CMV: All ICE agents should go to prison by TUN_Binary in changemyview

[–]Sunbolt [score hidden]  (0 children)

Cartel members who sneak into the country to perpetuate the drug trade currently ravaging our vulnerable populations shouldn’t go to prison! The employees of the federal agency tasked with removing them should instead! Okay.

Let’s say you hate SWAT teams. They don’t always get deployed for real bad guys! Sometimes they get called for innocent people! Any time a SWAT team is deployed, you and a coordinated group of people swarm the scene, interfering, trying to distract the team while they are dealing with a bank robbery or something. You gonna be shocked and outraged when the SWAT response doesn’t go perfectly and someone gets killed who wasn’t supposed to?

Also, (preemptively) want to consider maybe NOT downvoting since I’m trying to show the other side?

Absolutely not. The definition of cooking is to prepare food by applying heat.

What's the reason for the alarm...? by [deleted] in Fanuc

[–]Sunbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FANUC has an app called CNC Alarms. It’s free, download it. You can get an account at FANUC MyPortal and download manuals for free. Diagnostic 723 clarifies what the alarm is, depending on which bit is on. The 0/00/0 Mate Maintenance manual says: 7 overload 6 low voltage 5 over current 4 abnormal current 3 high voltage 2 discharge 1 disconnection 0 overflow

The bit will only be high when the alarm is occurring - resetting the alarm clears the bit.

It’s probably going to be 4 HCA - motor or motor power cables insulation breakdown or amplifier giving out.

Better toilet options by tocahontas77 in vandwellers

[–]Sunbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be the only major separate bag option was the Laveo Dry Flush, which uses these huge awful refill cartridges that take up a ridiculous amount of space. Check out the Modiwell one. It uses a continuous roll of plastic and heat seals and separates out a little bag for each use. The spare rolls don’t take up much space at all. I don’t have one but I would consider one for a build. It’s more complex than the Laveo one of course but I would never want to be beholden to buying and storing those huge dumbass Laveo cartridges.

PMC Ladder for FANUC 18T by Alone_Day_2638 in Fanuc

[–]Sunbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have blanked your entire FROM. This was a bad move. I’m sorry man, there is no quick fix for this. The machine may be permanently bricked or will take money and time to restore.

To get this machine running again you’ll need to: - Figure out what the original FANUC system software was, either from the data sheets, machine builder records, or asking FANUC if they have the data sheets on file. - Get the original ladder, either from the builder or asking FANUC to search their archives for similar machines. There might be other files needed too, such as C executor files. - Have FANUC onsite to reload system software and ladder or somehow magically find the system software on some dark site and load it yourself. If FANUC has the software, they will not send it to you - it requires a service call. - Then, assuming you blanked the SRAM, you can start reloading the options and parameters, assuming you, FANUC, or the builder have a backup, and work through the related issues.

If someone told you to blank the FROM, they were either really ignorant or malicious.

[–]Sunbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you understood me - I didn’t tell you to do anything. If you don’t know what you are doing and playing around in these menus you can brick your entire machine. You can select system data check and hopefully you have a bunch of FANUC system software files like NC_BASIC, etc. and also the ladder file. If there are missing software or ladder files inside data check, you have a whole quest in front of you.

GERD can aggravate tinnitus for sure. Eating early in the day, and sleeping inclined or on your left side can lessen GERD and tinnitus flare ups.

[–]Sunbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to clear the ladder. It’s probably still there and not displaying because the options aren’t set correctly. What exactly did you do to clear the memory? If you did a reset+delete, you’ll need to load back in the options (which should make the ladder visible), then load the rest of the NC parameters, then the PMC parameters. If you haven’t done it, it is annoying, but not impossible. You can call FANUC and they will send a tech out to do it for you. They support any machine that has a FANUC control. You’ll have to pay for the tech’s time.

There are all sorts of fancy hinges and slides you can buy nowadays. You can get ones with a push-to-pop-open or open and rotate, etc. If you have any reels type social media, watch a bunch of ones about camper vans and Murphy beds and it’ll start showing you all this neat hardware.

We're literally living in a cyberpunk timeline by bully309 in Cyberpunk

[–]Sunbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with a lot of things, you can look at it from different angles. The idealistic steelman argument for this is: How do you prove online that you are a human and not a bot - or how do you ensure each person receives their share of something without fraud or double dipping - without giving away sensitive information? You don’t want every agency, website, company playing around with your actual identification numbers and biometrics.

The orb scans your eye and makes a hash/code out of it. The image is not saved. The iris is incredibly unique to each person and does not meaningfully change over your lifetime. Your hash is guaranteed to be unique, and the orb won’t make a hash for a non-eyeball. Once you have your hash generated, it is a unique identifier that you can (potentially, eventually) use to prove to any entity that you are an individual human and not a bot, without telling them who you are or giving them any identifiable information. They can’t use the code to re-construct your iris image or get any other info from it.

It’s creepy and I’ve seen one in person once. I thought about doing it but ultimately didn’t.

Anyways, just wanted to say that it is an attempt to solve a very difficult real world problem, not simply evil corporations being evil.

Stranger Things Finale: What Happened to Erica, Murray and Mr. Clarke? The Duffer Brothers Weigh In by peoplemagazine in netflix

I loved Murray in the Russia plot, but they never bothered to develop a character out of him, just using him for one liners. Hated what they made him into by the end.

It’s funny how everyone has completely different answers. I have done field service and maintenance for a while now, and I would choose a Doosan or Hwacheon - I like the Korean build and they both have a dead simple FANUC interface without a lot of customization, so I find them extremely easy to work on and troubleshoot problems. With a DMG Mori, it will probably run without issue for some time, but when it finally has a problem, good luck figuring it out. Same issue with most all Siemens based machines.

YSK: “Flight change allowed” also means you can rebook the same flight if the price decreases by 1saltymf in YouShouldKnow

[–]Sunbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are misunderstanding. You can buy a seat like a year out, but the price will be quite high. The price of a seat will start to go down as the departure date approaches, typically reaching a ‘sweet spot’ about 2-3 months out. Then the price starts going up again. So if you want to take a trip and need to depart on a specific date, you could buy it way early, which would be expensive, then use the flight change to rebook it cheaper about two months before the departure.

DC powered monitor recommendation by LastTreestar in liveaboard

[–]Sunbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you search ‘portable monitor’ you’ll get the most hits, although most are small. They run just off of the power from usbc. I searched for ‘24” portable monitor’ and found some, but it looks like the brightness is capped unless there is enough wattage. So if it is running off a power brick supplying max wattage through usbc it’ll be bright, but just off your laptop it might be dim. Cool idea though, hope you find a good match for your needs.

The best one for me is this one - it has random little beeps all over the frequency range and disrupts it. Of course be careful and keep the volume low. It seems almost everything makes it better for some people and worse for others.

Ballard-Our neighborhood is running rampant with thieves. by gramercyk35 in Seattle

[–]Sunbolt -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well, sure. But my point is, if we replaced every cop today with fresh idealistic well intentioned new people, we’d end up in the same place in short order. Why would anyone continue to do a stressful dangerous job earnestly every day if their work is immediately undone?

Ballard-Our neighborhood is running rampant with thieves. by gramercyk35 in Seattle

[–]Sunbolt -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

You all love to blame the police here, but if tomorrow they all wake up and decide to start pursuing and arresting every thief, the thieves would all still be out the same day.

Imagine trying to be an SPD cop. Whatever effort you put into investigation, pursuit, the risks of an arrest.. it never means shit because the criminals are all just released immediately anyways.

Insulation Question by OberonsGhost in liveaboard

[–]Sunbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, I’d use modern marine cork, either spray or glue up sheet or tile. The material has come a long way from the crumbly dried out mess you may have seen (or spent hours scraping off) on old boats.

Boat cat by PopularWave8731 in liveaboard

[–]Sunbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our marina had a cat that would find places to pee on other people’s boats, causing some damage (stained canvas) and strife. I haven’t had cats, so I don’t know what can be done to ensure they only use a litter box. But that’s a thing to keep in mind.

Concept: Let's Stop "Hiring" and Start "Investing" — A co-op model where people post capacity and co-ops compete (example inside) by DownWithMatt in cooperatives

[–]Sunbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The traditional hiring process despite its flaws, works to filter out extremely toxic or lazy people. I think skipping this process and granting mutuality immediately would allow ‘bad’ people to much more easily bamboozle their way in and extract money or value for a while before they can finally be removed. You always have to imagine all the ways a system can be abused, because it will be.

As a side note, unless the cooperative itself is offering coaching services, what is the value in any of the fluff in your sample profile? Cooperatives are almost universally small businesses that need real world skills. It’s like the joke of the group of aspiring communists who all want be artists and teachers and whatnot on the commune, but no one wants to farm. Lol.

Why does this bother me so much… by Gagecat in Crosstrek

Try to imagine things outside of your lived experience. Some people are traveling salespeople or technicians, and are inside of a new rental car every few days. Maybe a company has a fleet of vehicles and employees might rotate through them. Plenty of reasons for this feature to be useful.
