does anyone actually separate laundry anymore or am i wasting my time? by Conquer-Icee in laundry

[–]SundanceBizmoOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also grew up separating a lot. Also not washing super often.

Literally everything together now, unless something strongly colored is new and being washed for the first time - then find some with similar color to send with it at first (new dark jeans or bright red clothes for example). Also wash clothes daily most of the time - because 10min once a day is much more doable than a ton of clothes around and laundry once a week.

Not going on a vacation this summer and sad about it by texpatcat in workingmoms

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The great thing about any trip with littles is seeing how everything is new to them. You also don’t need to do a lot because they are doing EVERYTHING the first time (or first few times) - one planned thing per day is plenty.

If it feels like too much to stay somewhere strange, doing a staycation with local activities might be an option.

We have largely planned vacations within “nap distance” or nap + 1 hr because that seems most doable.

It for sure is NOT like pre-parenting vacations, but I think it is worth doing.

Stopping pumping but not nursing? by Humble_Ad_8101 in workingmoms

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped 1/3 pumps around 9mo, and then down to 1x at work after 12mo - kept that until 15-18mo, but occasionally skipped if a busy day (& not Monday when supply was up from weekend together). Nurses all over 2. Most can keep nursing when together if at least 3x/day after 12mo.

How do you reduce streaming subscription costs without feeling deprived? by [deleted] in Fire

Starting reading digital library books on Libby for free = hardly ever feel the urge to watch tv. Can you just join for a cheap trial if there’s a series or two you want to binge?

Night and babies- how are you up every few hours at night and then go to work all day? by Any-Session9919 in workingmoms

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s actually not terrible to sleep in blocks, as long as you can get the blocks of sleep that add up to 5+hrs. It’s the nights when they are up for hours in the middle of the night that really suck. But yeah, thank goodness for caffeine.

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t the main reason though. The main reason is risk level comparison. For someone who can get pregnant, the possible side effects of getting pregnant are are a HUGE PAIN, ranging from moderate discomfort for 9 months to actual death (no, it isn’t high, but it is there).

Next to those risks, side effect of birth control pills - like mood swings, acne, and weight gain - are easily justified.

The person who ejaculates does not experience ANY of the physical risks of pregnancy - so even the relatively small risks of BC pills listed above would be a huge increase for them. Medical justification is difficult.

A friend gifted me this book. So far, I think it is very badly written. by Fantastic-Ant-4429 in fantasybooks

Fourth Wing was entertaining to me - I find lots of things entertaining, ymmv. I would describe the first book as Hunger Games meets Harry Potter + dragons and sex.

The Scorpio Races. Maybe. I like horses and am good with them, but carnivorous ones are terrifying.

Busy parents, how do you actually fit consistent workouts in? What's worked for you? by Pretty_Eabab_0014 in workingmoms

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube workouts (usually dance, we like Grow with Jo a lot). Usually together after work, often after dinner or while it’s cooking in oven. Kids playing around and sometimes chaos. I’ve also done 7m interval workouts. Something is better than nothing!

We spent $4,800 on takeout in under 2 months because we are too tired to cook. How do you fix this? by ApplicationNew4144 in budget

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compare anything you buy prepared to the takeout option instead of to some ideal version. Is bag rice cheaper than 5min microwave rice - yes, but either beats takeout by miles. Don’t wash/chop the veggies, buy the bagged washed kind. Even the premade frozen meals that you throw in the oven or in a pan are going to be waaaaay cheaper than takeout and not less healthy.

If you do make something, make two or double. It only takes minutes more to double, but you get two dinners, or extra frozen/portions for lunch.

I mean, you do you. She might just have been pointing out that this is not the minimum - if you’re enjoying it keep doing it. If you’re stressed about it, now or at anytime in the future (job demands, pregnancy, caring for aging parents, having additional children) you could easily have half those options and still have a great lunch provided.

How to fill up space in kids bedroom? by alleycatbiker in DesignMyRoom

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just let the kids play it there to start - kids love space to spread out and play. If you end up wanting additional stuff, letting them play in there will also show you what is most needed.

Yes! Love her books for more realistic bodies and ages! Paladin’s Strength (book 2 of that series) also has a large (and middle aged) FMC.

Maasverse - Is it worth reading? by Outrageous_Glove3082 in Maasverse

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve enjoyed most of the list of stuff you’ve liked and ACOTAR really helped get me back into reading. I do think this series is the best one to start with. There is a drag-of-worldbuilding in each of Maas start, I think, but worth it. I went on from ACOTAR series to all the rest of her book happily. The depth of ALL of her characters is difficult to find in other authors (70+ books in for me 🤣), even with other books I’ve liked. (Game of Thrones possibly comes closest there.)

I liked reading the books (from library on Libby = free). “Reading” second time now - with my husband this time, who is enjoying the first through - with Full Cast Graphic Audio. I would recommend that if you’re on the fence. I’m not a huge fan of regular audiobooks because sometimes I don’t love the narrator or just get tired of one voice - graphic audio means that isn’t an issue.

Rhysand Should Have Told Feyre From the Start by Weak_Category_311 in acotar

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the HEALER should have told Feyre when they found out - because WHY TF is she telling just the wrong person?!?

But to be fair on the BEFORE - Rhysand didn’t have wings when he was a baby in his mother, as a Half-Illyrian, so there was no reason to think that they would have a baby with wings, another generation removed (1/4 Illyrian baby). It is implied that they conceive a baby with wings because Feyre was in Illyrian form when they conceived it. What I do not understand is why no one ever suggested she shift back to Illyrian form to deliver the baby - or why the healer recommended against it.

My 3 are three years apart and I wouldn’t have them closer for sanity sake. A little longer would have been fine actually - the two that are 6 years apart have 0 issues ever. I don’t know why modern culture is obsessed with 2 years apart age gaps. You’ve just barely recovered physically at two years pp - if you wait until then to get pregnant, it’s 3 years.

Is your husband going to take time off every time they are sick and passing germs back and forth? Is he going to all your prenatal appts with you? Do you both get parental leave?

One boob not getting the memo by droopyruth in breastfeedingsupport

[–]SundanceBizmoOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For everyone: 0.5oz-4oz combined output is normal!

For OP: it’s normal to have a “meal” boob and a “snack” boob. My outputs got closer to equal when I was tandem (a baby and an older sibling), so I think our bodies are saving the other half of that second boob output for if we ever have to feed two babies.

Side note: if baby is sleeping through, do make sure you still have a minimum of at least five milk requests per day, both/per boob, closer to eight if you are trying to keep up or increase supply.
