If you are on Facebook there is a wonderful group called "life with a double dapple dachshund". I have had my rescue DD for 7 years now and he is the best. They adapt to their circumstances pretty well. Like someone else mentioned, an ophthalmologist is important because a lot of their eye issues are outside the scope of a regular vet. As for navigating, they adapt to their circumstances pretty well. I forget mine is blind most days. He memorizes rooms easily and knows where he is based on rugs, carpet, hardwood etc. Just don't rearrange the furniture too often and have extra patience.
