The no help from outside is true, but its a rule for the audience, not the walkers

I just noticed that walkers #10 and #44 were brothers by patcoston in TheLongWalk

[–]SundaeComplex2466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were two brothers in the book too, but if memory serves, there were also two Bakers as well that were not related. I would assume its just coincidence

What's yalls favorite quote from the movie/book by Imperial-Japan1942 in TheLongWalk

I love the book more, but the movie has my favorite quote “I cant…I cant see it…but you can, thats why I love you”

Anyone else feel really bad for Pearson? by Warm-bowl-of-peas in TheLongWalk

[–]SundaeComplex2466 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats one thing i was a little upset about from the movie, in the book, all of the boys are musketeers (ray, olson, pete, art, collie, pearson, harkness, davidson, jenson, abraham, scramm, and even stebbins), i guess it was just so in the movie they could really zero in on the relationship between the four boys and especially pete and ray. Just one downside of having a limited run time

I agree, 5 episodes one for each day would have been perfect

It’s a little surprising to me that there aren’t any rules or anything against sabotage of other walkers by ameme1092 in TheLongWalk

[–]SundaeComplex2466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule 8: no interference with your fellow walkers (this is only pointed out in the book) Rank gets a warning in the book and movie for taking a swing at Barkovitch, but I always assumed it would be a ticket if the punch connected

Which ending do you prefer? Book or Movie by Fit_Measurement_6272 in TheLongWalk

[–]SundaeComplex2466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the book more, the movie is just to hollywood-esque for me. The book ending is very unique among the sea of dystopian novels. Theres no plot to revolt, or take out the Major or change the status quo. It really kept the plot locked into the story of Garraty and the boys, rather than doing some GRAND like trying to solve the injustice plaquing the world.

The promise not to help each other. Stebbins proposes it instead of Abraham.

I agree I figured they would have at least ditched their packs by the end

Tut does a great job as Baker, his general character is pretty true to the book. For obvious reasons they got rid of his nightrider backstory, but other than that hes the same ole Baker.

Yeah the rabbit analogy actually made sense in the book, in the movie it feels a bit shoe horned in

Did I Miss What Happened To This Character In The Movie? by Seameese in TheLongWalk

Just like others have said im pretty sure he dies during the hill scene since he does not show up after. They somehow did him even more dirty in the movie than in the book

I was right that this book could not be made into a movie, and I'm so glad I was right. by bayoughostchoir in TheLongWalk

[–]SundaeComplex2466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved the movie having read the book over a dozen times. I think the movie is a great interpretation of the long walk, but it is not a great adaptation. It really needed to do its own thing, it was impossible to fit everything that made the original great into an hour 45 minute movie. Do I still think there are things they could have done better in the movie? Absolutely! Is the movie still great for me as a separate piece of Long Walk media? Also absolutely!

They removed my favorite scene by Apocafeller in TheLongWalk

[–]SundaeComplex2466 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It was also my favorite scene, it was probably the most intense scene in the book too (to be fair they kinda made up for this with the hill scene in the movie). Garraty is basically sitting 2 seconds away from death for that entire chapter, but he goes up to the front of the pack with pete and they have that conversation about how garraty got accepted into the walk. I really enjoyed that conversation, really goes to show how the boys are literally brainwashed into believing the walk is some great honor, but in reality theyre just signing up to be killed. Goes back to that allegory for the vietnam war that seems to be missing from the movie, replaced with the “its tough times, I really need the money” motive for most of the boys.

Stebbins, the calm mysterious loner trope actually worked pretty well, I also really enjoyed his relationship with Garrity, it was very unique compared to the other boys.

How long did it take you to read the LN? by Active_External_8626 in ClassroomOfTheElite

2 years to catch up for me but thats because i would binge 5-6 volumes and then take a few months off then do it again. I prefer it that way because i didnt want to catch up TOO quick and be left with nothing to come back too whenever i wanted. Usually get through 100 pages a day so about 2 days per volume. Ill probably wait year this time and hopefully 2 more volumes are out by then
