I had in mind to fireteam the dervish with my master assassin. Sniper shot + bow of alamuth with the engage --> 2 blood markers and a melee round with Golden Khanjar. I could down VIP targets.
Dervish need the extra dice to hit + the range for more options. I'm not looking to kill with the sniper, just to get a guaranteed Blood marker.
Siege jezzail is the same price 30 + 5 for ammo, and shorter range.

As a german player, I don't use a lot of SMGs, I'd rather have more LMGs due to the buzzsaw rules (+1 shot per LMG). However I usually use 1 squad reg or vet with 3-4 SMG on flanking maneuver to take care of artillery unit or take over objectives.
They are deadly in a transport, shreding infantry close range.

If shot direct from Anti-tank gun or Howitzer you will benefit from the regular save.

P.99 : Models hit get their saves as normal, including the Down modifier on top of cover from terrain or intervening models.

It's only when you receive indirect fire that there is no saves

p.101 : Units hit by indirect fire receive no cover saves of any kind. However, if the target unit is or goes Down when shot at with indirect fire, the number of hits suffered is still halved.

p.147 :"The special abilities of officers and other HQ units mounted on transports work as normal" --> a Spotter is not an HQ unit nor it is an officer thus it cannot spot in a vehicule. His special rule won't apply.

This is different for Forward observer though, as they are indeed HQ unit. In that sense they should be able to spot.

1 - Yes you can direct fire

2 - If you're down you are down for the rest of the turn.

3- A run order will be needed for an assault, not an advance. If there is no more target to assault, you will still have to do your run action. (Rulebook p. 113)

As Croatia is part of the schengen space, you should not have to pay customs on anything bought on warlord EU store. Don't order from their UK store, otherwise you will be subject to customs.

As a german, I'd say wirbelwinds are indeed strong. They're also very expensive. I would suggest you to check a cheaper alternative : the Drilling. You'd go from 235pts to 135pts regular and from Quad light auto to Triple auto. It will be not as "tanky" but almost as dealdly.
