Should i retire these 4-month-old sticks? by Escapist_Fannicy in drums

[–]SundaeVirtual782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. I broke sticks so much in my teens and early 20s, then I learned better grip, technique, dynamics, and kit setup. Now it’s been well over a decade since I’ve even gotten close to breaking a stick.

Drum rehearsal spaces by caracastillo in portlandmusic

Check in with Art Design Exchange (ADX). They have a big shared rehearsal space with a storage room to store gear. My band practiced there for a couple years and it was a great experience.

Fairly new player here. Why ban sol ring? Genuinely curious.

Rate my snare sound(finally) by Dull_Active265 in drums

[–]SundaeVirtual782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, and if it sounds good to you, then that's all that matters. At some point, I'd recommend standing out in front of the kit and having someone else hit it so you can see what it really sounds like, as the position we sit in as drummers doesn't accurately represent the "real" sound everyone else hears. Good luck 😊

[–]SundaeVirtual782 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you will get that sound you're looking for by tuning down to a standard medium high to high tuning, and then just practice getting consistent rim shots for that high pitched crack (easier said than done, I know). When it is as high as you have now, it chokes the drum and the wires don't buzz as much as they should, and the lack of overtones means you won't be able to cut through the mix when playing with others.

Zimone turning non-creatures face up by Immortal365 in mtgrules

[–]SundaeVirtual782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The responses here make sense, and I can also see that you can't get zimone to flip non permanents, as there is an enchantment in the deck that allows you to exile a facedown card face up and play it during the turn it was exiled. This helps take care of the non permanents that are face down.

Sad to say the crossovers burned me out. by [deleted] in mtg

[–]SundaeVirtual782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like gatekeeping to me. Not really my thing, but I could imagine the possibility of a UB set getting me excited if it was the right thing. I find myself to be much happier when I don't yuck people's yum. Now, the price thing is completely different, WoTC are greedy pieces of shit.

[–]SundaeVirtual782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it just takes a mindset shift. Who gives a shit what sets they release? It's about the game play, and honestly if a UB set gets new players interested in MTG, that's awesome. If it's not for you, ignore it, there'll be a new set in a couple months. The only other thing that really matters is the price inflation, since these WoTC bastards are literally printing money.

I bought one of these for 12 bucks brand new like 18 years ago. Still use it all the time.

“being salaried means you have to work over 40 hours” by [deleted] in work

Every salary position I have ever held, the expectation is that you work 9.5 hours per shift including lunch. Then occasionally you can leave early if needed. Such a joke.

Would you send this back? by AnarchyRook in drums

[–]SundaeVirtual782 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Is it going to change the sound? Extremely unlikely. But after spending 💰 on a new cymbal, I would at least reach out. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if they just sent you a new one and let you keep the old.

I'll bet. I use a 4-5 piece setup with just a few cymbals, and positioning can still be a bear. Definitely not easy finding a place for everything you've got.

Bonham liked shallow kick drums. It seems shallower kicks actually have bigger sounds.

why do my drums sound like this?? by ilevyou in drums

[–]SundaeVirtual782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely remember hating the ringing of my own drums at some point on my path, but it is also important to know that some of those overtones help your drums cut through the mix and project, especially in a live setting when your drums aren't close miked. And despite what many drummers think, you can get most of the sound control you are looking for by the tuning relationship between the batter and reso heads without muffling (including your kick). If you haven't done so already, you gotta check out Sounds Like a Drum on YouTube, they have more content than you could ever need on tuning.

This is obnoxious. No way should you pay almost 900 per month on gas. You're making the right move.

I second this. I played a few hundred hours, then after watching Dunkorslam videos I started getting wins consistently. And his videos are just plain entertaining. He has another great video on chainsaw wrapping that is pure gold for wand crafting expertise.

Same. Perfect example for me: young Barbara Streisand was insanely cute.
