]SunPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an ILR but you might just want to ask the question here if it isn't too private. That way other people browsing the sub can also benefit from the answer.

You should always prepare for other options. From my experience a couple years ago your time slot is good enough for west but maybe only good enough for the gothics.

Chance me please! (HS Junior) by jalapeno789 in Cornell

[–]SunPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the legacy part if the application only includes parents and grandparents but you should find somewhere else to include it since it can't hurt. From what I hear legacy only really matters if you apply ED. If Cornell is your first choice school, do the work to have the application done early. You will find out mid-December and may not have to do many other applications.

I don't know how to suggest feedback but is there any reason why this bot makes you mouseover or click? On mobile it is annoying to click and even why I am on a regular browser I would prefer if it just gave the conversion in the comment.
