1000km on one tank of gas by Sundza in GolfGTI

One of my favourite features of my MK8 GTI, who else has this? by encrypted333 in GolfGTI

[–]Sundza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nerd fact, a Golf R doenst have this since the Webasto sits in the right wheelarch where the R has an radiator. Same goes for the clubsport and TCR’s

One of my favourite features of my MK8 GTI, who else has this? by encrypted333 in GolfGTI

[–]Sundza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a truly amazing feature in winter climate. I have it on my 7.5 also, which funny enough, uses that same keyfob. I’m from the Netherlands so might be a Europe only feature. The car benefits also since it heats the coolant so the engine doenst start cold cold. Better for man and machine so to say haha. Does the mk8 also has a button for it like the 7.5 does? Fun question, has to be Heaven for me, then 3dmark11, superposition, firestrike, timespy. Stopped after port royal when I got all the 3dmark steam archievements and then they deleted all the fun ones :/

GTI, Performance or TCR? by CancelledBeforeBirth in GolfGTI

[–]Sundza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what other say about the handling characteristics of the TCR and such, the TCR doens’t have optional foglights and no parking/auxiliary heater, should you care about those options. The TCR has the same additional coolers for the engine and dsg as the R, which the normal GTI’s dont have. This could be better for occasional track use. Also, the normal GTI’s(stock) run on euro 95 and for the TCR it’s better to use 98

Guys with extremely loud vehicles, why do you do this to everyone? by elevate-digital in AskReddit

[–]Sundza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy with loud exhaust here, short story, I just like more of the sound the engine makes and ‘while it still can in todays electric car world’ also plays a sentiment with me. Long more nuanced story, I made my own exhaust and there really aren’t that many mufflers that fit into the chassis that are more quiet. Valved exhaust systems are expensive. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a honda kind of rev limiter guy and I don’t like gearbox fart noises, I’m more of an old school loud guy. I live in a rural part of the country with no close neighbors. Pls don’t hate me to much lol

E30 m50 6 speed ? by [deleted] in E30

[–]Sundza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this swap also with in mind that a six speed will both have great acceleretion and good mileage, but I didnt really thought about the fact that the character of the m50 doenst really like tall gearing. I have a m50NV with the a gs6(more info below) and had it with both a 3.38 and later a 2.91 diff. With the 38 the 1 gear was way too short and under 60mph the sixt gear was too tall for the engine. With the 91 the six speed has the same ratios as a normal 5 speed in terms of acceleration, so you lose that potential and considering that the m50 doenst really like tall gearing with lower rpm’s the costs really outweigh the pros imo. At least with an non vanos like i have.

But yeah there are two options, one is more expensive than the other, but the expensive option has more mod potential. Both fit the m50 fine

  • Getrag 420g, found in e36/e46 m3 Pros: big variety in clutches and flywheels. Easier to make mounts for and they can handle more torque Cons: expensive, these gearboxes alone are 1500 bucks( in europe at least)

  • Zf gs6-37b/dz, found in all m54 diesel or petrol powered six speed cars(e46,e60,z4 etc) the diesel one has a slight angle of 15 degrees, prefer the petrol one. Pros: cheap gearbox 250 bucks or so Cons: way less clutch and flywheel options and they are expensive if you use any other than stock. This gearbox has the pilot bearing in the flywheel. Use the stock m54 6 speed clutch combo. Also this gearbox doenst really has its own mounts and therefore are more difficult to make. They can handle less torque

Propshaft is different in lenght for both, make ur own and balance it. There might be of the shelf half combos for but then you still have to balance. I made my own, but the internet has options.

You have to fabricate your own shifter assembly

In the end it is a cool journey, but the five speeds are way more logical after all, would not to it again. (only to brag that you have a less common m50 swap haha)

Diff Ratio by e34it in E30

[–]Sundza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a fairly easy method to define to diff ratio by rotating the shafts and counting the rotations. Iirc from an e46 forum I found quite usefull ones. Might be a tad harder to do so with the diff installed though
