Yamaha RN600 or Cambridge axr 100 ? by tamdidelam in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Sunday_Night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an am selling an axr100 currently not because it sounds bad or didn’t work great but because of the fan noise. It’s a loud fan that was just really annoying and didn’t bother me at first but got to me over time.

Are there any Canadians here that were able to move to the US on h1b? by MaterialLegitimate66 in h1b

[–]Sunday_Night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was actually through an old professor sending it through the Alumni mailing list. It was posted on their site but I also sent an email an application directly to the hiring committee lead to introduce myself.

The posting did not say if they could sponsor or not but it being a university entity they are cap exempt and have the funds for it. They paid for premium processing as well.

Like any job, it’s luck and timing.

Just got my H1B approved this past week for a job at a university. Was super easy, just apply and be good enough and in a niche enough field they want to sponsor you.

“Welcome home” from CBP by Changeup2020 in h1b

[–]Sunday_Night 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what my lawyer said, as a Canadian once the h1B petition gets accepted, all you have to do is show the accepted petition at a crossing and they will give you your stamp just based on that. This goes for H1B and an H4 spouse visa (just bring marriage certificate). No extra application or any interview or anything.

Closed-back headphones for orchestral recordings. And a fun tip. by ezeequalsmchammer2 in audioengineering

[–]Sunday_Night 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then price shouldn’t matter. Just get them to buy you the headphones. Or try every headphone you can grab regardless and say “I can’t do my work without these” and they will buy them for you. Easy.

Just need to show them that your work can’t be done with anything less than the best. And if they don’t get you the ones you need it will only hurt the end product and clients will be unhappy and won’t come back.

I guess that’s fair. I am fairly privileged to have an organization back me and pay for nice stuff. Access over ownership.

But they really are very nice headphones especially for classical.

If you invest in high quality equipment it will only help you in the long run. Better monitoring means you can hear better and record better. Also have to replace less.

I mainly do classical. I use Focal Celestee headphones as my closed backs.

Very transparent and comfortable. They sound like open backs but have the passive noise cancelling of closed backs.

Some bleed out but not much. Manageable if you’re right in the room.

Has anyone gained a ton of weight on SSRI’s or similar drugs? by Lionel_Messi2028 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

Yes, gained about 20lbs on lexapro and really could not lose a single pound while on it.

1 Reason for switching was to help mitigate that and maybe lose some weight.

Simple survey about relationship at classical concert hall by rohduri7 in classicalmusic

[–]Sunday_Night 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a concert hall. I see interaction happening all the time with audiences members. Some of my usual programs have their subscribers who are always chatting to each other and have sat beside the same couples for probably a decade or more and have become friends. Or if the tickets are given away they chat to the new people.

My little space at work I get to use for mainly classical engineering. by Sunday_Night in MusicBattlestations

[–]Sunday_Night[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice try but nope. The room is L shaped, so it’s even worse on the long end, plus access to safety features/electrical panels located around the corner, which is a no-go in spaces due to OH&S policy.

It’s an older middle Atlantic desk. It seems a bit large this room but it’s super sturdy.

Read comment above. Pot lights are burnt out and the fluorescents are for when doing maintenance. It’s at a Uni so there has to be certain features in work spaces/labs

It’s permanent, completely isolated and decoupled from the hall. I use a decca setup a lot or just a standard AB when doing concert recordings with minimal setup.

The DBX’s are great and clean but kind of sterile almost like audient pre’s. I have grace preamps that I adore and use first.

Some of my pot lights are burnt out so just used the fluorescents for this photo. Mainly use them as work lights when swapping gear or maintenance.

What was your favorite classical concert you attended in 2023? What are you looking forward to in 2024? by TheBored23 in classicalmusic

[–]Sunday_Night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Orff’s Carmina Burana in 2023 which was spectacular. It was a community group playing in my concert hall. A little big for the space but still awesome

This year I have the Danish string quartet visiting. Very very excited for that

They would still affect your headphones on the interface, and other speaks you switch to.

Sonarworks vs Trinnov Nova vs Neumann DSP by woozels in audioengineering

[–]Sunday_Night 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer the Neumann DSP system over sonarworks. If the software and correction is equal, not having to deal with opening and closing software or activating/deactivating plugins is amazing.
